Both did ACL, who’s the bigger loss between the end of this season and next? I’d say Zlatan now, but potentially Rojo as he had nailed down a starting berth in defence and no guarantee Zlatan will be here next season anyway

Well first things first, what an awful thing for both of them…wish them both well in their recoveries. The cold hearted reality is that Ibrahimovic is highly unlikely to get another contract now, all that weekly wage for a couple of months at the end of next season just doesn’t make financial sense, especially as it may have disrupted Joe’s long term transfer plans. At his age it is difficult to imagine Zlatan getting back to the top level again which is a sad end to a magnificent career.

As to who will be the bigger loss, to me it is Rojo in both short term and long term. We’ve got lots more options that we can throw at centre forward….even if some of them aren’t ideal. But at centre back we are down to the bare bones and it is the one place on the pitch more than any other where there is no hiding place. Blind, Carrick, Fosu-Mensah, Tuanzanabe…and not to mention the fact that Bailly has picked up his fair share of injuries too.

Sometimes, out of adversity comes the unexpected…and as Fergie said, the great thing about young players is that they often surprise you. Just maybe, this double injury blow could change the course of the club for the better.

@Tommy – I fully agree with all that, just wondering if legally the club are in trouble as regards Zlatan’s contractual situation now.As the new deal had already been offered to him (presumably with increased terms!) could they now just withdraw it because his knee is fucked?.
Bearing in mind he was injured playing for the club rather than walking the dog could they just walk away from him and say ‘hard cheese old chap’?!.
Would they legally not have a duty of care and be deemed in breach if they did so?,fuck me this could be one very expensive sick note coming Woodward’s way!!.

Hadn’t thought of that actually…hopefully as an asset they will be suitably insured on him! That’s about as far as I can contribute to this one.

No idea about the legal issues but I think the Ibra injury has done the club a massive favour. Can’t see him playing for us again or probably at any top level so it will force Jose to make some serious decisions about our striking options next season. It was becoming obvious in the last few games that he just wasn’t up to it anymore despite the goals he scored earlier and the 2 Anderlecht games were frankly embarrassing. I just wonder if Jose had managed him better and given him more rest he might have survived the season but another one was never an option for me. Having said that, I wish them both well and a full and quick recovery.

Didn’t they have some contractual protection for Falcao in the event of injury? I would not be surprised, given Zlatan age, short contract and medical fact that the older players get the harder it is to recover fully from injury, if there is not a injury clause to protect the club.

@Mac – I would have thought the Falcao situation would have been slightly different in that he was on a years loan and belonged to Monaco rather than us and there was no definitive contractual offer made to him or his club beyond that,so if he had done his cruciate whilst at OT wouldn’t he have just gone back to his club?.

Zlatan could well played his last game at top level. He never had serious injury before and they say he has one of the best physique of them all.
Seeing his career from the start, this season really showed he has gone way over the hill. He still has goals and assists in his body at the age of 36 but we really should have signed him years ago. I doubt he will come back at top level.

What a career, winning the league in every country he played in.
Not in England though…if he dont surprise us all and kicks off a game in January wearing his number 9.

Firstly where are you medical experts obtaining your information from? Who says they are out for 9months with ACLs? Are you relying on the medically informed “SUN” if so get a grip guys!

Wait till the club release the info.

On another note smalling jones if you are reading watching media outlets get the f up and put your body on the line for the cause you lazy twats!!!! Enough of the minor injury bollocks I’m sick of both of you.

Don’t need to be a medical expert united_we_win…you just need to be able to count to ten and be good at remembering.

Blacky – Well it would depend on the loan agreement. Point is, with wages so high and United full of beancounters I’m thinking there would be clauses in contracts about injuries. I can’t see United being contractually obliged to extend Zlatan contract if he is not fit.

It’s a terrible way to end his time at Utd, if he’s smart, and he is, he’s probably insured against a career ending injury like this that should at the very least cover him for loss of earnings next season even though he doesn’t technically have a contract.

hahah that’s precisely my point tommy when you guys can count to ten then remember you suddenly all become football agents medical experts and pundits!

Let’s wait for the final prognosis before we decide to lay these guys into the ground and give them their final goodbyes. Dear me!

That’s just how many months it takes to come back from this particular injury though…don’t need to be an expert to know that. In the 80s your career was finished by a cruciate so thank heavens for that small mercy.

I’m surprised though as I’ve seen the clip of Rojo walking through the mixed zone on Thursday night so yes, let’s wait for official announcements BUT there’s some pretty reputable names reporting the news.

@Mac – Agreed mate,it would be a right royal cock up if we ended up still having to give him another year now. With Ed Wudwud at the helm you just never know!.

@united_we_in – Rest assured mate,if there was absolutely no truth to these stories the clubs press officer would already have released a statement denying it.The final prognosis may end up slightly different to what’s being reported but it’s safe to assume this is not just tabloid ‘click bait’, unfortunately.

Great opportunity for Fosu-Mensah and especially Tuanzebe. If they get the chance to play and impress till the end of the season then Mourinho could easily get rid of both Smalling and Jones and replace them with ONE quality CB in the summer.
Down the other end of the pitch, I really don’t want to see Rooney starting games upfront. I reckon Rashford could have an impact similar to Mbappe if given a run of games.

Apparently he is available for €100 million. I’d prefer we focused most of our transfer spending on a quality partner for Pogba
