Mr Evans, please play Lee Erwin against Wolves on Thursday evening.
December 16, 2015 at 7:50 am #741323Don’t hold your breath TSM.
Barn Door Woody will likely feature in the whole match being generally ineffective and squandering what few chances that come our way. Like my friend Wootton he will be in the side on merit apparently.
We can but hope.
December 16, 2015 at 4:11 pm #742340This is something I can never quite understand about some managers. They are blind to the bleeding obvious. Very few of them are bold and adventurous: like showing a willingness to try something exciting and different. Tomorrow’s line up, I suppose, will feature the same boring names, dishing up the same boring fare.
December 16, 2015 at 7:44 pm #742517My mind goes back to a certain Alan Smith making his debut at Liverpool and scoring. That is what I call giving it a go. How old was he – 18?
December 16, 2015 at 8:52 pm #742574Yeah, I remember that game so well! There was no looking back for young Smith from thereon …
December 17, 2015 at 10:15 pm #744842Deeply satisfying win, of course! The game swung in our favour when Mr Evans brought on Doukoura for Adeyemi. Doukoura slotted into a central midfield position and started to win balls and set up promising moves. The first fifteen minutes or so, of the second half, were probably the best I’ve seen us play in a long time. We were fluid and crisp in our movements and created very definite chances.
I’m afraid, Chris Wood is a donkey. He missed three sitters which would have clinched the game at that stage and spared us the agony of the last 10 minutes. Still no Lee Erwin.
Bring on Preston, come Sunday.
December 22, 2015 at 11:29 am #753307According to Windbag Evans, Lee Erwin is not yet fit!! And there is a thought about sending hem back to Scotland . To do what I wonder.
These comments just beggar belief. We are near the end of December for Gods sake. What can it be – the lad can’t or won’t get fit? What have LUFC been doing all season? Just how long does it take to get a player fit enough to be in the first team.
How often do the fans get treated like a bunch of mugs?
Merry Christmas!!
December 22, 2015 at 5:37 pm #754127Pheonix, I honestly think Erwin would be starting if Evans thought he was good and fit enough. If he was the answer to our striking problems Evans would have him starting, after all Evans job hinges on results. I trust the manager to make the right call most of the time and at the moment Wood is his choice. His finishing has been poor but I can see him going a run, he’s more than capable
December 22, 2015 at 8:58 pm #754421I wonder if Wood would play any better if everyone really got behind him for the whole 90 minutes instead of moaning or criticising every time he does something wrong? Just a thought
December 23, 2015 at 12:36 am #754721Appreciate your thought Neil.
Wood has been given ample time to prove himself; he’s been fluffing his lines far too often. What’s the problem, then? Stage fright or is the part too big for him?
Or am I just a hardened critic who leaves no turn unstoned?Three million pounds! This heart from Leeds bleeds.
December 23, 2015 at 8:59 am #754952The pragmatic way to look at this situation is to adopt the attitude that Neil suggests and to encourage the fella to do well which, I suppose, is easier whilst the team is picking up points. I am imagining that is what the Head Coach is up to. Stubborn streaks on the part of Managers / Head coaches are always hard to understand.
The fee for any player i guess is so much of a lottery.
The longer view however is that Wood is not well suited to the role into which he has been cast i.e. as the lone striker. Just imagine how different it would be if it was Tony Yeboah playing there with his pace and power but hey ho. Perhaps what is needed is that Wood should play as one of a pair as against Wolves when Doukara came on? What I don’t get is that Erwin does not even have a chance by coming on as a sub in the last 10 or 15 minutes to show what he can do.
December 23, 2015 at 9:13 am #754994Hello TSM
Perhaps the pressure of playing for Leeds United is just too much for Wood, but he has scored plenty of goals at previous clubs in the championship so there’s not much doubt that he is good enough at this level. Therefore, where does that added pressure come from?
I have seen previous players get stick and slated, leave the club and play well elsewhere. Bradley Johnson and Tom Lees are examples. I just feel that some people are too quick to moan and criticize, I understand that it is hard earned cash that fans part with to watch the team but I just think that if everybody got behind the team during the match the players would perform better.
December 23, 2015 at 9:19 pm #756239Okay, Neil, Phoenix, Dandy and others: I’ll lift up both me arms, gracefully, and give the lad a chance. Here’s hoping he sees off the year with a bang, bang!
January 18, 2016 at 3:14 pm #802283The saga continues! Wood is out injured and is apparently interesting Wolverhampton Wanderers. If they have money burning holes in their pockets from the Afobe sale, I for one would be happy for the club to at least get back the money they paid Leicester for him – so we can look for other ways to squander it.
As for Erwin, he is still warming the bench. In his shoes I might be wondering if I should be considering my options elsewhere.
Can’t say I understand any of this other than we will be lucky if we average a goal a game to the end of the season and will concede more than that amount.
January 18, 2016 at 5:26 pm #802628I was one of those who was very excited when we signed Evans, having read and heard that that the youngster showed promise in Scotland. To the best of my knowledge, he has only been given one substitute appearance (a few minutes late on).
I don’t know: Evans doesn’t see anything in him; he’s probably thinking, “he’s not my signing!”

January 21, 2016 at 2:43 pm #808511Actually TSM, I’m sure I read that Evans had been interested in Erwin when he was at Rotherham. That’s what makes it more perplexing!
January 21, 2016 at 4:20 pm #808751I’m scratching my head in bewilderment. The lad received promising reviews whilst in Scotland. He hasn’t even got as much as a look-in, except for a few paltry minutes in one of the games, earlier on.
I don’t know: but Evans is beginning to strike me as a bit of a stubborn fellow who is not too willing to listen to others. A kinda bull in china shop?
