I still think our management makes life difficult for the younger players. We can’t always turn to an out of form players or in the market when we have a problem. Masounda and all those young players we had last night could save us millions in transfer fees if they get the trust they want. Not turn to players who contribute less or nothing

At this point in time both Musonda and Willian are Chelsea players and I do not believe it is even debateable about which player is first choice in a big match. It will be Willian. Willian is about today and Musonda the future. Personally I would keep both and would never even consider one over the other. Musonda appears to be a potential gem, Willian will still be a major contributor to any success we have this season and is still in important asset. Sure, Musonda impresses me and Willian can frustrate from time to time BUT at this stage of their careers I would be loathe to compare them and then consider the value of one over the other. Certainly give Musonda more time to express himself on the pitch and develop by playing in the first team but, hey, it’s way to early to make such statements. If we are talking about the club having to release one over the other then, for the future, I agree. If that was the intention of the comment then fine but I am yet to read anything developing along those lines.

sooner or later we will have to use youth whether we like it or not and there are better youth players than Musonda who also deserve opportunities-his only one-next season Willian, Pedro, Cahill and one or two others will be gone as they are clearly in decline and Conte does not keep players that are losing it.

    MKM – cheers

I would say that our youth policy is starting to bear fruit and that the performances on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that they will all walk into the first team immediately but I think it does show that we can have some faith in them if we need to use them at any given time

Their performances plus the late buys in the market now provide a good impression that we have a very good strong squad and I still maintain that our starting 11 would compete with anyone

Assuming that players like Tammy improve while on loan then next season certainly looks as though we could promote a few more players from within. Fair play to Conte for the approach he is adopting and the trust he is showing – which is also done in the correct manner and time (IMO). KTBFFH

I agree with Chelsea1967 about Willian and Musonda. We can’t compare the two players especially at this stage of their career as one is the finished article and the other is still a raw talent. Despite his flaws Willian is one of the best players in our squad and we should appreciate his qualities rather than question his flaws. If any younger player deserves to be in the team, Conte said he wouldn’t hesitate to put him in the team.

CM – agree on Willian and feel he is unfairly maligned on here but accept we all see things differently. KTBFFH

I beg to disagree with your assessment about Willian and Musonda. Willian has been with us for 4 years and i haven’t seen anything to suggest that he is/was improving in those four seasons he has been with us. this is his fifth season at our first team, and he is already showing signs of decline. Mikel has been given a stick 24/7 for not improving since he was with us for more than 5 seasons. yet here people are giving excuses for Willian. i don’t see any difference between the two cases. if any Mikel wasn’t afforded a fair chance whilst Willian has been automatic starter throughout his Chelsea career apart from last season when Conte realised he contributes nothing and prefered him over Pedro. this season he is already been found out wanting, but because of the nature of Hazard injury he has started all our games par the Leicester one. and if you have anything he has contributed that i’m forgetting you are free to remind me.

WF – obviously you see the contribution of Willian in a different light to many posters – but not all

You also make a valid point about Mikel but personally I cannot see the comparison largely as they had differing roles. What about the season where Willian’s free kicks almost single handedly kept our season afloat…?

For me (and I know you disagree), Willian is a valuable member of the squad and I think the competition between him and Pedro is good for the squad and for then and keeps both fresh and competitive as there is virtually always a substitution between the 2 of them. However, they need to keep a close eye on Musonda as he is obviously doing well and will naturally be looking for regular games and their position would seem the most natural for him

Quite clever I think from Conte to introduce Musonda, so he gets games, but also to keep Willian and Pedro on their toes…? KTBFFH
