At this moment in time no idea as to the credibility of the story but today I am reading that we are showing an interest in Kyle Walker
The guy is English, has a wealth of experience at club level and obviously on the international stage as well. He has also featured to a degree in Europe although Spurs never quite made it. But his attacking and crossing ability certainly makes him a candidate who could take on the WB role at Chelsea
I do have concerns over his defensive capabilities and feel he uses his pace/speed to get him out of problems but at Chelsea he would have that extra cover behind him anyway so maybe not so much of an issue…?
As most will know, I have reservations over Moses but feel that Walker could be a good purchase providing cover and decent completion for that spot
Thoughts…? KTBFFH
May 17, 2017 at 1:49 pm #1481796Few wing backs are great defenders their main strength is going forwards Walker imo is probably the best Right Wing Back in Europe especially in forward mode and again imo would fall under the category of players that could improve the team/squad and there is the added bonus of him being English.
But if the rumours are true there will be more than Chelsea interested in him and he’s a Northern boy so if the rumours of City too being interested he might prefer that move?
Also it doesn’t mean that we would be discarding Moses there will potentially be 60 odd games to play next season so plenty of opportunities for Moses.
May 17, 2017 at 2:03 pm #1481814I think Walker would be a decent buy not the greatest around though-pity about all those
ugly tattoosMay 17, 2017 at 2:32 pm #1481835Buy for me, if his price is below 40m
May 17, 2017 at 3:05 pm #1481859Please no! Whilst physically he is impressive and he is talented, I just don’t think he is too bright, which is why he gets caught out of position defensively. It worries me that someone who could cost us a LOT of money is so reliant on his physicality, and if he gets a nasty injury and loses some of that, he is not bright enough to adapt his game and we have an expensive dud on our hands. I really would have thought Conte would be more interested in players who read the game better than Walker does, but if he says sign him, then I guess I have to accept he has done his homework, and I have got it wrong.
May 17, 2017 at 3:26 pm #1481875It’s a no brainer if you ask me. I rate him as one of the best right backs in the league if not in Europe. He is fast as lightning, offers a lot going forward, and he is English and knows the PL. With him, Moses, Alonso, Azpiliqueta, and Ake, I would say we are well covered on the wingback department.
Hey 999 can’t tell how jealous I am of your 7 Chelsea FA Cup Finals on Wembley ? and your many years as a season ticket holder ?
May 17, 2017 at 3:28 pm #1481877If we are talking about replacing Moses with Kyle Walker then I disagree.
Kyle Walker was terrible for years until the season before this one so I say give Moses another season because I think Moses will be a better player than him in the RWB position given another season. Kyle Walkers testosterone levels are too high and this affects his ability to make clear decisions.
May 17, 2017 at 4:07 pm #1481901@liquidator – Funny thing is that I thought exactly the same of him a couple of seasons ago, but I think he has matured immensely since regarding positioning and reading the game, and now, I think, he is one of the best right wingbacks in Europe. I hate to admit it, but I would prefer him any day over Moses, sorry to say ?
May 17, 2017 at 4:40 pm #1481916MKM – My opinion is he masks his poor positioning with his lightening fast pace, but what if he were to lose the latter? I’m very happy with what Moses has done, and I just think we need some back up for him, that’s if we don’t already have it in Aina. Still, its all about opinions isnt it?
May 17, 2017 at 4:49 pm #1481926bort – my feeling is that if Chelsea did buy him then it would be as the replacement for Moses. However, and I think I alluded to this previously, there should be more than enough games to go around and the pair of them could feed off each other which is a problem that Conte should relish to have
Have to say given the choice I would rate Walker above Moses but if Moses could find his attacking edge again, which is my main criticism of him, then it would be a much closer call. KTBFFH
May 17, 2017 at 4:55 pm #1481930There is no way we are getting Kyle Walker.
City will offer £40m so we would have to offer £60m for Levy to sell to a fierce london rival.
May 17, 2017 at 5:08 pm #1481935I see what you mean Liq! Nice observation and maybe you’re right. As I said, a couple of seasons ago I would have agreed with you. But hey it is nice with different opinions, it normally fuels a good discussion ?
May 17, 2017 at 5:17 pm #1481941Oops totally forgot all about Ola Aina! It would be really nice If he could be nurtured into something decent, which I’m sure Conte is able at – if his talent is sufficient. He hasn’t quite convinced me the few times I’ve seen him play. How did he perform against Watford?
