Brendan Rodgers says Liverpool’s transfer business has been focused on turning a profit rather than improving the team no matter what.

Funny, cause I don’t see us making a profit ever on either of Lallana, Markovic or Lovren, who cost 65m in total

This was Klopp’s philosophy and it got him success at Dortmund. Bottom line is that ideas have to match

What does Rodgers know about winning trophies? He’s never won one before

We won’t stand for mediocre performances nor league table positions that otherwise suggests a midtable outfit.

He’s right, but we all already knew that. FSG are here to make a profit, they are a business. They are so much better than Hicks and Gillette but they will never make us a force again the way Chelsea, City or PSG owners have. They will sell us and I hope it is sooner rather than later because despite the fact I do not dislike them I also know they will never bring us to where we all want to be. We have a great opportunity to build with Klopp but, as with all recent decent opportunities, I’m afraid it will be pissed against the wall.

Thank you Brendan Rogers for officially outing what FSG are all about. It’s not about winning, but making money. Now the explanation for sacking Dalglish after a successful second spell on the excuse of not qualifying for the champions league quickly enough is explained. Ignoring the availability of Benitez upon sacking Dalglish is explained. In hiring Brendan & giving him the opportunity to manage a huge club they knew they had a manager who would accept the conditions placed upon him. Now those conditions are clearly placed upon Jurgen. FSG need a rethink because we might have been better off had Peter Lim’s bid not been ignored & Purslow’s comment “bottom of the barrel” deal means there may well have been oil rich buyers that were ignored in favour of FSG. When you’re a desperate supporter & your club is heading towards non-existence you don’t ask a lot of questions, you’re only grateful at the club being saved but there will always be the unanswered question that only Purslow & Martin Broughton will have the answer to, who else was willing to save the club & might they have been as rich & generous as the owners of City? We are not in a bad position financially, but the club was not sold to sacrifice success on the pitch. It was sold to continue at the level we had on the pitch then while a state of the art new stadium was to be built alongside the old one. We have got what we want sort of & are fighting to recover on the pitch, but I wonder whether FSG are just here to get the stadium built & then sell on, possibly to one of the other bidders Martin Broughton rejected in favour of them in the first place? It’s a shame things weren’t more transparent to the supporters back then. We have not done badly under FSG, but that doesn’t mean we could not have done better or even worse. The ticketting has brought the profit aspect to a head & it’s a good thing because now it must be discussed & perhaps the air can be cleared to find the right way forward as a club with supporters not customers who are there to be fleeced.

Rodgers is spot on here. To see all the barbs in the posts above. . whatever I guess, it’s your business but he’s indirectly saying that FSG are wrong for Liverpool and it’s an opinion that I am starting to really come around to.

That said, FSG stabilised us after the H & G disaster. They’ve helped increase the value of the club and even though some of it would have happened anyway as the PL TV revenue has gone up loads, they’ve done a decent job at developing the financial foundations. That said, they are just business guys and maybe it”s time we had some people in charge who cared more about the results end of things. the kind of people who think that a rocking Anfield atmosphere is worth more than £5m a year in revenue.

What I want to know is,what is FSG’s aim for the FOOTBALL side of the club each season? We know all about the fact that they want a well run, sustainable, profit making BUSINESS, but what about on the pitch? What do they judge their managers by? Is it “qualify for the CL,or you’re out”? Because even to get in the CL,we need to seriously change our transfer strategy, change the targets we look at,and when we’re serious about a player, put in a serious bid for God’s sake. Don’t just put a bid in so that they’re seen to be taking action. Actually put a bid in,and mean it. I can understand why they walked away from the Teixiera deal (I’ll admit,at the time,I was disappointed to lose out on him,but after thinking it through rationally, that deal just didn’t make sense to pursue in the end),but in other cases where they’ve walked away from a potential deal, you look and go ” you say these players are too expensive, but they’re a better quality of player than the ones you’ve brought to the club,so if you hadn’t thrown that money away in the first place, you wouldn’t have to be so cautious when you try to sign a player now”. Why we overpay for mediocrity, but won’t stump up the cash when we get the chance to sign a real quality player will forever be a mystery to me. I just don’t understand it. They buy these young players,so they can develop them and make a profit on them down the line, but these players are not producing in our shirt,so how can they expect other clubs to pay more for them than we did? Not gonna happen. Say for instance they’re saying to Klopp “well, your aim for the season is to get into the CL,and try and win a cup to make the supporters happy”, Klopp will say ” OK fine, but you’re gonna have to back me to sign the players I want”,then they’ll go,”but Jurgen, you don’t need to buy him, this other lad who plays in the same position is available on loan,we only have to pay his wages”.Sod whether he’s actually any good or not like. Do you know what I mean? Klopp may agree to start with (like he did with Caulker),but if they’re still doing the same thing in the next couple of years,Klopp will walk,I’ve no doubt about that. At the moment,it would appear that FSG are quite happy with the way things are going. We’re just plodding along in mid table, and no action has been taken to address that problem,in my opinion. We’re stuck with the same rubbish that we’ve had since the end of the summer window, and Klopp is clearly struggling with them. There has to be a clear strategy about what the owners aims are for a particular season, rather than this scattergun approach that we’ve seen in recent times

