So now VVD has refused to play for Southampton, having only just signed a very lucrative 6 year deal. As much as I don’t want any player at my club that doesn’t wish to be there, surely there comes a point when clubs make a stand. And before anyone starts saying that it works both ways and the club can sell him at any point, that normally only happens if the player totally loses form, therefore his own fault, or a silly offer comes in because he is playing really well. And even then the player has the final say on whether he moves. Clubs need some protection for their investments, and in particular from greedy agents looking to cash in on their ‘product’. It has always amazed me that a player employs an agent to act on his behalf, yet doesn’t pay the agents wages. How the hell did this come about. Clubs should refuse point blank to pay these agents, and then I wonder how often we will see players scheming for a move. The figures being banded about for agents beggars belief. I dont know how agents get away with it legally. I know it ended in a bit of a mess, but im glad JP kept SB at the club to honour his contract, because someone has to make a stand. But alas in the greedy bloated world of football, the £ or $ is king. Im waiting for the day that the SKY / BT bubble bursts, because a lot of clubs are going to be in a whole world of trouble financially.

The inmates running the asylum…the tail wagging the dog. It’s insanity.
