CM, Costa play acting was disgusting and deserved some form of punishment. i agree with those who call action to be taken. as he was hitting the ground too easily.

Johnny Utah – That sort of challenge will happen time and time again and a player won’t be booked for it. It’ll happen to players who are already on a booking and the referee will give them a final warning. If referee’s are handing out 2nd yellows for challenges like that then players like Keane, Vieira, Batty, etc. would have never had the careers they had. I wonder what Dennis Wise thought of Hazard’s ‘antics’ last night.

Wise-fan – Care to respond to the rest of my post? Who agrees that the Utd players set out to injure Hazard? Conte?

Agree, Costa antics were a disgrace. Usually when players do that, they know referees are on their side 🙂

CM, you can’t say Costa has refs on his side. that is the last person you would allege a referee would like. he is a good striker but play acting will ruin his game.

Oliver had words with Jones and Smalling about Man Utd players constantly fouling Hazard. Herrara then fouls him again as soon as the game restarts and is nowhere near the ball. Hererra is an idiot and was asking to be sent off.

Yeah that’s the thing, he is a clever player, has gotten much more adept at picking his moments.
Its to be expected and Mourinho should have known better. Advised his players not to give Hazard any reason to fall down.
Chelsea simple are the best team in the league right now, I can’t see them losing until they have secured the title.

I hope this article will vindicate me !! and guess who have written it. Graham poll, a former referee who was one of United favourite referees. may be he agrees with me and with Michael Oliver right?

When you’re looking for vindication from the Daily Mail wisey you know you’re on thin ice. Oliver choked it last night, blatant yellows ignored for both sides throughout the game and ones given out for absolutely nothing. Having snide grasses in his ear like that six fingered Bolton knobhead Cahill didn’t help either.

Manthistle did you criticise fergie and ronaldo when they complained about the same treatment hazard got and ronaldo acted in the exact same way hazard did? Utd did set out to kick hazard?!

They planned to stop him anyway they could and this involved multiple fouls. When jones is given the warning for the foul immediately before the sending off you can see oliver warning him and gesturing about the continual fouls by utd players. He still should have treated the second yellow in isolation but he was fed up with the continual fouling on hazard as was hazard, all the chelsea players and fans alike. It was a utd tactic accept it.

Adriansmooth herrera’s first yellow wasnt a yellow?! What?! He intentionally bodychecked hazard, cynically, off the ball. If thats not a booking I dont know what is. The second one wouldnt have been that unfair a booking if it had been his first. Again he cynically brought hazard down to stop a dangerous situation.

I wish Ronaldo got as much protection as Hazard did by the refs 🙂

But we have to agree both Hazard and Ronaldo would not have survived during George Best days.

Wise-fan – have you read that article? Poll states that Herrera was correctly booked for ‘stupidity’. I’m sure you are aware that is utter nonsense (in relation to the laws of the games).

Persistent infringement is a yellow card offence, but it is at player level, not team level. Jones was clearly warned as he was in danger of being booked for it – hence Oliver speaking to him and Smalling. It was not a team warning (as he wouldn’t need Jones there, and there is no law for that). Therefore Herrera’s second has to be taken in isolation and there were many, many worse fouls not booked for yesterday.

Its not the reputation of the newspaper that matters. its the reputation and the profession of the writer. Graham Poll was a professional referee for a long time. he has refereed in every level of football. World cup, Euro, Champions league, Premier League. and he has backed Michael Oliver’s decision to send that United player off. full stop then. unless you are a professional referee or former referee, you can’t dismiss Graham Poll’s verdict.

When has a player been yellow carded for a team mates warning? If what Herrera did was a yellow card, then all the other little fouls were worthy of a yellow card. Oliver wanted to send out a message that he wanted these type of fouls to be stopped and he did not want to put up with them, yet minutes later he did not book Cahill for a foul.

CM – Poll actually said he was right to send Herrera off for being stupid (the word Poll used was stupidity). Wise-fan has just wasted all of our time as that is clearly a joke and not part of the laws of football.

Poll was a pro, but he also gave a player 3 yellow cards before realising he was meant to send him off. Refs usually back other refs whether they were ex professional refs or current. They will usually see a reason behind a sending off, majority of the time they will lean towards the ref was right and whether the decision was right or wrong is always up for debate. The fact remains, Oliver was inconsistent and has been throughout his career.
