Pagan, pleasure and happy to continue 🙂 🙂

Just anwsering to mufc; with some sound and memorable choices 🙂

RS Turbo: Escort mainly; Sierra and Fiesta had a few and possibly the Capri. Escort Mk2 Popular RS Turbos were around in the early 80s.

XR3i: Escort; Sierra; Fiesta – lol killer on insurance though 😀 🙂

Fiestas: I’m after either a fully restored one or one that’s in good nick; ideally the 1:3 Supersport (white with red trim)

    Vauxhall Nova SRi and GSi
: yeah remember these in both black and white; always think to myself with the thoughts of “kitted out” and a very loud sub with BASS lol! 😀

    Anyone remember the Vauxhall Calibra?

Sure did along with the Vectra. I’m sure Calibre at the time brought Vauxhall to their very heights.

Smacked my first Beetle into the back of an XR3i (trying to change the tape, remember them?), I needed a new headlight and a respray on my bonnet, the XK3i, being made of plastic and sellotape was a write-off….

Banjo – I put my XR3I in a field one morning, it went through the hedge at such an angle I had scratches on the roof, but by some miracle not 1 dent, I had it towed home and it sat on my driveway for 2 weeks because it wouldn’t start, until my mums boyfriend told me about the fuel cut off switch beneath the spare wheel, pressed that and hey presto. First car I’d had with a fuel cut out 🙂

In the 90s when Maxpower magazine was around, use to feature Calibra engines which had been put into Vauxhall Novas.

mufc – Guilty as charged 🙂

The practice of putting big engines into smaller cars has been going on for ages, not sure about the Calibra / Nova one, but the old beetles used to fit a Porsche engine, you also had a time when lotus were making engines especially for cars that would normally be family cars. The Lotus Sunbeam, (Talbot) and Lotus Carlton (Vauxhall) are two of the top of my head.

Big engines in small cars, probably the first big example was the Shelby Cobra, the Lotus Cortina, early 60s was I think when it started with every day cars, and as Paxman says, the old VWs, both beetle and camper take Porsche engines, but then they were designed by Porsche.
As for home mods, Astra GTE engines and gearboxs fit into old minis, and I’ve see a MKI KA, with a cosworth engine and 4×4 set up in it…..Pagan

tape decks in the old days worse were the ones with no rewind function so if you really liked a song you had to forward to end of tape, eject turn around, fast forward, eject turn around then forward to the song again….and yes….yes i did do that though youd often end up at your destination before a relisten!
