This probably sounds bitter but it seems that since Rooney moved to Everton there’s been more comment by him regarding United than there ever was when he was playing here, even when he was captain, and it’s starting to piss me off.
We’ve had the players who got the hairdryer treatment most, why Lukaku is a great fit for Utd, why LVG should have been given more time, why it was hard for him and Carrick to keep standards up after the Class of 92 left etc, blah, blah, blah!
Rooney needs to realise that the only thing he’s doing by coming out with all these comments is alienating those United fans who regard him as a legend.
This is also relevant because he’s looking trimmer and fitter than he ever did in his last few seasons at United.
Rooney’s legacy at United is fragile at best with many fans believing that he was lucky to be in OT as long as he was and regardless of the fact that he broke Bobby Charlton’s scoring record he is nowhere near as widely regarded as Giggs, Scholes and many other club legends. I’d contend, even the controversial Roy Keane is more widely regarded that Wayne.
Wayne is now an Everton player and I wish him all the best. He gave us many great moments and more than a few good seasons. You could argue that Wayne is best when surrounded by great players and that clearly wasn’t the case the last few seasons at OT, but he’s now an Everton player and should concentrate on matters in Goodison, not in Old Trafford.

Agree with you killyboye; it’s a spit in the face that Rooney is looking more interested and hungry at Everton than when he was captain of Man United – since 2011/2012 he’s fallen off and not cared as much about himself and the club and that is the worst part; if we had an interested Rooney in the last few years we may well not have fallen as badly as we have.

A great player back in the day but will never rank amongst the highest tier of United legends in my book.

Haven’t read the reports but chances are he’s not phoning the media, the media are asking him questions and he’s simply answering them.

And it’s not surprising he’s asked about United. The press are fishing for something juicy and there’s more chance of a kiss n tell story after the marriage has ended than before.

That he needed the class of 92 is one of my complaints against him and Carrick. That was their chance to step up to the plate and inspire the players around them just as they had been been inspired by the class of 92. LvG (Moyes) failure is in part down to them not being the leaders they should have been.

Killy – that’s a load of bollocks for me mate, sorry. He’s being asked these questions by reporters, he’s not just coming out with it. He’s not alienated me as a fan by any comments.
I’m disappointed with you because, in Ireland, we don’t slag off players. We support them to the hilt. Which is why we have a team spirit that is 10 times greater than England’s. You may recall a certain Steve Staunton who we played in the centre of defence when he could barely even walk anymore!!
It’s disappointing that you’ve bought into the English idea of slating all the players whenever you can.

@happy I don’t believe I’m slating any player. I just think Rooney needs to say, ‘No comment,’ or ‘I’m an Everton player now, not a Utd player,’ when asked about Utd. I’m sure he is being asked but he also chooses to answer. I firmly believe he’s still a good player, I just felt that what he produced on the field didn’t match his pay packet, and you can’t deny he looks a little hungrier and leaner. That could be down to his new environment, a change is as good as a rest as they say, although his recent brush with the law might suggest that the leopard hasn’t completely changed his spots.

@killyboye – Fair point but the same can be said of most players. It used to infuriate me when underperforming fringe players talked about team success or how the team can improve.

Look on the bright side, imagine some local journalist met him in the pub to hold the interview !!

@happyhurling – This is what used to confuse me. One moment it seems you’re “in Ireland” the next you’re on the south coast.

@scholsey, Steve Staunton is the boss, he’s the gaffer and what he says goes….

@happy, you’ve clearly been gone from Ireland too long and are looking with rose tinted glasses, Glenn Whelan is getting an amount of stick at the moment and has been for years. The Irish aren’t happy unless we’re bitching and moaning about something.
