A bit silly to use this game as an indicator of how next season will pan out.

Half the players were missing, and out of those that did play a lot of them I’m sure will be knackered from training, and taking it easy a bit. It’s not like they’ve prepared with the goal of winning this game, the goal at the moment is to get fit and be ready for Arsenal and the season ahead.

j c, in fact Origi, Benteke and Wijnaldum did not travel to LA was because they are not yet fit to to the stndard required by Kornmayer, while Clyne and Sturridge have minor niggles.

For example, Real got beaten 3-1 by PSG yesterday, and a loss in pre-season does not mean much really, the main thing is you learn from it and do well when the season starts.

As much as I would like us to win our remaining 4 pre-season games, what matters most is that we beat Aresnal in our first game

Ill take a 0-1 defeat in the rest of our pre-season games if we start the season with 3 points against Arsenal.

For Me i think Klopp was using this fixture purely for fitness, concentration and more importantly to see how Conte is going to set up.

first of all let’s not put this fixture out of Context this was a pre- season friendly in which the following needs to be considered:

    1. Klopp Flogged the players in a fitness session before the match – the reason for this is conditioning concentration levels (this is unique from the fitness team we poached from Bayern and something Pep will be doing during preseason).

    2. This was a pretty strong Chelsea side against the strongest side Klopp was able to put out.

That aside there are many positives to take from this.

    1. Mane – his close control and movement often beat the likes of Cahill, Azpiluqueta and Terry with ease and to be frank was let down Firmino’s horrendous link up play and lack of fitness (he needs a rocket up his arse for putting on that ridiculous weight).

    2. apart from the goal we did defend pretty solidly, the reality is we were missing 3 (possibly 4 Sakho lol) or our entire starting back 4 (lovren and Kalvan did ok to be honest) which should see improvements right away. Hector or a defensive left back will definitely be signed as moreno is a liability.

    3. we Lost Grujic quite early and had him replaced with Lallana, i think he and Can will be a Power house in Midfield.

    4. Wynaldum, Sturridge, Origi, Can have yet to feature yet and Henderson, Clyne Milner and Lallana have just returned.

    5. Ejaria will put competition on the likes of Coutiniho and Firmino in the 10 Position as he is more pacey and athletic.

Northernbahrain , the Chelsea side that started v Liverpool wasn’t that strong and will bear little resemblance to the Chelsea side that will start v West Ham but that’s pre season for everyone.

In all fairness, we can’t use this game as some form of a barometer in how our season will pan out, however I was disappointed that we lost to Chelsea and the manner that goal went in, so that’s essentially the disappointment I’m expressing and reiterating.

But the other point I was trying to stress is that I would want to go through this sort of thing of letting in soft goals, losing matches and the team being inconsistent week in week out.

That said, we’ve seen evidently so far new faces brought in and some of the more estabished names that we’ve been longing to see the back of, gone.

Effectively, Jurgen Klopp is trying to recreate a new back 4, but Moreno is a seriously liability who is not a full-back and that is a problematic area that must be addressed sooner than later.

Tried to watch the game earlier,on Sly (intentional) Sports. They had Man City vs Dortmund,PSG vs Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich vs AC Milan on,but not Liverpool vs Chelsea. Why is that? It’s disgraceful

You got a box mate? If not, probably worth getting hold of one of them; I’m not sure myself, but those highlights could be on the Lfc channel. Not sure if Youtube have posted anything, but worth a quick look.

Nil,yeah I’ll have a look online. I just can’t fathom why Sky would show every other game apart from ours. I believe Sky are showing the Liverpool vs AC game at the weekend though. Problem is,it kicks off around 3:30 am lol. I’ll try and have a kip in the day time ?

S/t I’d sort you out with one mate if you were nearer to my neck of woods, but yeah, you should be able to pick one up online with the android features/apps.

Yeah, I think we’ve got the Barca game nearer to the season on tv 🙂

Say no to Sky – we don’t want to line their pockets lol 😀

I like Clyne…If we could get a clone of him on the left side then Id be happy. I know its all the rage to have marauding full backs but for me I think it’s better to have one that can actually defend as well. Whenever Clyne is in the team I feel safer, hes not particularly spectacular in the attacking sense but he does his defensive duties well and is reasonably intelligent when we need to break.

As for Moreno, we obviously got to keep him now we sold Brad smith but Id be surprised if we don’t sign another left back as cover.

As SensibleS7 says; if you are a football/sports fan you need to have an android/firestick etc with Sportsmania on it ideally. Any and every sport is on there…And even if you want to watch Sky Sports, it’s on there…

Unlike some on here, I don’t agree that these games are just for fitness. Games v Fleetwood etc, maybe. But when you play a main rival you don’t want to lose, simple as that. And if you don’t think Chelsea would have gained confidence from that win, you’re deluding yourself. When Chelsea lost to Rapid Vienna recently, Conte was angry, saying he hates losing. That is the mentality of a winner! He didn’t say ‘oh well, at least they got minutes under their belts’. The aim is to win – always! And I would have been disappointed had Klopp come out with that crap.

My frustration is that we have the same problems of the last 2 seasons. Firstly, not creating chances and secondly conceding soft goals from set-pieces…

We need pace and penetration up front, so hoping that Gini, Ojo, Studge and Mane will provide that. What we lack is a great passer and goal creator a la Gerrard. No one in midfield has an eye for a pass and/or the ability to execute it. So good movement (which we don’t have anyway) will go unrewarded…Peace

Hope Grujic is ok? Apparently he couldn’t remember how it happened, possible concussion? Probably not the wisest choice playing Chelsea in a preseason game, there is always some sort of needle with these two teams…

Agree Davinci. Poor goal conceded, and the only ‘shot’ we had on target (other than Firmino’s offside goal) was Coutinho’s cross/shot from the free kick. I know we had a lot of players missing (anyone know why Wijnaldum wasn’t involved at all?) but 1 shot on target in 90 minutes is poor. Chelsea were strong defensively, and we couldn’t break them down

So Grujic can’t remember anything about the game. Funnily enough, neither can I!

JC, I’m not simply using pre season games as an indicator of how the season will pan out, I’m saying I think we will still have the same problems as last season, that being set pieces, losing the midfield battle & cutting edge in the final 3rd. Yes this game did show some of those weaknesses but I’m mainly going off the quality of players we have in comparison to our rivals. I think we are behind at least 4, maybe 5 clubs in regards to quality of players. Some are saying “we have Klopp” & think he will solve our problems but manu have Moanino, c$ty have Pep etc etc. I just think we will struggle to break down the likes of chelsk$ who sit nehind the ball a lot & we will lose the midfield battle against the more physical teams. We have improved & look a lot more balanced but so have our rivals.
I hope I’m wrong but I can see us getting behind early & struggling to play catch up as we get a bit more cohesion.

The bugbear is that everytime we reach a point where we think we’re onto a good thing even against the lesser teams, we then get stung and come up short when it’s a big gun.

How do we overcome this? If we keep hold of Markovic, I believe considering our stature at the moment and limitations as to no offering of CL, football, two-thirds of our playing positions is good enough to gun down any top team, but it’s again, that subject called defense that needs tightening.
