Hopefully the turnaround in form of Son at the end of last season/start of this season will encourage fans to have longer memories and also to be patient with players.

So many players can have an unimpressive season but it does not mean they are suddenly terrible players. Vertonghen and Dembele both had poor seasons a couple of years ago but fortunately we persisted with them. Chadli was excellent before last season and I dare say will show his quality again (you don’t get consistently picked for that Belgium squad unless you are a talen – well, or unless you are Fellaini!!). Look at the likes of Walcott and Costa too.

I guess my point is that this year it could be the turn of Erkisen, Alli or Dier to fail to hit the heights of last year and I just want fans to remember more than the past 5 games when judging a player. Easier said than done I guess.

Hey Sands nice to see you back posting my friend.

You make a good point regarding Son. I have to admit that I pretty much had written him off as a starting eleven prospect. Too lightweight, too slow and prone to panic in front of goal. Goes to show how much I know eh? Indeed to be honest I’m still not totally convinced as a couple of the games he’s scored in he didn’t, imho, play particularly well. That said, even I can see the new found confidence flowing through him and am certainly now inclined to believe he will indeed go from strength to strength and become a key member of the team…just wish he’d get the shot off a bit quicker on occasion…

    Cheers Sands.

    Cheers Bloggs. Decent points too.

In truth I freely admit I know nothing about football (I still think Juande Ramos should have been given more time… ahem)! What I try and do is reserve judgement for as long as possible to give players time to prove their worth and that is why I get frustrated with other fans.

At the CL game vs Monaco the guys behind me were slagging off Eriksen after 10 minutes and then singing his name when he was lining up a freekick. Then back to slagging him off when it went over.

I read an interesting paragraph in The Secret Footballer’s latest book where he said he never fails to be amazed at how some fans can watch football every week for their whole lives and still know absolutely nothing about the game!

Very good point Sands.Sometimes we fans are far too impatient with new players. The worst example of this syndrome in fact was our very own Harry Kane! I fear that unless Janssen gets off the mark soon, he will get the same treatment. Its a good job we have a manager who sees the “big picture” eh?
    Cheers

Have to say I’m really please he has hit some form but I think he is a player who doesn’t have a great first-touch. Keep proving me wrong my Son

The Son is shining and it’s great to see. Never complained during last season. I’m excited to see his partnership with Kane when he returns from injury.

The scary news is the mandatory military service, although there are exceptions it doesn’t look like he will be able to fulfil them. Clearly Son does not wish to do this and it’s obviously not in the clubs interest so I wonder what action legally could we take if he were to go? Compensation from South Korea? He would have no resell value with an impending departure. Hopefully Levy will have a few noses who will go digging and get Son out of this.