ST, I think there is an element of seen to be doing business during a window. Texeira is a player who, if as successful for us as Suarez was, would have been a snip at 30 million with a huge sell on value to Spain. What they failed to see is that the team are currently struggling to score goals with one fit striker expected to cover all competitions during January with top 4 places at stake if two six pointers were lost. During January Leicester were looking as far as AC Milan looking to bring in quality to push for their title challenge. They couldn’t bag anyone but their targets were sound & realistic. We did not have an alternative target until the Texeira deal fell through, then we began looking at Icardi far too late for any deal to be done before the window closed. We are now languishing midtable too far out of reach to make any impression on the top 4, by comparison look at where Tottenham are. That is where we could have been despite our injuries if we had brought in striking & defensive cover at the beginning of January. If Caulker on-loan was enough for us I doubt Southampton would have let him go. FSG are not football people, they are business people.

Sanj,I agree with you,and that’s why they’re not the people we need in charge. We need to see some form of progress, but all we’re doing is going backwards every season. FSG sack the coaches and managers, but for me,they’re just as much part of the problem as the coaches and managers, in fact they’re more responsible, as they’re in control of the purse strings. They have to sell up for us to progress. That is becoming more and more apparent with every passing season YNWA

Suarez teeth, still pursuing your agenda against the owners! You suggest that they are quite happy with the club in mid table yet you suggest they are purely motivated by money. Are you sure that makes sense or are you determined to interpret everything they do in a negative way? I’m no financial expert but I believe that to maximise their asset they would want the team to be successful!

Spodge,I agree with that, but their actions (or lack of) in the transfer market says otherwise. That’s why,as I say in the post @ 3:06 that I can’t understand why they don’t stump up the cash when we’ve gone after top players, but yet,are prepared to pay the same sums of money for the mediocre players they’ve brought to this club. Even they, with their lack of football knowledge should be able to look at the statistics (and we all know that FSG love a good stat) and see that we’re struggling in the league, and we’re struggling to score goals. They had the whole month of January to do something about that, and they didn’t. They were put off by the asking price for Teixiera, and left it too late to look for an alternative (Icardi). The question is,why? Why didn’t they do something about the lack of goals at the first possible opportunity? If they really cared about performances and results on the pitch, they would have identified the problem (lack of goals) and rectified it. They quite simply didn’t do that. The players were available (Charlie Austin at £4m? No brainer),yet nothing was done. Caulker was brought in,and sits on the bench. Spodge,I respect your view that you think I have an agenda against Henry and co,and I’m not gonna pretend I like them, but their dealings in the transfer market are not indicative of people who want to see success on the pitch,it’s more a case of doing the bare minimum until they get the stand sorted, and then they will sell up and bugger off to their next ‘project’. We deserve better than what we’re getting at the moment Spodge,I would assume you would agree with me on that. We’re all Liverpool fans,we all want to see the best for the club, and we need football people to run our football club, not business men

Thing is, even if we brought in new owners, it wouldn’t guarantee that we’d strike the right formula. They’d have their own ideas and it would be up to them as to the way they went about things. FSG have been through many different ideas. Is it unreasonable to suggest they are likely to hit upon the right formula before another new owner does??

suarezteeth has hit the nail on the head. The club say they won’t over pay for players yet get mugged buying tripe. We’ll spend £20m each on two nomarks but not £50m on quality. Crazy.
