Two aspects of Leicester’s season have contributed hugely to their success. First, the benefits of a settled team with few injuries and secondly team spirit and fitness. At the start of the season this was a team with no obvious stars and certainly no prima donnas. Having escaped almost certain relegation with a huge managerial contribution from Nigel Pearson, they carried over a freedom and confidence which has carried them through the year. Claudio Ranieri has been a revelation as has the form of Danny Simpson and Danny Drinkwater who both left Old Trafford when progression was blocked by ‘better’ players. I was wrong to label them rejects.
Leicester have proved this season that you can win things without spending millions and I hope they do not slip up at the final hurdle.
