Dejan Lovren admits he is “feeling more comfortable” at Liverpool now after a difficult debut season at Anfield.

My blood boils when this guy speaks or plays for LFC. Why does this he open his mouth? How can he say that he is more settled? he plays 2 games after being dropped and injured and now he thinks he’s settled… grrrr! He should be afraid of his future in this team. His big price tag is the only thing keeping him at the club.

He alludes to last year being tough because of a short pre season. At the start of the season he mentioned that the whole team were poor not just him. You don’t need a preseason to avoid schoolboy defensive mistakes. He has been one of the worst centre backs at LFC as far as i can recall. Seems like he always has an excuse up his sleeve. Usually what follows is more horrendous defensive errors.

Dejan, please don’t say anything. Accept that you’ve been atrocious. Be grateful for continuing to get chances to play for LFC. No amount of words can atone for your consistently terrible performances for LFC. Only sustained good performances can provide salvation. Do your talking on the field.

Clibo – If Lovren is one of the worst centre backs you have seen at LFC, I can only think that you are quite young or have a short memory 🙂

Paxman – while I can think of a few worse, Piechnik, Tanner, Kvarme and Pellegrini, you’ve got to admit for £20m and taking into account value for money, he’s right up there!

Hightown – To be honest I don’t ever look at the price tag when rating a player, there are so many other variables that go to decide a players transfer value, and lets face it transfer fees have no impact on any supporter as it doesn’t come out of our pocket. I think it is quite a recent thing that fans use transfer fees to bash players or opposition supporters with.

Lovren is certainly in the top 3 worst centre backs we’ve had this last decade. Stop it Paxman, the transfer fee certainly needs to be considered

Paxman – try telling Steve Daley who City signed for £1.5m in around 1979 that transfer fees weren’t used to bash players. Of course they were. You’re just being obtuse. And of course transfer fees have an impact on fans as by using £20m on Lovren we couldn’t spend it elsewhere

Hightown – Yes we may have spent that 20M elsewhere and it could have just as easily been just as much of a waste. At the end of the day, it is the club we support, so whoever is on that pitch we should get behind 100% at that time.

Why do you think they have said about the England matches having such a poor atmosphere in the last 20 years, and about the fact that club football dominates so much these days that England fans prefer to abuse England players than play for opposition clubs rather than support them as England players, all player play better with the fans behind them, hurling abuse at them when on the pitch is counter productive.

Pax, you haven’t said who is worse?

Hightown makes a good and relevant point… LFC had to purchase a new CB as it was an area of concern. The budget was spent (blown) on Lovren who became our most expensive CB. While there may have been worse defenders than him, pound for pound he is the worst.

Anyway, the point is he should not be coming out saying how settled he is, or how preseason affected him , or how the whole team has been poor. He should just zip it, knuckle down, stop making stupid defensive errors, and contribute to a solid defence… maybe then, if he has achieved this, at the end of the season he can say he is settled.

He can expect to be criticized when making public statements until such time as he has proven himself.

Pax – I’m not sure where your argument is going, mate. Who’s talking about hurling abuse at them when they’re on the pitch and who’s talking about atmosphere at grounds?

Clibo offered his opinion that Lovren was ONE of the worst centre backs he can recall. I really don’t think there can be too much to argue with there. And Lovren should shut up and concentrate on eliminating those stupid errors. In terms of value for money AND talent shown at Anfield he is among the worst I’ve seen in 45 years. Maybe he can improve…He’s got a chance now with Sakho out and as Ginger said, 2 months, Dean. …show us we’re wrong!

Not only did we blow £20mil on a left sided centreback that is Lovren but we blew it while we already had the left sided centreback that is Sakho who is a far more accomplished player.

This is Lovren’s chance try to prove He is worth His Value, Since He signed He’s never looked comfortable in the Red Shirt, Maybe His fortunes will change, Maybe they won’t, Let’s give the Lad a Chance to prove the doubters wrong, One of the worst I’ve seen has to be Phil Babb, Bought on the strength of One decent game in WC 1994 for R.O.I. and look how that turned out.

Redwing80 – In response to your Lovren in top 3 worst center backs at Liverpool in the last decade, which of the following would you have playing ahead of Lovren?

    Pellegrini
    Paletta
    Kyrgiakos
    Ayala
    Wilson
    Coates

Of those only Kyrgiakos was anything like a first choice, and even he never really was and I bet the other 5 didn’t play 20 games between them, certainly not starting. Lovren has been considered 1st choice for almost all his time at Anfield.

Before you go and tell me that actually the 5 of them played 30 games, you know the point I’m making!

And taxi, you’re so right about Phil Babb…and he wasn’t cheap! Though he did provide one of the great comedy moments of recent years down at the Anfield Rd end almost castrating himself on the goalpost!

Those CBs were all backups and relatively cheap – doubt they all add up to more than 20 million. None of them were bought to be starters.

Lovren, as the most expensive CB, should be compared to Hyppia, Carra, Henchoz, Agger, Skrtel, Wright, Ruddock etc.

Whats annoying about Lovren is he doesn’t come out and say that he has been performing poorly and is trying his utmost to improve. He comes up with excuses deflecting attention from his own horrendously terribly poor performances; i.e. blaming teammates, lack of preseason, new club etc:
    http://www.teamtalk.com/news/lovren-not-just-me-at-anfield-that-was-bad-7

Every time he opens his mouth he cocks up. SO best he shuts it. We supporters are no fools. If he plays well he will be praised. If he plays poorly and opens his mouth he will be criticized.

    Paxman, you can’t be serious

    Kyrgiakos was a better defender

Ayala was never even given a chance that I can remember

Wilson was decent and never given a fair shot

Coates and Lovren are neck and neck. I’d rather take him back than play Lovren at the moment

And all of those defenders were not even half the fee Lovren was
