    So the first XI is:
    Migs
    TAA Lovren Klavan Moreno
    Hendo Wijnaldum Coutinho
    Salah Firmino Mane

Klavan and Lovren starting together, we are in for a ride now. I definitely think we should have given Gomez the start. Didn’t he have a good game against Brazil a few days ago?

That’s a team strong enough to win this game.
Gomez clearly rested for the away game to Sevilla midweek where we’ll be attacked more. I imagine TAA has been drafted in also to provide more of an attacking threat against a team who’ll probably park the bus.
The concern, as always, are set pieces and corners.
That front four of Coutinho sitting deeper behind Mane, Salah and Firmino looks mouthwatering with TAA and Moreno providing loads of width and good delivery in.
No need for Hendo and Wij to over commit, just provide protection for the defence particularly on the break.
Some bench we have there and Lallana isn’t even on it.

What a shot from Salah. Terrific finish, just what we needed. What a run of form this boy is having now.

    Yes!
What a shot and finish from Salah?!
    The lad is a revelation!
How good is Firmino at robbing players off the ball in their own half?

AK Southampton was really organised and we were struggling to break them down before that great goal from Salah. We were very patient and did not get troubled at the back.

Another nervy moment from Migs. He’s not having the best of games today.

2-0! Fantastic pass by Coutinho, great run by Salah. That’s 9 goals in 12 PL games now for Mo Salah. What a bargain this boy has been.

    Agree Geller.
That’s a coupla times now Migs has been glued to his 6yrd box when he should have came.
Luckily we’ve got away with it.

    Great first half.
Salah now on 14 in 18.
Could be breaking 20 before the new year.
Let’s put this game to bed in first 20 of the second half and then we can make subs, rest a few boys and give others game time.
If we concede the next goal things could get hairy.

Just need to see this game out. Get a third and don’t give these any chance if getting back in the game. Start the game on the back foot and just don’t make any stupid mistakes at the back.

Don’t start the 2nd half like we did at West Ham. I’m never comfortable when we are 2-0 up

Job done, now let’s beat Sevilla on Tuesday.

Oh I forgot… Mo Salah, top scorer in the Premiership at this point. I predicted 30 goals for him this season, and I’m right on track

A comfortable and confident win today.
Still only 1 goal conceded at home in the league.
Coming into form just at the right time for this really busy period leading up to new year and with players coming back from injury.
    Salah is unreal.
Well on course to hit 20 goals by the new year.

Up next in the league is Chelsea at home.

We actually have the 2nd best defensive record at home after manu. Read that somewhere. But salah. What a signing he has been. He can score from outside the box. Tap ins. Headers. brilliant player

Hopefully so Ginger i.e. coming into form. My reservation is the squad but all will be properly tested coming into December and January as it was last year.

Do we have the players and squad depth to deal with what’s coming? It has been a poor start to the season in general but, as always, December and January always sorts out the pack trying to qualify for the Champions Leage and positions in the PL.

Great to see Mané back in the team. Hopefully Lallana and a few others coming back will give us momentum.

This is the strongest squad we’ve had in at least a decade.
I don’t think or hope Matips injury is too serious and if we don’t pick up many more injuries I think we should be able to cope.
As always the worry is centre of defence.

Bofa, regarding squad depth, in midfield and attack we definitely have it, 9 midfielders and 4 strikers:

    Midfielders
    – Henderson, Can (Holding)
    – Wijnaldum, Lallana, Milner, Grujic (Attacking)
    – Mane, Salah, Ox (Wingers)

    Strikers
    – Firmino, Sturridge, Solanke, Brewster
