This squad is better but I think the presence of Suarez may just sway the better first 11 to the 13/14. Not by a lot, if at all, it’s a tough call!

I disagree that under Klopp we would have had Suarez as a lone front man, I think Klopp would have employed Sturridge where Mane is playing, Suarez, for Firmino, and Sterling for Coutinho, with Coutinho where Lallana plays. Which is pretty similar to how Rodgers played it. Under Klopp though the three up top as we have seen have more licence in interchange giving defences no clue who is coming from where.

Oh and also completely agree far better squad at the moment and the defence has improved, but as far as midfield and attack goes,

    Mane – Firmino – Countinho – Lallana – Henderson – wijnaldum
    Sturridge – Suarez – Sterling – Countinho – Gerrard – Allen/Lucas

I think Rodgers front 6 were slightly better in term of sheer quality, which makes it even more amazing what Klopp is getting out of these.

Sorry to be boring but I think this is very hard to compare actually… Rodgers played with two strikers regularly whilst klopp sometimes plays with none. Also I remember Coutinho was very much a hit and miss back then, whereas now he is more consistent. Mane is definitely an upgrade on Sterling, but was old Sturridge a better striker than current Firminio? Also dont forget we had Gerrard in his limited role with Henderson protecting him. Whilst we have lost the technical benefits of Gerrard, Henderson doesn’t have to physically protect anybody now as he had to then. What I’m trying to say is that as others have mentioned, I agree that overall we have a better balanced squad, but we have two different setups…the attack and defense we have now works for the players we have. Maybe if we score more goals and let less goals in can we say for sure that this team is better or worse.

Let’s not forget how great we were then, Suarez was ridiculous and would still be the best player on the pitch. Sturridge and sterling in the form of their life, Gerrard pulling the strings and producing great set pieces. Henderson is slightly better now but not that much better. Coutinho has improved, for sure. Both defences on the whole, shaky.

If the two teams played today both on top form I’d go for a 4-4 draw. Suarez man of the match.

To me, I think we are better equipped this time around, not making any hasty predictions though.

First, and maybe foremost, we have a seasoned and proven manager capable of managing the situations ahead. He has assembled and nurtured a more balanced side than we had in 2013/14.

To me the current team is far better set up by Klopp. Also as he stated himself: “He would rather lose a game KNOWING WHY, instead of winning a game WITHOUT KNOWING WHY” … which was very much the case during BR.

I would say that the drive behind the 2013/14 season was Luis Suarez – he was THAT GOOD that he lifted and spirited others to perform as well. Gerrard flourished for a last time, Sturridge delivered … but we will never win the league conceding over 50 goals – and this is my only concern now also.
