I think the one thing going for Matic is that Mourinho knows and obviously trusts him. Again though, surely one of the traits you want in a player who will prevent counter attacks is pace? Fabinho for me but I wouldn’t be too concerned if Fosu-Menash was given the chance instead.

Honestly, signing Matic ahead of Fabinho will be shocking to me as it will be with most United fans. I’ve never seen anything so obvious in a while, i’ve seen both play and in terms of passing range, movement, pace, Fabinho is a far better player. If Jose signs Matic ahead, it will only be because of his knowledge of him in the PL and maybe his physique.

As a fan i cant see any reason why we are even comparing both, however, this is one of those moments when you wonder what a manager is thinking. Its even more shocking because Jose usually buys well.

I understand where you are coming. Matic would be way down the list of targets I’d like us to sign. However, IF we sign Matic then we just have to trust Mourinho’s judgement.
For the record, I think Ed probably is negotiating for Matic… and Fabinho, and Matuidi and probably also somebody else the media are not reporting on, all with the view to signing one of them. I doubt Matic is top of Mourinho’s list

Do we know why some transfers are easy and can be done quickly whilst others drag and drag? That’s where the frustration comes from isn’t it? If every transfer took the same amount of time then I think we’d all be fine with that.
But how can we race into the market and snap up Lindelof but then go completely silent for weeks and weeks? Especially as we all know there are more players to come and “the list” has been common knowledge at United for months?

Obviously we never know what’s going on in the background but to give some examples, i reckon the Lindelöf deal was agreed months ago and re Perisic, I think Inter are holding out as long as possible in the hope somebody else comes in with a higher offer. Re Morata it could be delayed because of the uncertainty with Ronaldo but I think it’s more a case of Real holding out until we get close to their valuation of the player. Obviously if we have an offer rejected we can’t come back the next day with a higher offer or we will look desperate and Real will add another 10 million to their asking price.

Yeah agreed. Would be nice to just pay the asking prices and get the deals done asap though wouldn’t it?
