Fair play to Celtic they worked their socks off against City, and can be proud of that performance.
But there are 6 English teams with a higher UEFA coefficient… Then add Leicester the champions to that list, and it realistically puts them 8th at best.
I think Celtic would be lucky to finish 10th. Where do you think they’d finish in the PL?
Good to see Rodgers hasn’t changed though!
September 30, 2016 at 8:26 am #1248210these days they would be a mid table team at best but maybe after a few years and the serious cash they would easily break top for regularly with what they have to work with and play against its about as good as they can do over a season at the present IMHO
September 30, 2016 at 8:33 am #1248225Celtic are a Championship standard club and would struggle in the PL but its a mute point anyway because they wont be given an opportunity to play in the PL
Rodgers has always had a great ability to spout complete nonsense.
September 30, 2016 at 8:36 am #1248228You gotta admire his character though nine.
September 30, 2016 at 9:16 am #1248330Great fans at Celtic, I noted this week they raised over £100,000 for Palestinian charities after the baffling and bull**it decision by Uefa to fine the club 10,000 Euro for flying Palestinian flags at a euro match against some Israeli 11.
Uefa called them ‘illicit banners’ or some such crap. How can a national flag be ‘illicit’?
Such total nonsense.
You’d think the world would be celebrating people putting their hands in their pockets to help Muslims but of course by the double standards employed in the west Palestinians don’t seem to be Muslims the way other people are.
More sad illogical sh*t. But good on yer Celtic fans.
Needless to say the national media missed this one hmmmmm makes you think don’t it?September 30, 2016 at 9:24 am #1248348I’d have no problem with Rangers/Celtic in the Prem to be honest, but would think they would have to start a division or two lower (or just expand it to 22 teams?).
Don’t think Top 6, not for a year or two, but both clubs would have the potential to get there, why not?
September 30, 2016 at 9:32 am #1248366I think it was too easy a soundbite for Rodgers to say “Top four or top six” – I think realistically he must know that is a very ambitious assessment.
Yes Celtic would receive more money and be able to compete at a higher level but they have a long way to go before they can compete with the top English teams on a consistent basis. Top six teams are arguably Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool. Does Rodgers really think Celtic can build enough resources to compete with them year in, year out?
I dare say the “Deluded Brendan” twitter page is about to be resurrected.
September 30, 2016 at 9:40 am #1248390It will never happen it would open up a a complete can of worms with the individual FA’s and they and UEFA would never sanction it.
You can’t have different clubs from different countries jumping out of their national leagues just because the grass now looks greener on the other side of the fence.
September 30, 2016 at 9:43 am #1248393Someone should tell Swansea Cardiff etc about the impossibility of performing against teams from another country. They should be performing against Rhyll and all points Welsh surely?
September 30, 2016 at 9:58 am #1248426I think England should play in the African Cup of Nations.
September 30, 2016 at 9:58 am #1248429Celtic would be relegated if they were in the Prem. Only thing that would save them could be the home support but if its not a special night like the CL the fan’s wouldn’t be “up for it” every league game. Long away trips every other week too.
September 30, 2016 at 10:00 am #1248435Yeah just send them here if they keep winning their league. PSG, Bayern and Shamrock Rovers next please
September 30, 2016 at 10:33 am #1248513Maybe we should invite Bayern etc.. start the European league on our terms… that would annoy UEFA no end! Not the Milan clubs though, mainly to annoy Knotter…. 🙂
September 30, 2016 at 11:20 am #1248591@tom182, Shamrock Rovers haven’t won the League of Ireland in ages, 2011 I think. It’d be Dundalk you’d be wanting. Although they’d prob struggle at Championship level on a weekly basis, they can up their game for Europa League as they’re only being challenged by Cork City in Ireland at the moment.
Celtic would be a mid-table team in the PL for the first year or two, if not more. However, they have a massive international fan base who would bring in the money necessary to make them competitors in the long term, ultimately they’d be challenging for the top 6 at least on a yearly basis.September 30, 2016 at 11:47 am #1248669Yeah you’ve got a point there killboye, good post actually I read it twice, though I disagree about the celtic part
Suffice to say, Dundalk have performed splendidly in the EL so far
September 30, 2016 at 12:09 pm #1248705Tom,
We have to have disagreements, what would we talk about if everyone.agreed about everythingSeptember 30, 2016 at 1:33 pm #1248825Deluded Brendan is still putting out some quality material. Almost as good as the real Brendan
September 30, 2016 at 1:55 pm #1248888Celtic have the infrastructure and fan base to be a decent sized club in the Prem but there’s no place in England for that sort of bigotry in football. Football is supposed to unite not divide. If they were even given a free pass into any professional football league in England that would be the day i stopped following football
September 30, 2016 at 2:53 pm #1248969Yes knotter, these same glorious Celtic fans have also raised money for the IRA. Still, I suppose they are helping middle eastern terrorists so at least they are consistent.
September 30, 2016 at 2:58 pm #1248972Spot on dandy. Could you imagine that horde going to away games in the Prem? Not going to happen and rightly so.
