Tamblingforever Liverpool or Chelsea? Liverpool of course. He knows Klopp has gone there not long ago,we’re above Chelsea in the table,Chelsea currently have an interim manager. He’s already told them he’d like to sign for Liverpool. Hopefully we pay the fee they want
January 25, 2016 at 10:07 pm #819332Liverpool bid the way I do on eBay…and it sucks when you lose out to a valuation that was close to what was being offered. Still, whilst it’s disappointing to lose out on something by a few million in LFC’s case (or pennies in mine :o), we all have budgets we need to adhere to. I always wonder how the people who whine about LFC not paying a little bit more manage their own finances. It’s not like Liverpool aren’t already offering a significant sum for a player that seems to want to leave…and doesn’t have any other options in the pipeline.
January 25, 2016 at 10:32 pm #819350Hopefully the clubs will meet in the middle, 32 million might do the trick.
January 25, 2016 at 10:43 pm #819362NB,according to Sky Sports site,we are still ‘way off’ the valuation of Shakhtar. It says that they lost Douglas Costa to Bayern ‘on the cheap’ and are determined not to let Texieira go on the cheap. We’re gonna have to stop pissing about and up the offer even more it seems
January 25, 2016 at 10:46 pm #819365Good post Mr Mak, I’m very strongly of the view we need a player like this but there has to be a line in the sand somewhere. IMO 30mil is too much & I say if they won’t budge we move on. I want us to succeed but don’t want us to waste money like we have recently, as Mr Mak says players have come from other leagues before looking like world beaters but find it difficult in the EPL, was it Morientes who looked awesome in another league but struggled for us in the EPL. I hope we get him but not for crazy money like 38mill.
January 25, 2016 at 11:03 pm #819383Aussie, Morienties is indeed an interesting example of a ‘perfect’ transfer that didn’t quite end up perfect. I think that warrants further investigation as to why? Not adapting to the pace of the league was one possibility, another is that he didn’t quite suit us in our setup.
We’ve just bought Benteke for £32 mill, a player who may get better and improve, but is unlikely, because of his style and ours, to be value for money for us at that price.
If Teixeira we believe will fit us like a glove, and has been very well scouted, than to moan about paying a similar amount to Benteke regardless of his lack of Brazil caps, is a bit hypocritical.January 26, 2016 at 6:26 am #819470Russian club??? Come on Teamtalk!!!
January 26, 2016 at 7:48 am #819545The way some people here are talking, you’d swear £28m was an insulting offer. As for the worry that we may lose out to Chelsea, are ye suggesting Liverpool just throw £38m on the table? That’s way over what should be paid and it would also cost us in future deals when other clubs know we just offer whatever mad figure they ask for.
£28m is a solid bid, I don’t give a damn what their asking price is. This is an uncapped Brazilian from a pretty awful league. If Liverpool somehow miss out on him then it isn’t because they haven’t tried. People on here talking about an extra £10m like it’s pocket-money. Just make sure not to ask for the price of your tickets to ever come down.
January 26, 2016 at 8:10 am #819587Mikus, you’re right that we can’t have it both ways but not everyone thought Benteke or some of the others were good value for money, unfortunately the club did at the time. He’s a £15 million player and always has always been in my opinion, particularly for a team playing a different style. You’re also correct in that it does damage to the perception re what we’re prepared to pay for players. On the other hand Teixeira has a serious goal scoring record and is hot property at the moment (22 goals in 15). They know it and so should we. We’ll have to go for another few million to land him or we just won’t be getting him. It’s always a risk but this lad is probably worth risking bib numbers for. If we don’t go that extra mile this time, I think it have a very negative impact on the club/fans/manager.
January 26, 2016 at 8:31 am #819653Mr Mak… there’s an ongoing negotiation as we all know.. £28 million is a good offer but I’ve no doubt but that Liverpool know it’s no going to get the player. They would have known that from the start also…. it’s just going through the motions. If they pull out at £28 million they’d just as well never have started bidding. How many time in the past two years have we lost on players by just valuing a player at a price and not bidding above it? I appreciate that there’s always a risk but Brazilians seem to do well in our league, this lads knows where the net it and he’ll settle in quickly with him fellow country men. He’s also fast and skilful. We need this!
January 26, 2016 at 8:35 am #819671Price of footballer players has already rocket up and will rise up further in summer due to the new lucrative TV contract. Alex Teixeir has never capped for Brazil before while Firmino has played 30% of the Brazil games when he joined us.
Signing Teixeir at same price as Firmino is already a reasonable price including TV inflation factor.
However the owner of Shakhtrar is a very rich man and is notorious for making every pound out from his players. It is unlikely for us to get the player unless we meet their asking price. Now it is up to Klopp & the transfer committee. What is the quality of this player? Can he help the team to turn the corner around? Are there other players with better quality available?
Quality of the player is the most important factor in a signing. If the player can help the team to get a CL spot, we can immediately get back all the money from that CL spot, let alone rewards from next season. If the player is just an average player, it is a bad deal no matter the price is 25M or 40M. It is the first testing for Klopp in this crazy transfer market.
January 26, 2016 at 9:38 am #819758Mikus: mate I thought we overpaid a lot for Benteke but don’t forget we also had money to spend due to player sales, which is something we don’t have now. The owners have put all money we got from selling our stars into new players but we won’t have that now so they need to be careful who we buy. That said maybe your right & we need to spend if Klopp wants him & believes he will change our fortunes, I trust him a lot more than Rodgers. Isn’t he injured at the moment though, we don’t need another Aquilani.
January 26, 2016 at 10:23 am #819869Quite Aussie, everything should be accounted for when spending that sort of money. For the record I think £38 mill is ridiculous, but as I say, we shoot ourselves in the foot by overpaying for players and then trying to play hardball on others, no doubt as I’ve said and you have, because we don’t have big bucks from a recent sale this times.
I believe a lot of these players are increasingly unsettled in Ukraine because of the political situation. You would think a compromise will be reached.
January 26, 2016 at 10:59 am #819956I know this guy has hit goal scoring form this season, but everything suggests he’s not a striker. Do we really need another no.10 who (history suggests) will need time to settle? If you believe the Football Manager database as SKY do (still find it hilarious that they put so much weight behind opinion not fact with the numbers) – Then Tex is a number 10 only and not close to being a striker. So my real question is why him?
January 26, 2016 at 1:35 pm #820439Why him???
Maybe because of the amount of goals he’s scored, or his goals to games ratio, or the fact he’s rarely injured, or the fact he’s available this window and willing to come to us.
I’m really hoping he comes in and helps to fire us far in the Europa which I think we have a good chance of doing well in.January 26, 2016 at 1:53 pm #820538The Evening Standard running with a story tonight that after selling Ramires for £25m Chelsea are prepared to meet Shaktars price of £38m for Texiera as well as sign Pato???????????????????
January 26, 2016 at 3:43 pm #820793Other transfers have nothing to do with it and they’d quickly be reminded of that were they to bring it up during negotiations. if that kind of nonsense were to apply then we could say “well, how good is he compared to Suarez, cause we got him for £24m (or whatever it was)”.
The sources posting that the deal is nearly done are totally full of it too. All just trying to get you to bid one way or the other, make it sound like it’s nearly done or it’s probably off in order to bleed money out of you. It’s a process and as this process goes there will be stories that swing both ways to cover both bases and make a profit at it.
We’ll probably sign him and the fee will likely be £31-32m. Sue me if I’m wrong.
January 26, 2016 at 4:12 pm #820862999 – It wouldn’t surprise me it is what you did with Salah, let us do the work and then jump in with more money 🙂
