Just finished watching the Under-21 match between Man U and Chelsea. Both clubs are blessed with young talents. The two academies are doing fantastic work judging from the performance of the two teams. Casey Palmer stood out on our side. It is imperative that pathway to first team must be made available for those make the grade as suggested by Gus Hiddink. The club will ultimately save a fortune on transfer fees.

Michael, I watched the game too and was very impressed with a number of Chelsea players but Kasey Palmer was the stand out player on the pitch across both sides and he was carrying an injury.

It was also a very strong United team with both Jones and Young starting and the majority having had first team experience too.

Interestingly Viveash suggested that the players closest to breaking into the first team squad were Christansen, Baker, Brown and Solanke when they return from loan assuming they have a good pre season under Conte and he may well be right but Palmer can’t be too far away with performances like that which will surely impress Conte.

lets face it we don’t need to flood the first team with youth products, but we do need a steady flow, it’s about showing there is a pathway, giving the players belief that if they show a little patience, determination and hard work they will be given an opportunity, If we don’t give them that belief there will be a big queue at the exit door….Pagan

from the little I have seen I also think Christansen, Baker, Brown and Solanke should be incorporated into the squad Palmer is only 17 I think? What about Abraham and Swift? lets also not forget that Loftus Cheek, Kennedy and a couple more are already in so in reality the squad will be very young overall. Expect a couple of new big and experienced names as well. Conte is a great choice but that does not mean he will find instant success in the toughest competition in the world.

RB, those first 4 are the ones most likely to break into the squad next season according to Viveash last night but there is a lot of quality coming through and Palmer who will be 20 in November based on last night looks a real prospect.

Pagan, your quote from ” it’s about showing…..given an opportunity” almost word for word is what Adi Viveash said last night. Cheers both 999

I only caught the second half of the game where we did not really hold the ball well but defended solidly (and according to the commentary I missed the half where Chelsea were dominant)

Overall, I thought we had a few decent players but these are the guys who should now go on loan to gain the experience that the likes of Christensen, Baker, Brown and Solanke have been getting

You have to assume that RLC, Traore and Kenedy will remain in the squad and get more game time next season so I would not expect more than a couple of those other names to be included and that largely could depend on what spaces there are in the squad

Don’t know how accurate the story is but at the weekend I read that Christensen would rather stay in Germany and play regularly than come back to Chelsea to predominantly warm a bench…?

Lets not forget that while Conte states he wants to play attacking football and is happy to blood a few youngsters he will also be under extreme pressure to deliver something and I suspect that CL football will be top of that agenda…..KTBFFH

I saw the game and was impressed by Palmer too. Last year he seemed a player who did little for 89 minutes then did something outstanding. This season he does seem to have improved his contribution and may be a player who should go to Vitesse next season for a polish. Generally I did not think this was one of our more promising teams, though the center-backs were excellent. Tammy Abraham does not seem quite as devastating this season. We were also missing Jay DaSilva who shows enormas promise at left back.

alanp – you could see that Abraham had talent and I thought he tried to hold the ball up well, but as I said earlier I only saw the second half when we were more under the cosh. Looks like a promising kid who needs to gain more experience out of loan in a more competitive league just to gain the experience. KTBFFH

Agree with that 1905, Abrahams just looks to have lost a little something this season, it happens with youngsters – may relate to Solanke not being around to share the load.

The Daily Mail are today running a story that Solanke has turned down a new comtract, let’s hope he’s just angling for a better deal for himself here rather than starting a queue at the exit door….Pagan

Pagan, worrying but understandable. Let’s hope that Solanke can be talked around.

….perhaps the only thing that might change Solanke’s views on all this are some assurances from Conte re real game time next season and his inclusion in the first team squad???

999, can’t see a manager who hasn’t seen a player play guarantee him playing time. Right now the best career path for youngsters is away from their current club, and that’s not just Chelsea…Pagan

Pagan, agreed, but I was thinking that Conte would see Solanke for pre season in the summer and hopefully the Champions Tournament in the US and assuming he liked what he saw Solanke would have a chance of being one of the 4 strikers we are likely to need if we play the way it’s being rumoured with 2 strikers up front.

Viveash suggested that Solanke would be one of the most likely youngsters to break through to the first team squad next season when he returned from his loan.

Solanke is very well thought of at the club and has been at Chelsea since he was 8 so it would be a shame to lose him but these things happen even to Barca. Time will tell. Cheers 999
