@GTID. My posts on this thread are defensive because I feel a great deal of relief now that van Gaal is out and all I can hear is the “voices of reason” on here raining on my parade.

Fair enough, we can discuss the issues around van Gaal’s sacking if need be but there can be no denial that there is a running narrative on here which basically is saying that Mourinho (if appointed) will destroy the club when absolutely nothing has happened. No appointment of van Gaal’s successor, no transfers in or out, no games played.

United fans have been frustrated for nearly 6 months now and now that the source of our frustration has been removed we are not allowed any catharsis before the doom mongers start telling us what lies around the corner. So yes, this is the reason for my defensive tone.

Have a look at your latest post GTID – I would say the 2nd and 4th paragraphs are somewhat fair while the others are a continuation of your doom mongering.

If only Beni knew, it is him who is attempting to wind up now.

Anyway 100% agree with Hatters at 1.25pm.

Well said Beni. I think (hope) this is just another temp appointment. Out of the frying pan and into the fire.

P.S. Beni, just to clarify, there was never any intention from myself to appear to dismiss anyone’s opinion so hopefully nobody felt that was the case. I was probably a bit over defensive. Still, it’s posts like “you Utd fans are all a bit special” and “the most dislikeable manager with the most dislikeable club-match made in heaven” which I should be better at just scrolling past! They’re clearly written with the sole intention of getting a reaction as I’m sure you’d agree

Hatters – “Whether it’s Mourinho or not you will have to support your team.” That’s a bit rich given some of the support or lack of on the Utd pages. A lot of posters wanted Utd to lose games this season!

Ok, apologies for the doom mongering. As you said, not a ball has been kicked yet so it’s all just speculation.

I will say this though. United are easily the biggest club in England and one of the biggest on earth. You have just come out of a lengthy period of sustained success, winning title after title, cup after cup AND winning with style, with an attacking philosophy and giving youth a chance to develop and shine.

You have the most supporters, the biggest stadium, the most profit making business model. You have every advantage over everybody else.

I’m not sure who defended the word ‘desperation’ earlier in this thread, it might have been you hatters. Well, desperation IS a negative word and it is a negative thing. If United step back a moment and look at their situation, they’ll realise there’s no need for desperation.

United can make the right hire. Somebody who would respectfully go about doing things the United way and inevitably achieve success doing it. It doesn’t have to be overnight success. Even the great Fergie needed plenty of time to achieve anything.

I know I said LVG had to go, but some of what he did wasn’t so bad. He decided on a style of football and he signed young players he thought would suit the system. Given more time, who knows what he might’ve gone on to do. His problem was the supporters and the media and I guess the board never believed in his system. It was too dull and failed to demonstrate potential for future success.

Maybe the next manager will take what he started and build on it and make it something more substantial.

Gtid, that was me. To be desperate is defined as having a great need or desire for something. If my club didn’t have a great need or a great desire for success, I’d be extremely disappointed. Clubs and sports people SHOULD be desperate to succeed. Otherwise, forever settle for mediocrity

number_seven, desperation is more commonly known as: ‘feeling or showing a hopeless sense that a situation is so bad as to be impossible to deal with’

Different ways to look at it I guess

GTID, absolutely! Hopefully it’s clear that it was indeed the former meaning I was aiming at. I think that may have come across in the way I wrote it but hopefully it’s clearer now…

    I wrote;

Just to clarify, I make no apologies at all for being desperate to win and nor should the club.

(Ie if you google the definition of the word “desperate”- which is the word I used- you’ll find my definition rather than yours. Not being pedantic. Just want to clarify which word I’m defending!)

@manthistle. I don’t get your point. The difference is van Gaal was in the job for almost 24 months and he lost most of the support on the United page about 18 months into that. I don’t see how “rich” can be directed at me.

I gave van Gaal a fair crack at the whip and I supported him for longer than most, so much so that the likes of Blacky and MacGuffin were quick to point out that I was wrong when I finally admitted he was not the man for the job.

When our next manager is appointed I will give that man the same support afforded to van Gaal until evidence tells me otherwise. I think that is a fair approach.

@GTID. Cheers mate, now we understand each other.

Hilarious to hear the chants of Jose Mourhino rising from the surreymen, rather makes you wonder what happened to that anti football guy of just a little while ago.
No wonder Giggsy is pissed , (if the jungle telegraph from Godalming is to be believed).
I have always had nothing but respect for Jose. Indeed his multi trophy winning Inter Milan squad was one of the best football teams I’ve seen… even with my obvious bias…
Indeed after their Champions League victory I expected Jose to take them on to try and rival the great Inter managerial names of the past maybe even Herrera himself but that’s not Jose.
He’s been on the decline ever since and the Mancs have got him well past his peak, anyway the idea of him managing Utd seems ludicrous, what on earth will the bloated sugar babies of Old Trafford make of what is an essentially defensive coach?
Attack attack, attack attack attack, or on the other hand???????

The funniest thing I’ve read today is a post here on the forums where a Utd fan manages to turn that most derided of footballing strategies that is perpetually attributed to Mourinho – parking the bus – into a positive attribute from which Utd can spring their super quick wing counter-attacks and therefore play the United way!!

Proof that the one-eyedness/hypocrisy of the average footy fan knows no bounds.

And just for all those that don’t know, Jose indeed did invent the bus term, but not by how he set his teams up. He actually first used it when talking about Spurs after a game at SB a few years back.

I think Jose will be a huge success at utd. Right man at the right moment but agree with ash.

Did I just read a your day of the day saying Jose is not a defensive manager and will have utd playing quick counter attacking football?

Come on.great appointment. Jose played super football in his first two seasons at Chelsea. It’s when he went all defensive that his teams became boring to watch.

In terms of morals, sportmanship and ego he’s perfect for United, a mirror image of SAF. He will need to change his playing style a little bit and try get back to some an attacking brand of football like he had Chelsea playing early in his first spell. Having said that, if he brings success I’m sure most United fans will cut him some slack.

The Utd fans turned initially against Van Gaal because his football was unwatchable. Now they’re appointing Mourinho ! The side that won the league a couple of years ago was the most negative, uninspiring, proactively cheating group of players I’ve ever seen. Mourinho cares only for collecting points, nothing else matters. Entertainment, sportsmanship, respect, forget it. Enjoy.
