This was a dreadful match played out by two teams that are well below average in the Championship. There was no quality in evidence anywhere, particularly in our team. Forest at times seemed to pass the ball better and to have an extra man on the pitch. They could have easily taken home all three points. Our Plan A was to get Sáiz to run at their defence and hope that something falls out. There was no Plan B.

At least Forest had an excuse which led to the sacking of their Manager. Our Head Coach, and his assistants, have been in post for half a Season, and still there is no sign of any particular style or pattern of play to be seen. Which begs the question. What they do in between matches and what they see in some of the the players they keep selecting would be questions to which it would be good to get answers.

Some of our players deserve a special mention – I am so frustrated and angry. I have said this before but Eunan O’Kane should never be put in the team to play in front of the two centre-backs. Yesterday he had no clue on what to do or how to do it in the entire match. Laxslogger played the second half. This is a player who looks unfit and can’t compete in any way with the opposition defence, can’t head the ball, can’t lay it off, can’t pass it, can’t hold it up, can’t link up play and, unless it is at his feet in the penalty area, can’t shoot. He is apparently on exceptionally high wages at Hamburg and was almost a German International. He must be the worst German forward I have ever seen! Alioski put up yet another powder puff and ineffective performance and not looking at all ready to dig in and have a go in any way shape or form. Just does not look like someone who fancies it in the Championship. Hernandez was petulance personified. Finally, dear old Sacko who came on for the last quarter hour. Why for God’s sake? How can we win anything if we carry 2 or 3 passengers in each match Mr Cluelessen?

Oh Well. Away to Newport County in the 3rd Round of the Pointless Cup where everyone will put their reserve teams out. And it is on the Box. A true banana skin await and, of course, we deal very well with those – not. I am still smarting about Colchester United!

    Hi, Phoenix

Yes, my good friend. We’re still not out of the woods! The axe must fall on the deadwood and, sharp, sharp too!

That performance against Forest (like the preceding one) was dire in the mire. What frustration to endure at the start of the new year! What frustration for all the fellow faithful who braved the icy conditions! So many people are excited by the return of the multitudes to Elland Road this season; yet on how many occasions have the loyal supporters been exposed to limp and lifeless displays: Derby, Reading, Sheffield United…

TC’s problematic team selections (recall Birmingham) and tactics aside, the real problem lies in the painful reality that the the options in the rest of the squad are no better than those who are selected. Cibicki and Sackho, Grot and Lassoga the hamburger, Phillips and O’ Kane, Wielwald and Lonegan, Ayling and others: very little to differentiate between these players, the common denominator being Mediocrity. With the exception of Saiz and Pontus this lot is not to be trusted.

The teams, just outside the playoffs, are looking ominous. I will not be surprised at the next installment of deja vu! As a long suffering faithful, I must accept my lot and continue to dream. I’ll continue keeping the Faith, but Faith without works is dead.

    Lasogga the Hamburger ! LOL!

There are people that hanker still for the Play-offs and some thinking of even giddier heights. They really need to get a grip and do the math.

We are on 43 three points and need another 33 to surpass last season’s total by one point. Essentially win more 11 games this season. To get into the shake off for the Play Offs it needs at least a further 39 points but probably 42 points to be sure i.e. to win 14 more games this season.

Let’s accept that we are not catching Wolves.

Boys and Girls there are just 20 more games left in the season……….. At half way we have managed to win 13 games (out of 26) drawn 4 games and lost 9.

We can hope for fishes and loaves I suppose.

Oh, and let’s not forget that we still need a couple of points for me not to worry about “R”! 🙂

Personally, I am looking for progress. I believe that off the pitch there are good foundations being laid and on the side lines the faithful are slowly returning. As for the playing squad I have many reservations about Victor Orta and his recruitment track record so far. I do wonder what will happen in the next 3 weeks or so as regards the playing squad where there is so much mediocrity. Just imagine what we’d have if we really had something properly exciting on the pitch!

    Keep the Faith. WAL
