Don’t like him but Mayweather will walk it, McGregor has got half of his arsenal taken away. It is a joke really.

Totally agree Pax, although McGregor is a good boxer, he’s going to be in for a rude awakening methinks.

i don’t thik so myself and am really looking forward to this one, I imagine Mayweather will be his usual defensive boring self though, McGregor will show boat and if he does get caught….game over, that said if he can land on FM then its the same, think MC will surprise a few with his boxing ability

Part of me hopes you’re right Steveo. As personalities I much prefer the Irish man, but I prefer boxing to UFC, so i’m quite torn. It would be a huge shame if Mayweather is overly defensive though, although I do appreciate the art of hitting while not getting hit.

In the words of the great Oscar de la Hoya:

The contest is “a farce” and “a circus” and fears the impact it would have on the sport.

“My interest is in the health of boxing as a whole,” said De la Hoya, who won world titles in six different weight categories, in an open letter posted on Facebook.

“Floyd’s and Conor’s motivation is clear. It’s money. In fact, they don’t even pretend it’s not.

“When the fight ends up being the disaster that is predicted, afterwards neither of them will need [boxing] any more. Floyd will go back to retirement and Conor will go back to the UFC. It’s a win-win for them. It’s a lose-lose for us.

“If you thought Mayweather/Pacquiao was a black eye for our sport – a match-up between two of the best pound-for-pound fighters that simply didn’t deliver – just wait until the best boxer of a generation dismantles someone who has never boxed competitively at any level – amateur or professional.

“Our sport might not ever recover.”

Refreshing change of topic. Cannot wait for the fight. Mayweather is a boxing genius and probably the greatest defensive boxer ever. Conor hasn’t boxed properly since he was a teenager. He’s still waiting for the State of Nevada to issue his boxing license. The bookies will have Mayweather as a massive favourite and rightly so. Mayweather has been seriously hurt once only in all of his 49 pro fights. He still won the fight relatively easily thereafter. But, Conor is the bigger man who hits like a truck. He can put you to sleep with one blow. He is also incredibly unorthodox. He’s a southpaw and Mayweather finds it more difficult against southpaws. Conor is also ridiculously confident and has almost mythical levels of self belief. He’s also 27/28, Mayweather is 40. That age gap will be a factor especially if the fight goes in the latter stages. Conor is not only taking this fight for the insane payday it will net him…he honestly think he can win. Mayweather will probably be under more pressure as his legacy is at stake. How can he lose to a fighter who’s never had a pro boxing fight. Conor also closes distance incredibly quickly. He can switch stances at will and his unorthodox nature will give Mayweather additional factors to take into consideration. On the flipside how will Conor morph his multi disciplined fighting style into the solitary boxing? That will be a challenge. And he’ll be facing the most elusive fighter on the planet…probably ever. Conors hopes are based on him frustrating Floyd and catching him early. The longer the fight goes the less chance he has. However the fact that Floyd has agreed to fight him is a small victory already to the Irishman. Floyd usually fights who he wants, when he wants and at what purse he dictates. Not so this time. I cannot wait…..

Stuilse – Who knows whether he will be there or not, I suppose much of it depends on his media obligations, it doesn’t change the fact that pretty much the whole boxing world are calling it a farce. By the way McGragor was granted his boxing license by the California State Athletic Commission in December.

If you are all certain it will be a close thing you should be piling the money on 6/1 for McGregor, best of 1/7 for Mayweather. 6/1 is massive in a two horse race, that is Chelsea at home to Middlesbrough type odds.

Paxman…that’s California. I believe the fight will be in Las Vegas. He still needs the Nevada State commission to issue his boxing license before he can fight there. Just like he’ll need the New York State Commission to issue him a license should he choose to fight at MSG.

Just to add further, Conor has nothing to lose and will be seen as a winner irrespective of the outcome. Three possible outcomes are: Conor gets hammered…everyone expects him to, he gets paid ridiculous wedge, he goes back to the UFC and defends his lightweight title. No harm done to Conor or his brand. He will be respected for stepping in the ring with one of the all time greats. Outcome two: Mayweather still wins but it’s a fairly close affair. Heaven forbid there could be a rematch..imagine how much more money and interest will be generated. Outcome three…and the least likely, Conor wins. That would literally turn the boxing world on its head. Another thing, Mayweather wouldn’t dream of fighting Conor under MMA rules. That fight would end within a minute or two.

Mayweather will turn it into he usual zzzzz feast. Few jabs, run in circles for a couple of minutes followed by a few more jabs, followed by some holding.

May be a circus, but if you can get a piss easy 100 million, why not take it.

MUFC – You hit the nail on the head it is all about the money, sporting wise it is no more than a freak show.

As far as landing the jabs and then moving, that is the art of boxing, if you want to see a slug fest go watch a Rocky film 🙂

Guess you won’t be watching the freak show then Paxman. I mean who’d want to watch a freak show. Freaks themselves perhaps.

Utter joke to be honest, if Conner survives the first round it will because TMT is only taking it easy….

Off course, one lucky punch, cause that’s what it will be, means I’ll watch the highlights on Youtube…. 🙂

Banjo – With you on that, I might watch the highlights sometime but would not pay to view it, although I generally do for the proper boxing.

Still hope the Joshua vs Klitschko rematch will go ahead, now that is a fight to look forward to 🙂

‘Money’ is rightly the overwhelming favourite. Everyone expects him to humiliate Conor. But it’s a fight at the end of the day lads. Conor just needs to land one bomb. I reckon a few of us will be surprised. Can you imagine the press conferences and weigh ins!! Epic.
