On the face of it,United seem to have got better value for money but people also said the same thing last year when we signed Firmino and they bought Depay, and I think it’s safe to say that Robbie had a better season. Mane has had a couple of seasons playing in the PL,and Mkhitaryan is new to English football. There’s no telling how well he will adapt to the PL. Both good players, but let’s reserve judgement until they’ve settled in,and we’ve seen them play over a consistent period of time. I like both players, and think they’ll improve their sides massively
June 30, 2016 at 9:42 am #1086285Why do they need to be compared?
June 30, 2016 at 9:59 am #1086321Aaahh. They still talk about football on this website??
I think both of these signings (assuming Mkhitaryan is actually signed by United) are perfect for their respective clubs. Liverpool are lacking raw pace and goal threat on the wings and United are lacking a proper creative playmaker.
As for Mkhitaryan being “untested” in the EPL. I have no doubt he can adapt just as well as De Bruyne did. That’s where his skill level is at, world class player in my view.
June 30, 2016 at 10:03 am #1086327You’ve compared the signings and then said let’s reserve judgement, makes no sense why compare those two? I think the Mane signing will be another example of Liverpool’s disastrous transfer policy
June 30, 2016 at 10:05 am #1086336Mane can be quality, who knows if he can settle in quickly? He has PL experience which should help.
Mkhitaryan is coming off a very successful season in Germany. Everything is new to him though, so it might be the following season til he shows if he is good enough. Di Maria and Kagawa arrived with glowing reputations and were disasters. In fact, Kagawa and Mkhitaryan are arriving in very similar circumstances. The Man Utd fans on here said Kagawa was the third or fourth best player in the world when he arrived. Now it’s Mkhitaryans game has no weaknesses. In reality all transfers are a risk and only Messi has no weaknesses. Time will tell!
June 30, 2016 at 10:12 am #1086360On that point of Liverpool’s policy Dandy – has anyone noticed the standard fee for a half decent player is 30million?? Xhaka (30mil), Mane (34mil), Bailly (30mil). Mkhitaryan is rumoured at 30mil despite being in the final year of his contract while Batshuayi will cost Chelsea about 30mil as well. The inflation of EPL transfer fees is insane.
Is 30 million the new 20 million??
June 30, 2016 at 10:19 am #1086384Hatters, all those players could flop horribly then 30m is the new, sold for 10m.
June 30, 2016 at 10:22 am #1086390Mkhitaryan is some player. Like mane, he can operate anywhere behind the striker.
Love watch Mkhitaryan play. Great eye for a pass and can finish.
Mane has pace and powerful. No idea how it is going to work out for either but if they play like they can then both will be a sucess. Id much rather have Mkhitaryan to be honest
June 30, 2016 at 10:34 am #1086435Good point Hatters. It offends my eyes to see clubs spunking 30m plus on players like Mane and Xhaka but that’s the current going rate and with the money floating around for English clubs it will only increase.
I’m not saying they aren’t good players but just not worth those prices.June 30, 2016 at 10:36 am #1086450prices are what they are due to TV money
Mkhitaryan the far better player and prospect though for me and wish we had got him at Arsenal….
June 30, 2016 at 10:45 am #1086489@sean the sailor. I agree with you mate. I am cautiously optimistic. Really hope we sign him because I believe he is on the level of De Bruyne, wicked final balls and set pieces, knows how to play the slide rule pass, very ambidextrous, and knows where the net is. I thought he was really good against Liverpool and Spurs in the Europa.
June 30, 2016 at 10:48 am #1086504As for the “English premium” for players. I think it’s best to just pay and move on these days. There are too many English clubs out there willing to just pay the quoted price instead of haggling and that pushes the prices further.
June 30, 2016 at 11:29 am #1086636How has Man Utd got the better value for money when Mkhitaryan was in the final year of his contract
June 30, 2016 at 2:35 pm #1087065S/T – We havent signed him yet, but you have already learnt how to spell Mkhitaryan?? Hmmm
Mkhitaryan is one of the smartest and most gifted midfielders in the world, the kind of world class player United starves for. 23 goals and got 25 assists last season. Hes a top top player, if he joins Man Utd we can afford to give away Mata, Young, Valencia and Lindgard……. for free. VAMOS Micki
As for £34m Mane, he can be brilliant on his day, BUT a) he’s a prima donna b) prone to diving at the slightest nudge, c) sulks if not in starting eleven d) sometimes late for training e) had a difficult relationship with Koeman. Good Luck to Klopp in handling this young man. P.S. Thanks for all the dosh
June 30, 2016 at 2:38 pm #1087080Looks like I found Suarezteeths’s and Shanky’s shared twitter account 😉
June 30, 2016 at 2:53 pm #1087122CM,to be fair,a lot can change in a year mate. That is unfortunately the fickleness of football supporters.
Martial: “Thanks for all the dosh”. Sorry,I assumed you were a United (or Liverpool) fan. R u now telling us you support Southampton? I’m confused…..
June 30, 2016 at 2:55 pm #1087125Ah ha the martial,it’s a horrible name to spell. He works hard aswell
Top player. I’m coming more around to mane.
What would utd fans think if they got pogba for 80m?Next yaya toure for me but could be even better. does money really matter to utd? They can spend what they want. price really only pops up if the player doesn’t succeed.
June 30, 2016 at 3:04 pm #1087152June 30, 2016 at 3:13 pm #1087194S/T – I meant ‘tosh’ for redwing80 comment. Hmmmmmm from Gotez to Mane for 34m. I thought Klopp was buying Leroy Sane, not Mane. I dont believe Klopp has been following Mane, I think he just watched a youtube compilation of fan tribute and decided on that. Come on Jurgen! This is LFC, European Royalty
Sean – Personally, I would be over the moon if we sign Pogba for £80 or even more. It makes me sick we let him go. Money is not a problem for both Utd and Liverpool (check the spending history for both clubs). The difference being Utd had PL trophies to show for it
June 30, 2016 at 3:20 pm #1087209@cm – LOL. absolutely brilliant. That made my day
