IFF (if and only if) we win the final would that mean only the top 3 from PL get in the CL?
would be great -esp. if Utd somehow gain 4th.

My MOM tonight was Can esp as he returned from injury 3 weeks early and lasted all game.
I would definitely make Lovren skipper next season although Milner was good tonight.
Mignolet made vital save, Clyne was so far forward it was untrue, Toure was a colossus
Firmino a close 2nd for MoM but all did great even though Moreno was way out of position at one point and nearly cost us!

Thanks to Sean the Sailor for keeping hs grounded – keep doing what u r doing – lol !!! ???

Get in Redmen. Win the final & we qualify for the champions league. So who used to say it’s not a competition of value? Winning it is worth more than finishing fourth in the premiership. Seville will be difficult opposition as they are holders & going for their third in a row. I’m hoping the painful memory of the Carling Cup defeat will help us in what will be a very tight final. Come on the Redmen YNWA 🙂

If a country is normally allocated four champions league places(UK) the Europa cup winners make it five. The interesting bit seems that if this years Champions league winners (either of the Madrid teams) qualify for next years competition by league position as well as returning champs, the Europa cup winners go straight into the group stages.I may have misunderstood that but I hope not.Anyway lets win it first and enjoy the fact that we would not have to enter the qualifying rounds.

The permutations are listed in my post (2nd one down) in the following thread…we should go straight into the group stage if we win…regardless of what happens elsewhere.

Thanks again Mikus – we just need to concentrate on LFC and we’ll be happy without worry about others.

Just watched the highlights – really important to note that Firmino assisted / created all 3 goals tonight. Turning out to be a great signing since Klopp got hold of him!

I thought Liverpool were excellent last night and are now just a couple of players away from being genuine title contenders next season and what a job Klopp has done with the same set of players.

I thought Villarreal though were really poor last night, I think Anfield might have got to them but you can only beat what’s in front of you and there was no doubt who the winner was going to be right from the very first minute. Even I was worn out with the energy levels the Liverpool players displayed.

Congrats all now go and win it and I’m sure you will which will give the PL 5 entries into next season’s CL.

Mwake I get the point you are trying to make, however so what if Sturridge doesn’t press or win tackles as much as Origi, Origi isn’t as clinical as Sturridge and to be fair great potential he has, isn’t yet a consistent goal scorer. Every player has their pros and cons and Sturridge is no different but we need him in the team as he creates, scores and links up play more seamlessly than Origi and you can see that he is on the same page as the likes of Coutinho, Firmino and Lallana.

Cheers Mwake, hope your still buzzing ?

Mwake, Sturridge is a different type of striker to Origi and Ings, who run and press much more. But he is much better than both of them because he is far more clinical, a great dribbler, a consistent goalscorer (when fit) and capable of delivering magical moments.

And Liverpool need more than one type of striker to thrive going forward, so they will all complement each other

sevilla is a tough game but they can be got at. We have a massive chance to win it. A one off game.

sodge i wasnt at the game mate , was just at home but you could feel the atmosphere off the tv. Its was unreal. Thats what support is. Support for the team coming in on the coach etc. Anfield is a special place on european nights an dno doubt the crowd got to villareal players

npow we can enjoy our last three games of the season and just wait for the final. Keep our key players injury fit and go to basle in good shap=e

mwake, look at sturridges record. Look at his form this season. Does it matter that he doesnt press as much as the others? Would origi or ings have had as many chances as sturridge tonight? He creates alot him self. Hes our best striker and last night proved it yet again.12 goals in 21 games. i wonder how many of thoese he has started.

the one real worry for us is Moreno. What does he be playing at? He could have easily have given away a pen. Not a time for slating playes but we do need a new left full in the summer

I’ve got the feeling the conjecture on here last week re Sturridge was answered in that game last night.

He just wants to clearly play in the big occassions, but it seems was held back by JK and thus a disagreement between the two parties – a minor one mind.

Wonderful game , fantastic result, This was the complete team performance with no really stand out player, everyone stood up to be counted. If I had to pick anyone for MOM it would be between, Lallana, Milner or Can. I thought Coutinho was off the pace so hopefully he will be the Coutinho we know he can be, in the final.

Let’s not get carried away with how we are doing in Europe, we still have too many average players to make the upward step to challenge for the PL.

I am so disappointed , I will be in Civitaveccia on the 18th, will I miss the match??, I will now have to try to find a place there to watch it, my wife & friends are not interested in football, but they will have to sod off I’m hopefully going to find a place to watch it.

    Spodge.

“Does any one still not get Firmino”…. I will answer this one…. One hot day does not make a summer comes to mind. I am still not convinced, last night he played well & I give him credit, but it is no use playing 1 good game in 6. At the moment he is over-rated & I have said it before hopefully he will be one of those players who doesn’t set the game alight in their 1st season only do shine the next, we saw last night some amazing tricks but this has to become more consistent.

Sevilla will not play defensive containment and counter attack football. They do not have the strong defence that Villareal supposedly had. It will be a more open game and they will have to run themselves into the ground to deal with our high press, if we play like we did last night. Our main concerns are Coke and Gameiro, Skrtel playing, no Sturridge up front and a howler from Mignolet. If we keep those 2 quiet, Skrtel off and Sturridge on the pitch, Mignolet has a solid game, it will be a great night. Ifs and buts butter no parsnips … Btw Michael Owen made me laugh “I know St Jakob is only 30000 seats but I can guarantee there will be more than 9000 Liverpool fans in Basel on the night”

Firmino produced a brilliant skill yesterday and one of which I rarely see in football. He’s definitely gifted with tricks, but for me, he needs to improve on his body strength, his awareness to use other players well, and ability to hold the ball and retain possession.

i agree with liverlad, we need to see this much mnore from firminio. He has shwon it in fits and bursts. His stats are very good. He was excellent in some games but last night he was brilliant. He needs to continue like this

One poster who has been conspicuous in his absence over the last 12 hours is Davinci.

Does he actually enjoy these occasions? Isn’t this what a football fan is all about. A good convincing win in a major European competition, and Davinci disappears. Is he unable to enjoy success?

Hightown, I’m just so glad we’re in the final; still hasn’t sunk in, but we have one major hurdle to get over and I’d love for us to win a trophy because we’ve not won one for 4 years which is a long time, and in my view should be doing better.

    Cheers
