I wish Liverpool would just recruit Southampton scouts would save us millions every year!!!!!
June 27, 2016 at 1:01 pm #1080501£34 million, what a f**king joke.
June 27, 2016 at 1:51 pm #1080588Don’t know what to make of it anymore. I had big hopes for Lovren, Lallana, Benteke but they have all disappointed. Mane looks good and, as always, I’ll give him a chance but I’m not getting excited about our signings anymore. We’ve done nothing right since signing Suarez Studge and Couts.
June 27, 2016 at 2:12 pm #1080609i agree shanksky, no signing these days excites me at all. 80% of them never work out for us.
for a player to be considered a good signing, he would want to be performing at a decent level for a few seasons and help us actaully achieve something
June 27, 2016 at 2:24 pm #1080645Sadio Mane has 8 goals in his last 8 league appearances for Southampton, having gone without scoring in his previous 19. If Klopp likes him, Klopp should be able to get him to score regularly. Does this mean Benteke will be gone?
June 27, 2016 at 2:44 pm #1080675I think Benteke was gone regardless.
It wasn’t an either/or scenario.
Obviously depending on an acceptable bid coming in.
Mane is a good player but not worth £36mil.June 27, 2016 at 3:37 pm #1080768Sturridge coutinho Mane n Firmino will destroy all defences
June 27, 2016 at 4:04 pm #1080819Mane isn’t worth 30+ million but that’s what you probably have to pay for a EPL player of his quality. With the TV money coming in, clubs won’t be in need of selling so demanding ridiculous money.
June 27, 2016 at 6:58 pm #1081125City and Utd are buying class players for under £35m that will help them win things. Lost all faith in Klopp!!!
June 27, 2016 at 7:05 pm #1081140Jesus – Another season and another club takes you to the cleaners for one of their players. £34m – Really?? What the hell does a world class player cost nowadays then?? The entire football world has gone completely mad. Just goes to prove that there’s way too much money swilling around today. Utter madness.
June 27, 2016 at 7:09 pm #1081143Don’t feed the troll. Just out of interest Sludgy, who’s your team?
June 27, 2016 at 7:12 pm #1081146World class talent goes around for 100 million this summer, at least thats the price for Bale and thats the price for Pogba and I would consider them world class.
June 27, 2016 at 7:12 pm #1081155Not a fan of Mane. I think he’s pretty wild and very erratic. I simply can’t accept that he is the best we could expect to get for £30m. But if he comes, as seems likely, I hope he proves me wrong and is a massive hit.
What I would say is that I do prefer him to Lallana as he will provide speed and goal-threat. I was hoping that Klopp would have a more worldwide view and not just repeat the previous failed raids on Southampton. We still need a LB and a CM, so hoping that once the jigsaw comes together, it functions a lot better than it currently sounds…Peace
June 27, 2016 at 7:16 pm #1081161I think we will see more than that come in davinci, Skrtel is very likely to leave and we would need to replace him. We need that left-back desperately and a central midfielder.
Then depending on departures we might even get another forward in. I think we would be good to go if all that happens.June 27, 2016 at 7:39 pm #1081185When we bought Lallana Southampton bought Mané for £11mil to replace him.
We could have got him ourselves as the transfer committee had recommended him to Rodgers who turned him down.
Now we’re bringing him in for £34mil and he could very well be taking Lallanas place.Weird how these things work out!
June 28, 2016 at 6:12 am #1082427Davinici, whilst I am with you and others in that Mane is not worth the money we are about to shell out, as I’ve said previously and you have in your post above, the important point is that he is an upgrade on Lallana. He is fast, direct and surely will get even more goals for us. I’m happy to get him but as you said will judge what I see on the pitch.
That said I do appreciate he is a little inconsistent ….
My point would be that I hope he isn’t our only attacking signing, whilst I appreciate that there are still other areas that need strengthening eg cm, left back, possibly CB, we still need another top attacking player for me (whether that is a striker or another person who can play behind will depend on his plans for selling Benteke / regularly playing Sturridge – if fit). We need more goals in the team and of Mane gets injured that leaves us with the same attacking support players who I don’t think are quite strong enough.
June 28, 2016 at 8:20 am #1082559Everyone always like the signing of an attacking player but currently we have Sturridge, Ings, Origi, Benteke for the striker positions and Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino, Mané, Markovic and Ibe for the 3 attacking positions behind.
Even if we do sell Benteke there really isn’t much room for another attacking player.
June 28, 2016 at 9:06 am #1082670Why does everyone keep banging on about the need to sign attacking players? Liverpool have been the top scorers in the premier league in 2016. We now have Mane, Ings and Markovic to add to that, it’s the other end of the pitch we need to worry about. If Zielinski does sign for us then I’d be happy if we only signed a left back and centre back (that’ll be 6 signings), there’s no need for anymore signings when we don’t have European football next season
June 28, 2016 at 10:34 am #1082886Zielinski is more of an attacking midfielder.
He’d prob play in the centre of the 3 behind the striker although he could form part of a 3 man midfield also.June 28, 2016 at 11:00 am #1082979Mane may be a bit inconsistent, but his stats are pretty decent, even better than Willian of Chelsea, a similar top winger, over the last 2 years i.e.
– Willian – Age 27, has 15 goals and 15 assists in 98 games
– Mane – Age 24, has 25 goals and 14 assists in 75 gamesAnd while he may be quite expensive (I thought 25m max would be more appropriate), if that is the going rate for a proven Premiership winger with goals and pace, what can you do? The alternative is to go for a cheaper winger, but whom exactly, and would they be as good or even available?
And speaking of cheaper wingers, I thought Victor Moses was quite a good winger, but look at how he under achieved when he came to Liverpool.
Of course you cannot judge a player on stats alone, but Mane was top scorer for Southampton last season, despite not being a striker, and is the player with the fastest hat-trick in history of the Premiership, surely that shows some quality?
Has Klopp seen something in Mane that some of us fans have not? Possibly, and I hope he is a massive success at Liverpool
