redblood – priceless response to the Hat mate even though I do not agree fully with your views on Ronaldo,
June 20, 2017 at 11:13 am #1496299It seems the club is soon to come out with the statement that Jose is NOT interested in CR7!
June 20, 2017 at 11:15 am #1496302emmicallef-Forgot to add mate that every book/essay nil writes it gives me bloody vertigo fits,so I have to take a break and take the dog for a walk, lol
June 20, 2017 at 11:33 am #1496306@redblood. Hide in bushes? Hahahahaha. I don’t know what type of women you are dealing with on these “rendezvous” of yours hehehe.
June 20, 2017 at 11:43 am #1496310redblood – Everyone has his particular style/way to communicate his opinion from one liners to essays to autobiographies.
What is of importance in my humble opinion is the content.Nevertheless walking the doggie is good for your health especially if you have bloody vertigo fits.
Reading a very good autobiography titled ”The Immortal”by Duncan Hamilton featuring none other than George Best. Definitely much better than walking the doggie.
June 20, 2017 at 12:21 pm #1496339hatters-Not the women the problem mate,Winston and Julia were terrified of being caught by the Party,so they had to hide. You just never know where the thought police can reach you, lol.
June 20, 2017 at 12:50 pm #1496360@redblood. Oh yes of course haha. I haven’t actually read 1984, an ex girlfriend of mine read it and had the pleasure of getting running commentary about it.
June 20, 2017 at 1:33 pm #1496375“My position has never changed regarding old signings, Zlatan included. I have 2 reasons, (1) I don’t like to watch a player slowly go downhill (2) I’m interested in building (maintaining) a great team that will stay together for an era“.
It wasn’t that I expected your stance to change. I was merely interested in a contextual evaluation. To that end:
“You can argue Zlatan’s goals helped us or his misses hindered us“.
As far as I know, he ended his season with a conversion rate below 15%. As such, even with 28 goals to his name, he could perhaps have done his job – conversion of chances to goals – better. And in a season with so many missed chances and so many draws, it’s hard to not feel a tad unhappy about that.
Also, just out of curiosity: You’re very adamant about the whole not being too old thing. Where do you draw the line – when is someone to old to be signed on?
“hatters-Recently I read 1984[ for the 5th time] quicker that nil`s essays,hehehe“.
“I don’t know what more painful, reading 1984 and realizing we are currently living it, reading nil’s essays, or getting sucked into “debate” with theMartial Art“.
“emmicallef-Forgot to add mate that every book/essay nil writes it gives me bloody vertigo fits,so I have to take a break and take the dog for a walk, lol”
WTF? Essays, man… Only way to fly. 🙂
June 20, 2017 at 2:27 pm #1496403@nil. Good job keeping your latest post under 300 words. We are all very grateful, especially redblood who can now rest his tired eyes. Hehehe.
June 20, 2017 at 2:39 pm #1496411@nil – United used to have a policy of not signing (big money) players over 25. You can add a couple more years for defenders since they tend to have longer careers. This policy served us well in the past because it gave us player longevity and that in turn meant team stability. I agree with that policy. Here are some of SAFs big money signings with age (approx).
Keane [22] RvN [25] Rooney [18] Cole [24] Veron [26] Rio [22] Berbatov [27] Stamm [26] Carrick [25] Hargreaves [26] Bruce [27] Pallister [24] McClair [24] Hughes [25] Webb [26] Ince [22]
And some big signings before Fergie: Law [22] Robson [24] Buchan [23] Pearson [25]
PS – was looking for a site that lists United’s record signings back to Busby era.
June 20, 2017 at 4:30 pm #1496482Mac – There is always bound to be exceptions to the rule apart that times changes everything and Ronaldo fits the saying perfectly.
The thread was uploaded more with hope in the heart than with any real conviction and I do not think that it was such a bad idea, albeit a couple of personal negative posts from the usual suspects.
Reaching 7 pages has been a good response but the original sprint has diminished to a crawling pace and time for archiving beckons me thinks.cheers
June 20, 2017 at 4:53 pm #1496492Jose next to be accused of tax evasion!
June 20, 2017 at 5:01 pm #1496495@emmicallef – Yes there are exceptions and undoubtedly Ronnie is an exceptional player. But I fear what makes him more exceptional is his commercial value. We agree its not going to happen, but if for the sake of discussion we ignore that, I fear the decision to sign him would be more down to commercial reasons than footballing ones.
Nothing wrong with this becoming a super-thread, there’s not much more to talk about other than JM going to jail for tax fraud:)
And it touches on an important topic. the age of signings. I fear there is a policy change where Ed is looking to big name players for shirt selling reasons and because a big name in his prime would be astronomical the club is happy to happy big names past their prime who have a couple of years left in them. eg Scweinsteiger Zlatan.
June 20, 2017 at 5:44 pm #1496504I think the club should go after the T`s,Terry,Torres,Totti!
