I commented recently that if we were to bring in an extra striker in the January window (I wish we would!) , it would have to be a Brit. It occurred to me today though – what would people think about offloading Nasri in January and replacing with a striker? I can’t see anyone else leaving…

Agree Nasri is sadly surplus to requirements and I think he’s guessed that as well. He has scored some unforgettable goals though, League cup against Sunderland, the Chelsea winner, pivotal in the Ist Prem trophy and the Roma goal.
A fit Nasri would be fantastic, perhaps his best days are behind him and he’s treading water, plus the injuries must be taking a toll.
Which striker though, I did like Charlie Austin last year?

Austin would be a solid shout for “good enough but not so good he’d be unhappy as an Aguero sub”…..

Hi Dave… Nasri was replaced and essentially became history the minute we signed De Bruyne who is altogether a better football player as most of you already know! Sadly City rewarded Nasri with a very lucrative 5-year contract when we last won the league in 2014 which will no doubt turn out to be his ‘golden handshake’ as in 2019 he will be 31 and I seriously doubt in the meantime any other club out there would be willing to match his wages. If we really are serious about moving him on, perhaps the only option available is to ‘transfer’ him to NYCFC as he has expressed and interest in playing in the MLS.

Amusingly, having said Nasri’s the only one I could see going, the papers today have Demichelis back to Argentina in Jan. If that happened we’d have to replace him. Do we have a recall clause for Denayer? Nasri may fancy PSG/Monaco etc… But then last night’s horrific events may deter him. Delph does a totally different job to Nasri, Jim. And England looked significantly worse when he went off last night in my humble opinion – not that they were great before.

Dave..agree about Delp, thought he had a good game, Sterling had a nightmare, gave them second goal as well. It was a young England team, plenty of effort and gusto but zero composure and that was the difference

Dave yes I realise that they do a different job, but I don’t think it’s as different as you think. It’s not like Fernando and nasri. Delph has more strings to his bow imo. Cheers Jim

Fair enough Jim, no argument from me there.

sounds like a loan out more and more hey! I guess its lesson learned about those contracts, especially considering the performance last season! is Nasri’s legacy much more than Dzeko’s who most were happy to move on? ie a few big goals but not one to rely on week in week out. Good shout on one out and a striker in with urgency! Nasri concerns me as he is too public when not playing – more of a celebrity athlete . Charlie Austin looks like he has weight issues and isn’t much better than an Ings for example, thought he would be perfect for Newcastle, not sure if he is a suitable plan B off the bench (eg Liverpool and Lambert)

Still concerned about our injury record. Nasri gets too many although I like him as a player. Given our midfield strength I would be looking for a backup striker. Perhaps some sort of loan swap?
