Ian…if you think Sturridge, as an experienced international and the top paid player on the pitch last night, did enough against League 2 opposition, then frankly I am very surprised. I will temper my criticism of him by saying Origi was an even bigger disgrace, but it’s just not good enough.

He’s capable of so much better on a consistent basis…or is he? He has qualities…his goal in Basle in May was quite sublime…but for whatever reason, be it injury, be it ‘the system’, be it arrogance and laziness, we just don’t see it anywhere near often enough.

Spot on nine. Complete rubbish that people would suggest they wouldn’t mind if we lost to Plymouth. Klopp has lost his lasy 5 finals. We have not won trophy in over ten years.klopp and the club, badly badly need a trophy.

Errrr….. League Cup Final 2012? OK, I can accept the habitual pessimism, but that doesn’t have to extend to re-writing our Honours Board.

Hightown, I also didn’t think Sturridge had a good game by his standards last night (from my view on the telly). My point was there is a lot that goes on on a footy pitch that we don’t see on the tv, which was pointed out by the commentators. Sturridge was making runs and finding space, but the others in the team didn’t take advantage of his work. What pressing can he do if the opposition don’t have the ball? What shot can he take if he doesn’t get passed to when in space or making a good run? At the point we have possession, surely his job is to find space, make runs, be a distraction to defenders and pull them out of position for other players to exploit, and to make himself available to his teammates for a pass etc. I don’t know what else he should do in that situation? He didn’t have a great game from what I saw, but to me It sounds like he may have had a better game to the viewer if his teammates had found him at the right times

I was so bored watching this match that I fell asleep. I literally fell asleep. I might want us to stay in the competition in the hope of it getting better in the latter stages but this match did absolutely nothing for me.

We have a waffer thin squad who I tihnk need to set the PL as a 95% priority. Would the FA Cup be good to win? Absolutely but not at the expense of the PL. That said, it was quite a light team put out with some young propsects getting valuable football alongside some senior players. That’s worth something. Klopp having lost his last 5 cup finals will no doubt play on his mind a bit and if we can correct that then that is also worth something. We dont want that hanging over his head if we were to reach the CL final next seaosn or the seaosn after. .

So overall I am pretty happy to progress in the 90 esp[ecially. It’s good to see people being pleased with Woodburn and AA but on the other side of the coin, I am in 2 minds about Sturridge again.

    His attitude stinks.

I have some fondness for him from all the greta goals he’s scored for us but when he goes out and acts precious or any time you see him very obviously not fitting into Klopps system, from what is really a lack of trying. . It can wear at my patience.

I commented in the other thread that i think that both Sturridge and Origi should be dropped for the Swansea match but having thoguht about things more, I think I just want Sturridge to be sold. Balotelli and Sakho were bad for the environment for different reasons and I think that Sturridge is also, even if in a much less serious manner thna the other 2.

I know this will open up a huge can of worms but that’s just how I feel about this situation. I want to be clear though, if anyone calls me a racist, I’ll own you.

Mak, Sturridge’s face when he got subbed last night said it all for me. He’s gone in the summer.

Do we have a “wafer thin squad” though?
When our normal first team plays we have a bench somewhat resembling this…
Karius, Klavan, Can, Sturridge, Origi, Gomez, Grujic.
Any squad at any one time has someone injured which is normally when someone from the bench steps up and a fringe player/youth player takes his place.

Keep in mind also that we have no European football this year so the squad doesn’t need to be as big.

Sean old pal, I agree I think Sturridge is gone in the summer as he will want to move on. However that’s not the point I was making.

Origi was terrible last night, in my opinion worse than Sturridge, that’s the point I was making. I don’t think it’s fair to say Origi was ok but Sturridge was terrible. Both were not good enough.

Let’s face it when people say this they are judging Sturridge by his own top standards which is fine but he did make runs, should’ve got a peno and could have scored. And as for being miserable Lol What do people expect when being subbed when he sees his colleague whose played worse than him still on the pitch, fluffing a poor penalty.

Red Herring, Ian and Ginger well done for keeping it real.

I don’t get this sturridge attitude stuff?? Did anyone see his interview with Geoff shreeves? his attitude was spot on. I don’t know how ,any times he said it’s a team game. He hasn’t knocked on klopps door ranting and raving. The chap gets a raw deal. Do you see arsenal fans knocking Sanchez for his attitude over the last few weeks when’s he’s throwing his gloves on the ground after games or moaning when subbed? Sturridge clapped the fans but was understandably pissed to be taken off. Origi plays because he runs more. It’s bollox that sturridge doesn’t try. Did you see the sweat running down his face when he was coming off?

Bob, that’s it. Origi has been terrible but he doesn’t get as much stick as sturridge.Best finisher we have and I’ll be sad to see him go. gets a raw deal from some fans because he hasn’t hit ghe form we know he can.

We have a decent enough squad to compete in the league and cups. No Europe is a big plus. We play 2 games a week for a month then it’s bsck to ine game a week. We would have had a free week this week on,y for the replay. We badly need a trophy.

Agree Sean, he did try though he didn’t have a good game.

“I was a bit frustrated for Sturridge myself tonight.”

“He made a lot of runs and the midfield were playing too safe. He’ll be frustrated on the bus tonight knowing he made the runs and didn’t get the ball”

are you guys really praising Sturridge for running around like a headless chicken because some commentator said it was for the team? Moreno had a lot of runs as well, so did Origi, Woodburn, Ojo probably managed just as many in his short cameo.

I want to see some hunger in his game again, see him pissed off with a point to prove but he is leaving it awful late for that to happen.

I think Sturridge genuinely tries but he just isn’t hitting anywhere near the levels we know he’s capable of. One thing I’ve been thinking about in regards to his form is maybe not playing with the top players is effecting his game badly. By that I mean just look at Firmino when Coutinho got injured, he went downhill very badly & didn’t seem to be linking up anywhere near as well. I think Sturridge is making decent runs etc but he isn’t getting the ball when or where he wants it. Maybe if we put him in with the 1st team for a couple of games he would find form again, but then again that’d mean breaking up or at least altering the great link up play of Firmino & Coutinho.
Tough one as he is our best finisher by far IMO but I agree with those that say he will be gone in the summer.

At the end of the day we are through to the next round after playing a pretty much 2nd string team over the 2 legs so we can’t complain too much. Yep I’d rather we played awesome & tore them a new one but we are through so yeehaa.

“which is fine but he did make runs, should’ve got a peno” – Am I the only one who didn’t think it was a penalty? While I was watchig it live I didnt even get that slight hope you get thta the ref might point to the spot. Not for a second.

I would like to know if the lads who can’t see anything wrong with Sturridge’s attitude hada problem with Torres’s attitude towards the end?

For me it’s a pretty similar situation, in Torres’s case it seemed that i was one of the few who thoguht he wasnt moping around and would come good in time but in reality he wasn’t hungry anymore and sulked when things werent going his way, which was more and more often as time went on.

The thing about Torres was that he was still worth a lot when it came to selling him but Sturridge has had so many little injuries that no teamis going to consider him to be reliable, regardless of anything else.