May 17, 2017 at 5:38 pm #1481952Not sure who is better between Moses and Walker, but we desperately need another wing back. In preference left sided though as Azpi can cover on the right side if needed.
Walker is a good player, we need competition in wing back position. This season Moses and Alonso have no competition. We need a larger squald next season if we want to compete in all fronts. Walker will certainly be a welcoem additionMay 17, 2017 at 6:39 pm #1481967What attacking edge does Walker have over Moses?
Walker: 4 goals in 222 games (all comps) for Tottenham.
Moses: 4 goals in 34 games (all comps) in this season alone.Walker has 5 assists Moses has 2 this season.
I really don’t understand where we are making out that Walker is better!?
In fact on Whoscored.com Moses average rating is 7.21 in all comps and Walker 7.18.
Anyway the chances of Tottenham selling to Chelsea is 0% I don’t remember them once ever selling to us in the premier league era. Also Walker is infected with a massive case of spurs.
May 18, 2017 at 9:42 am #1482233MKM – Aina was only on for about 10 minutes and didn’t have a lot to do, but he looked comfortable, and again like both Moses and Walker, he has strength and pace. Whether Conte believes he has what it takes to provide cover next season remains to be seen, but personally, I like what I see. On a different subject, despite his involvement in Watford’s first goal, I though Chalobah did well on Monday.
May 18, 2017 at 10:42 am #1482288Aina did perform well in some of the preseason games, and you’re right, he’s fast, strong, good technique, and offers a lot going forward. Besides I remember now, how Arsenal/Woyeur were circling around him as vultures before he finally decided to extend his contract with us last year, so he must be viewed as having a great potential. If someone can make him fullfil such a potential, it’s signor Antonio!
Didn’t watch the game, cause I’m on holiday im Thailand, but Chalobah has been a very positive experience this season, if you ask me. There has been plenty times, where I thought to myself that he should have had more gametime, but hey, you don’t criticise a manager’s decisions when he keep winning games and in the end makes your team champions ? but he has a lot of skills, his distribution and overview (not sure if it’s the right word I’m using) on the field is as good as Matic if you ask me, plus he is more athletic and dangerous in front of goal.
Btw 999 mentioned that you’re still a seasonticket holder. How does it work btw? Is it “only” for league matches or also Cup games? Just the thought of being able to watch every home game in the league makes me dizzy! ?
I have a friend who is 15 years older than I am. He lived in London for 5 years in the late ’80s/early ’90s. He told me the first thing he did when he arrived in London was to buy season tickets to Highbury – he’s a Gooner unfortunately, but he’s a very cool chap! Anyway he said those five years with season tickets were nothing less than superb! ?
May 18, 2017 at 12:25 pm #1482376To take this debate a step further if the papers are to be believed then at least 3 Spurs players want to leave
Leaving aside the merits or not of the individuals I would also point out that IMO, the attitude of the Spurs players over the course of the last 2 seasons has been good and strong (predominantly) and not that far away from what we currently have in the dressing room
As I have stated before, when you buy a player these days it is much more than just their footballing ability but what they can bring to the Club as a whole. While it pains me greatly to admit it, I would say that if any Spurs player could be seen to improve the Club on the footballing side then they are very akin in terms of temprement and attitude to Chelsea and could be considered an asset….? May 18, 2017 at 2:37 pm #1482514MKM – As a Season Ticket holder you only get the PL games, but you get an opportunity to buy your own seat for home cup games before they go on wider sale, and you get preference to a degree, based on loyalty points (of which you get a load just for having the ST), for cup final tickets etc. Had mine for about 18 seasons now (I think), and yes its great turning up to the Bridge, watching the best club in the world (for me!) and building relationships with the other Chelsea supporters that sit around you. I would recommend it to anyone who has the opportunity to get one!
May 18, 2017 at 2:40 pm #1482516CFC1905 – Quite a number of Sp*rs players signed new contracts this season, which is good business for them, but I understand Walker and Toby Whatsisname want to go elsewhere for the bigger money they can inevitably now demand. Hopefully its the thin end of the wedge, and more will join them, and Sp*rs will have just missed the best opportunity they will ever have (apart from last season) of ever winning the PL!
