Any of you ‘football geniuses’ out there still think that “we should have signed Morata” instead of Lukaku?.
That’s not to say that he hasn’t got his faults, but I have to say he is one of the few who is standing up to be counted this season, well done Rom lad.

Weird how there only seemed to be three strikers in the whole world available last summer…Lukaku, Morata and Belotti.

Think we definitely got the best one of the three. As long as he kicks on to higher levels next season I’m happy enough for now.

Agree Tommy, imagine if he actually had a quality supply line from the flanks as well?.Our right flank hardly delivers a decent ball from one week to the next,so despite his obvious limitations on the ball at times I don’t think we can complain too much, especially seeing how poorly Morata has fared at Chelsea.

Not just Morata, glad we stayed away from R.Sanches and I.Perisic too, even tho one cannot say how things would have turned if they were signed.

Credit to lukaku, over the last few months his overall game has improved massively. He is the only one with a bit of passion and fight in the side. Take the armband from valencia and give it to lukaku. I’ve seen him few times having a go at pogba when a lot of strikers wouldn’t even react.

Lukaku has been outstanding last month or two. He might not quite be on the level of some of the great United strikers of the past but if every player in the squad put in as much effort as Lukaku United would be having a better season. Pogba in particular needs to show the same graft and there could be the spine of an outstanding team for the next 5-10 years.

I’m glad to see others on here have nnoticed. After that spell when he did virtually nothing it seems he has become the one with the most character in the team and started looking for the ball and bringing others into lay. If only his first touch was a little better at teams he would be a worldy. Daft thing is that goal he scored yesterday came from a decent cross but we are starving him of those, Start of the season he was being fed those by Martial and he was scoring it all seems so simple

Lukaku all day long. Big bully up front, quick and fearless with his head. Always appreciative for the efforts of his colleagues, goes a long way for the unity of the squad. He is going to miss a lot of opportunities when Martial goes.

Lukaku has shown great character and has improved massively, getting better every game, only player after De Gea to actually have the desire to play football, i think Lukaku has a better understanding partnership with Martial and i hope they can forge and perfect it next season

Mourinho’s problem is he thinks Lukaku is Drogba who can hold up play, link in midfielders and he’s not that type of player. Lukaku is closer to Ruud van Nistelrooy, strong, quick, great in the air and just wants the ball in the air and the six yard box so he can poke it home and not have to control it first. Let him run behind defences or attack close in and he’s massively effective. Just don’t, and I stress this, ask him to be Drogba.

Both as bad as each other I would say.

Lukaku is improving but he’s still nowhere near good enough. Whether that’s because he often gets isolated on his own or if the system doesn’t suit his attributes or if he’s not actually that good or if its a combination of them all its unclear.

Lukaku has 14 goals in 2519 mins in the league to date. Thats a goal every 180 mins. In fact he’s only missed one game all season which was arguably our best performance to date away at Everton.

Morata has 10 goals in 1652 mins which is a goal every 165 mins. He’s been in and out of the team through injury, etc.

Compared to Kane (1 every 100 mins), Aguero (1 every 93 mins) and Salah (1 every 85 mins) it’s not great. Martial even has a better rate of scoring than Lukaku and Morata at 1 every 148 mins but apparently he’s expendable to some of you lot.

@Manny – If Lukaku played for City or Spurs I would be willing to bet that his goals per minutes ratio would be very close to that of Aguero or Kane, simply because of the quality of service those guys get from the flanks. Not only that they have quality midfield runners getting up in support to take defenders away and create them space to get shots at goal.
Just look at our delivery from the flanks particularly our right hand side,it’s pathetic and Valencia for one couldn’t cross himself in church never mind the ball.
That’s not to say that Lukaku doesn’t need to improve his first touch and his shooting with his right foot because he most certainly does but I think 25 goals so far and a final total of over 30 is acceptable enough playing in such a non creative, unimaginative team like ours, simple as that.

With no wingers, 2 deplorable full backs and a totally inconsistent selection of attacking players alongside him, I think Lukaku has done pretty well and I would doubt if Kane, Aguero et al would have fared much better if at all. He did look a bit leaden footed post xmas but that was largely down to being flogged by JM.

@Manny – If Morata played in our side I doubt he would have double figures,he’s only got 13 as it is at Chelsea and that’s playing alongside Willian,Hazard,Fabregas and co.Added to which Chelsea play with more width than we do with their wing backs, anyway it’s only speculation either way.
