Manuel Pellegrini found it ‘difficult to understand’ Manchester City’s disastrous display in their 4-1 loss to Liverpool at Etihad Stadium.

We vannot re write the game now but it is yet another lesson, the third this season, we have not learned from. That must stop or bring in players that can do it

His press conference was a joke – he’d pick the same 11 and formation again – well we already know that as he fails to learn when he gets it completely wrong. 4-4-2 in every game in last seasons champions league and the thought of playing a second string untested back 4 with Fernando and Yaya to protect against a decent, youthful and skilful 5 man Liverpool midfield was nothing short of arrogant.

While everyone is entitled to their opinion of Pellegrini, we are not privileged to what went on before the match, leading to the team selection on Saturday but MP and his coaching team are not fools and are well aware that their own well paid jobs are dependant on results. Anyone watching Tunnel Cam will see that the players seemed happy and relaxed on coming out onto the field before it all went wrong. I don’t agree that the team selected was an untested second string, they were all experienced but were outwitted and outplayed so must share the blame.

Good post citified….but I would add…we had not one leader on the pitch and a holding player who does a job but we need a more aggressive player in that position, DeJong type

Almost every post I make comes back to the lack of defensive midfield. We still dont have anybody good enough to protect the back 4.
I really believe this is our missing link and Achilles heel.
Fernando is not the answer and the other Ferna is better going forward.
