Martial, I’ll be sure to forward your post onto John Henry and Klopp for consideration. Thanks so much for your care, time and effort.

Here’s what I would have changed:

    Switched to a diamond 442.

Brought on Henderson as the 6 and moved Bobby to 10. Up front Salah left and Mane right. That would have taken care off Young’s assignment of negating Mo’s effectiveness.

Henderson and Firmino then flanked by Can (right) and Wij (left).

Brought on Matip for Lovren and moved Virgil right centre back to properly match up, physically, that area. TAA also needed help on that side which clearly he wasn’t getting from Lovren.

I indicated on my initial game post that this game would be won and lost in midfield and it was. Milner and Mane repeatedly gave the ball away, Can, who was telling everyone to calm down was flinging himself all over the place and Ox was totally ineffective and I had to idea what role he had yesterday. United controlled proceedings because we looked mostly devoid of ideas.

Bad match ups all around and United deserving winners as much I hate saying that. They did their homework and passed the test and we didn’t and failed. You don’t perform, I don’t care who you are, you don’t deserve success.

Onto Watford at home next week for 3 points (altho Deeney will get his customary goal against us).

Ginger, exactly. Outside our front 3 we have a severe lack of goals. We had no one to really change the game yday. Lalanna is not fit. Winji went to right full and Solanke has not scored.

We need better attacking options off the bench.Any of our front 3 get injured and we are screwed.

We knew utd would sit back at some stage but we didn’t create anything after our goal. We huffed and puffed. Yday was so predictable. We all knew what was coming so surely Klopp did

Again defensive mistakes kill us when it really matters.

I don’t see how a diamond would have helped.
They were defending very narrow to negate Mane and Salahs runs into the box, a diamond just narrows our attack even further playing into their hands.
Matips been our worst performing centreback this season and for such a tall guy he’s not very good in the air or physical. God knows what Lukaku woulda done with him.

I just don’t get why Henderson was not on the field, he would have been in the face of the ref from the get go, he wouldn’t have allowed that kind of muckering about from the ref, Can protested a bit but everybody just played into some kinda pathetic gamemanship that benefited Utd.

Klopp learns from his mistakes, we needed that extra bit of temper for the derby, Jordan would have been up for that or got himself sent off for arguing with the ref.

I’ve said it before but despite a few occasions Klopp rarely changes things during a game. Our game management is odd at best, many posts have been put up on what we could & maybe should have changed but it’s like Klopp doesn’t like to admit he got it wrong to start with & just keeps bashing the head against the wall doing the same thing despite it not working. This is where other top managers have it over Klopp, if they see it not working they change it pretty quickly. Maybe he just doesn’t have the players yet but I agree with those saying we needed to change things during the game.

Agree Matip has had a poor season in general after a promising start to his career with us but I’m open to giving him another season to see how he gets on.

Lovren has been with us longer and I haven’t personally seen enough to suggest that he will cut out the inconsistency in his game.

TAA started out as a holding midfielder, and perhaps that’s where he should return. Liverpool certainly needs a dedicated holding midfielder also.

Yes we didn’t create a great deal, and things could have been better, there didn’t seem to be any high pressing in the first half, but on another day the ref does his job and we are congratulating ourselves on a decent win 4-2

TAA is only 19 and for the last 2 seasons he’s been deployed as a rightback and from Klopps previous comments he sees him there next season too.
He may have played in midfield when he was 16/17 but at that age players are played in a variety of positions to give them experience and a better understanding of what’s expected of them. At a similar age Carra was a striker, then moved to midfield then fullback and eventually centreback.
That’s not to say TAA won’t be played at midfield at some stage but let’s not put too much pressure on this young lad who overall has done very well this season.

Still would not have started with TAA on Saturday, as Gomez is more experienced, even though he also has an occasional mistake in him.

Gomez has actually man marked some top attackers out of the game this season, so we should have started with him

    Hindsight’s a fantastic thing.
Earlier in the season he started against Utd too, they targeted him then as well and he stood up to the challenge.
He’s been playing these last few weeks and doing very well.
Gomez has been out and had only played the CL game midweek where he wasn’t exactly fantastic. If Gomez hadda been playing regularly leading up to this game then I’d have been right behind him starting too as he’s more defensive.
I didn’t hear any complaints about the starting team beforehand or many advocating starting Gomez in the days leading up to it.

We’ve lost 4 league games this season and the losses v City and Spurs were far worse.

Sure, hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I definitely felt uncomfortable with 2 decisions before the match – Henderson not starting, and TAA starting instead of Gomez. Note, my starting lineup included both Henderson and Gomez.

I just think that Gomez is better defensively, while TAA is better going forward.

So to avoid any doubt, my starting lineup for our next game on Saturday is as follows:
    Karius
    Gomez Matip VVD Robertson
    Can Henderson Wijnaldum
    Salah Firmino Mane

Didnt know that TAA started out playing as a midfielder. Maybe I am being overly critical on his performance as a right-back but still no excuse for him to be caught ball-watching for some of the games he was in whether he plays as a defender or midfielder.

No, you’re not being critical about TAA, he even apologised on social media to Liverpool fans, so he knew he messed up. I was furious that both United goals were virtually similar, targeting our weakest link at right-back.

Doesn’t mean he can’t improve and become a top player though, as he’s still quite young

but songman surely its klopps fault as well mate? You could tell after de geas 1st two kicks what utds plan was. Why didnt klopp react and put someone out to help taa?

why wasnt someone put in front of lackau? taa is very young. Hes not a right full and has done well this season. Our wide men dont really help our full backs either. Look at utd everytime salah got the ball. 2/3 players around him. look at utds two goals. Terrible goals to concede
