Our record in matches after European nights is poor. Take into account our last 2 recent performances/results and I’m very worried about the match this weekend.

I imagine our back 5 remains as normal with Migs, Clyne, Skrtel, Lovren, Moreno.
I was very surprised by the inclusion of Can last night as he’s been our best midfielder so far (Lucas?) so I thought we’d have kept him fresh for Sunday.
I imagine our midfield will be Lucas, Can and possibly Allen as he featured at the weekend but not last night.
That leaves the inconsistent Benteke to start up front with Coutinho and maybe Ibe or Lallana behind.

We need to grind out a win on Sunday.
1-0 will do it. If we can put in a performance too then brilliant but it’s all about the 3 points after playing away in Europe.
Considering the players are still not back from Sion, it’s gonna be tough.

I have a bad feeling about Sunday’s game. Pulis is going to come to Anfield to frustrate us, and it’s been evident that when teams do that, we struggle to break them down. We need to win this game after the Newcastle debacle. It just depends which team shows up, last week’s, or the one who battered Southampton

Yep, 3 points is needed, but I believe there’s no easy ride here.

Yet another game played on a Sunday – wowzers!

We’ve got to play 4-3-3, but I don’t really know where the goals will come from unless Benteke is supplied with service should he feature.

Coutinho hopefully will start for that much needed boost of creativity.

Ginger – I think Can played last night as he was suspended at the weekend so will be well rested, can’t see Allen playing as I think he will maybe fill in when Can or Lucas is out, think I would go with Lucas holding then 3 in front of him being Milner Coutinho and Lallana, then Firmino just off Benteke. I know Firmino hasn’t been great lately but with Coutinho back thern I would want them two and Lallana to provide the quick movement in and around the box, and Benteke to give the physical presence against a packed defence.

Pax- there was no need to risk Can last night at all, as I say he’s been one of our best midfielders. Played last night away in Sion, still not home yet and then having to play on Sunday is hardly the best prep.

Cannot see in any way Firmino starting Sunday. Setting aside he’s been poor the last 2 matches, he’s already started 2 matches this week, don’t see him starting another. Would be criminal to start him on Sunday. He has little to no understanding with Benteke either.

4-2-3-1 might be an idea but with a 3 of Ibe, Coutinho and Lallana behind Benteke. Ibe played no part last night so will be very fresh.

Ginger, Can had to play last night as he needed gametime after being suspended for the previous game.

We have to beat West Brom on Sunday, and at least we have 5 fresh outfield players to do so, namely Skirtel, Moreno, Coutinho, Ibe and Benteke.

I can see a 433 being used again with a front 3 of Ibe, Benteke and Coutinho, and a midfield of Lucas, Can and Milner. However the 4231 you suggest is quite potent if you have 2 good wingers, but I think Lallana will be rested having played the full game yesterday

Why did he need game time??
    He missed 1 game.
It’s not like he was suspended for a month or something.

    4-2-3-1 doesn’t need wingers.

Going to be a totally different set up from last night’s game, Again there will be changes to the side and We will be stronger against Albion, I think We will be in for a tough game as Pulis seems to set His sides up well against Us but I just feel that Coutinho could be the key to unlock them so Here’s Hoping.

Ginger – There is no problem in playing 3 games in a week, the issues come along when you have to play 9 games in 3 weeks or 12 in 4, even in the 13/14 season players most players played 3 in a week over Christmas when we didn’t have much more than a first 11.

Ginger, the point on wingers has it’s drums banged because there doesn’t appear to be a great deal of crosses in evidence supplied to the strikers.

And people like Benteke thrive on it.

Of course there’s a problem with playing 3 games in one week especially when there’s travel involved. Sport science reveals that.

    I said 4-2-3-1 doesn’t need wingers.

I think Klopp won’t be satisfied with two blanks from us in a week in terms of goals. I expect a tough game, but a thriller in which we will nick all three points & have Pulis jumping up & down on his hat on the technical area. Come on the Redmen 🙂

Ginger – sports science doesn’t show there is a problem in playing three games in a week, even with travelling, what it does show is that a problem develops when playing this many games over a prolonged period without getting rest.

Ginger, of course Can needs game time, he had not played since we beat Swansea almost 2 weeks ago, so he had to get some time on the pitch to warm up for Sunday. If he had stayed 2 weeks without playing he would not be as sharp.

As for 4231, I never said it has to have wingers, what I said is that it can be a potent formation when you have 2 good wingers. I have seen 4231 thrive with and without wingers, it all depends on the quality of the attacking 3

Correction, Can’s previous game was at Southampton, not Swansea.

And another thing, maybe he is not even starting on Sunday, maybe that is why Allen was left behind?

This game is a nailed in draw for me. They will do as most other teams have successfully done at Anfield & frustrate us.

Pax- sports science does indeed show that players playing in their 3rd game in a week, especially when travel is involved, perform at considerably less level.
A study was done which looked at 27,000 games.
Even without the science, without the study of 27,000 games, common sense tells you that a player who plays 3 games in a week, including travel will, and does, perform at lesser level in his 3rd game.

Song man- Can has been one of our best midfielders so I’m suggesting we should be keeping him for the most important matches such as the league and not dead duck matches v Sion.
He played last Wed night which was 9 days ago and then missed match on Sunday.
I’m sure over that short period of time he hasn’t lost either match fitness nor his ability on the pitch.

Ginger, where are the crosses going to come from?

Presumably, 1 either side of the 3 is supposedly supplying/providing width, so at Anfield, where is it?
