Regarding Pochettino staying with the Spuds, I think it has to be attractive to a lot of managers to get the time to build their own team, but very few do. Any manager who wins the league deserves the plaudits he’ll get, but how much more satisfying must it be if he brought in every player in that team, specifically to fit his idea of the perfect balance?

There’s no question that Wenger could have left Arsenal many times, for a job at a bigger club and I like to think that a big part of that is his love for the club, but I’m sure the job security and freedom he has at Arsenal, allowing him to build his squad exactly how he wants, is a major attraction as well.

Obviously I’ve no idea what Poch’s ambitions are, but being at a club where decent transfer funds are available – and you know you won’t get sacked if you don’t win a trophy every season – has got to be appealing.

Al…Some very good points there with regards to managers being allowed the freedom to manage without the expectations of being “sacked” if glory isn’t served on a silver platter. I’m sure if Poncho keeps on the same trajectory as he is now, the likes of Madrid, Bayern et al will come knocking but as you say, he is on the cusp of something really special right now, would he want to lose that for a couple of years at a super club? I don’t think so, as mentioned, he has plenty of years ahead of him for pension “Top-ups”.

Just a random thought, I wonder if managers take the likes of Madrid that seriously when they are there? The pressure of expectation must be huge and can anyone remember a manager who has seen out his contract there? It’s never seemingly a question of if you’ll get the sack but when…..

It was a step up from Southampton to Spurs for Poch but Real or Barca or indeed United would be a massive step up for him and as Sean rightly pointed out despite doing a good job at Spurs he’s won nothing yet and Rodgers was similarly lauded the season of Liverpool’s title challenge so perhaps the end of next season will be a better time to truly judge him.

Pochettino needs to follow up on this year with another Challenge next season, he will not be able to get his message across somewhere else in one season, pressure would mount and it would be an uphill struggle from then on.

He needs to do the same as Kane, cement his reputation as a professional. It pays off not to lose your head and start thinking about your dream move. Right now Kane will be the target Real Madrid want and if Pochettino can keep this level up he will be able to step in any job out there.

I also think Spurs stand the best chance of winning the league next season, Leicester will struggle with both European and domnestic football. Spurs got the experience needed from the UEFA league. Everybody else will be rebuilding on some front.
