the new managers job is to keep us in the prem .

how is that going to happen?

    1. three teams worse than us .

    2. a very big improvement of current players.

    3. critical signings in january window ?

    4. successful tactics.

    5. a lot of luck .

i think its all a very big ask.

Is his job to keep us in the Premier league? I think his job is to put the foundations in place for a long term strategy that means we are not in this situation year on year.. if we go down this year is that a complete disaster? We could have gone for a Pearson type, but sooner or later we would be back in exactly the same situation.. fighting relegation, fans moaning and playing negative football.

I hope your not a fan that is already getting on the back of our new manager? Seems to me you have set one target and if we get relegated then he has failed. I do not believe this to be the case.. lets forget short termism and have a long term strategy, that gets us playing progressive attacking football that is competitive..(and eventually in the Prem league) will this happen in 6 months.. ? I doubt very much.. is relegation a real possibility? Of course, but that would have been the case whoever came in.. lets not firefight, lets ensure a fire never happenes again!

i dont think the owners want relegation and the huge loss of tv money .

i always give new managers at least a year .

i think we will go down , possibly then lerner will sell at a sensible price, hopefully to owners who will invest properly .

If you give the manager a Year, what would success in 1 year look like?
Is staying in Premier league paramount to your view on him being sucessfull?

Pool fan here jimmy. I have to agree with you that it is a long term solution that is needed, not just a quick fix to stay in the Prem for 1 more year. None of us ever want to see our team relegated, but just occasionally it might turn out to be the best thing that could happen. Rebuilding the team from scratch without having to pay over the odds for “Prem quality” players, and actually bringing in or promoting players who really want to play for the club, not just collect a wage packet. I would love to see an AV team back challenging again but it may well take a while, and some pain, before that happens.

i was in effect saying im not getting on the back of any new manager .

it would be possible to have a long term solution AND stay in the prem , however i dont think we will achieve either under lerner , whose record has been abysmal , on top of that he wants out , causing limbo and poor morale which is not good for the players , management or fans .

i am actually enjoying watching ex villa players milner , benteke and albrighton.

Lerner spent nearly £50million in the summer, if he was simply trying to make money on players he would have pocketed all that he made on Delph and Benteke.. we need to stop the doom and gloom and simply blame the owner.. the club was not for sale the year before and spent less than this year when it was.. poor management and a lack of a long term plan has been our biggest issue and of course Lerner plays a large part in that..
@Forcefiled, completly agree.. but in this age of instant gratification I doubt many villa fans will accept this..

Good luck with the new manager but what else do you need to ensure that you avoid the drop this season?

not the greatest of choices no experience in the premiership,he will struggle ,he may succeed but i doubt it,the board should have made more effort to get moyes instead of tom fox putting his faith in what wenger says

i am impressed with garde’s stance on use of english .

i prefer french as a language but realistically there has to be a common language over the entire operation which means english .

its noticeable that benteke now speaks pretty well .
