happy – I agree its blown out of proportion. Where”s the news in Rooney pissed at a party till 5am. Therein lies part of the problem. It was NOT a few drinks. It is NOT one night. This unprofessional conduct is
commonplace for footballers in and for Rooney.

There were no extenuating circumstances, there was no cause for celebration. Its not as if it England had won a trophy or it was a relatives wedding.

On the contrary, there is every reason why Rooney should not have drunk to excess. He is on England duty and is captain. He knows conduct unbecoming is frowned on. He knows he will be photographed. He is fighting to regain his club and country place. I doubt coaches and physios recommend late nights and getting plastered as part of a fitness regime. Imagine he had fallen down the stairs drunk and broken his leg. I bet the insurance company would have loved that.

It does not matter whether you think he is a role model. I bet his contracts with England, United and sponsors has clauses about behaviour.

Had he been playing like Bestie in his prime it could be ignored. But he is not. He plays as if he is pissed or suffering from hangover.

He should be moved on not because he got pissed but because he plays piss poor.

The reason YOU gave for keeping him was for him to be “role model” in the changing room. Rooney is not the sort of role model the club needs. Roy of the Rovers he is not and he’s a far cry from a Roy Keane.

I have to agree with the lads here. You said it yourself a few days ago, that we should keep Rooney on because the example he sets for the younger players. If a young Keane or Robbo arrived today, it would be them who would be giving Rooney a bollocking.

CM – Yeah, i take your point. But I don’t think him getting pissed somehow takes away the influence he has in the dressing room does it? Don’t forget that Roy Keane used to turn up for pre-season training 2 stone over weight because he’d spent the summer lashed up and eating kebabs in Cork.

Blacky – That is a fantastic Avatar! Ha ha!

If you think its ok behavior by your hero your beyond help mate.

I trust Fergie on this one. Do you remember when Rooney and your other plonker Evans turned up drunk to a training session and were sent home straight away by Fergie?
    Rolemodels,right?

That is true in regards to Keane, but he buckled down and made sure he was fit for the season. The club is currently a 3rd in to the season.

@happyhurling. I can see you performing impressive feats of mental gymnastics to defend what Rooney has done here.

The fact is that at this moment in the club’s history, in Rooney’s career, and in a crucial part of the season. What he has done is purely cretinous. Not only has he got pissed a few days before the Arsenal game when we are without Ibrahimovic and in dire need of his “experience”, he also has got himself photographed in his drunken stupor.

All he has done is perpetuate the joke status of this club and create more trouble for his under pressure manager.

I don’t care if Darron Gibson, Gascoigne, Arturo Vidal, or jm1502 also like to get pissed. That’s besides the point. The point is that this club is currently in dire straits and needs players with their balls screwed on tight for a serious challenge. Just as Mourinho tries to send out a rallying call to get his soldiers ready for battle his captain and “talisman” is paralytic at 5am in front of the media – perfect timing.

Rooney must be sold. He is as poisonous to this club as Ronaldinho was at Barcelona just before Guardiola removed him, difference is Ronaldinho is possibly the most gifted player ever to live while Rooney is built like a boxer.

    Rooney is a fool.

Should be buckling down to reclaim his club place. Needs better people around him (off field) but he should know better at his age.

Rooney is completely and absolutely out of shape and his behaviour was completely and absolutely out of order, and whoever says that he is a naturally big person is a fool. Yes, Rooney has a stocky physique but that doesn’t mean that he should struggle to keep his weight under control.
With exercise and a proper diet a person’s metabolism can be sped up and it shouldn’t be a problem for Wayne to keep his weight under control. At this point of the season, if he’s overweight then it’s because he is neither eating, drinking nor training properly and that is indefensible.
A captain should not practice a do what I say, not what I do approach. A captain should be an example, and in his current state Rooney is a piss(ed) poor example for younger players.

A very close friend of Wayne, who plays for Real, and is 8 months older than Wayne keeps his body in perfect shape with healthy eating,non-alcoholic drinks,no soft drinks, no smoking, performing a daily 3000 press ups in front of the tv and all that apart and besides the normal training with his club.

At least happy got a supporter,Herr Klopp of all people.Would be nice of Herr Klopp if his thoughts for Rooney would be the same if it was his Coutinho for example, who did the same as Wayne. And people in glass houses,?

At nearly 32 yrs of age,Cristiano has just signed a 4-year contract with real at 24 mill/year in wages alone and as a desert, he also signed a lifetime sponsorship which will ensure CR7 will be the first football player billionaire.

And over here we have happy getting pissed because everyone else is saying Rooney was ‘sh,,, pissed’.

ALFIE was straight to the point when he said that Rooney was a fool for his behavior. And so are people who say otherwise.
Upholding the dressing room fraternity and camaraderie my foot.

Herr Klopp and Her happy, Role image for whom, his kids ?

A very good read on the Guardian,[not for happy],Nights out aside, Wayne Rooney is not fit enough for Southgate’s England

hatters – Excellent post my friend. But I fear that Rooney has too much wind in his sales meaning a multitude of ‘friends’ and it will not be easy to make him walk the plank him away just like that.

It would have been easier if both the FA and the club took a different view of what happened.

Both entities either with or without having their say have more or less doungraded

Killyboye – I’m not defending Rooney, I’m just highlighting that he has to work harder than others to stay in shape. That’s a sacrifice he should be making. Some people are naturally thin, some people are naturally fat. It’s the way of the world. Those who are naturally thin have to work harder than others to bulk up for example.

At the end of the day I don’t think Rooney’s fitness has ever been an issue. It’s his footballing ability that’s in question. He doesn’t looked shattered after a game as far as I can remember. His sharpness isn’t what it should be though.

@manthistle No one is naturally fat, that’s a myth. Diet, exercise etc control your metabolism, not genetics. I’m saying this as someone who is not thin but I know it’s my fault. I’m not blaming my build, or my father and mother. It’s because I eat shit food and don’t exercise properly. He may have a build that makes him LOOK heavier than he is, but he is not now or ever was naturally fat.
