i think both of these are in a very similiar situation at the minute. Ive read that fans have said their legacy will be tarnished if they dont leave now.In no way will their legacy be tarnished no matter what happens in the next few months. I read utd fans calling rooney fat boy and fat rooney etc. All fans are fickle. Do people never rememeber what these men have done for their clubs?

Most sane liverpool fans can see what kenny did for us when he came back in 2011/12. He is still an absolutle legend at the cluba dn idiolised by all fans. I was disgusted when we sacked him in 2012.

Wenger will go out as one of aresnals best ever managers. He is making things really difficult for himself at the miniute though. Rooney is not the player he was and should go back to everton and finish his days there. My point is, in years tp come people will look back on both their careers at utd and aresnal and say what legends they have been.
Aresnal fans want wenger out but he really is getting some stick. same with Rooney. I just think its a tad overboard.

The irony of this is most fans on other clubs giving it a bit of verbals (myself included), would have loved to have both Rooney and Wenger at their respective clubs, but I think the longer both stick around the more tarnished their legacy will become.

For me, with regards to Looney Rooney, I can’t help thinking he could have been even better if he had the same attitude as RonnyII for example, still had a stellar career, but I think it could have been even better (certainly when it mattered on an international level).

And for Wenger, again, the first half of his Arsenal career was helped with the GG back for, along with He-Who-Cant-Be-Named, defensively he’s unfortunately got more questions than answers.

They’re going to be big loses to both clubs…that’s for sure.

    Sean-

Rooney has become over the hill now. It was no different to Gerrard becoming a hindrance on the side. Rooney’s legs have gone just like Gerrards did. United fans are just fed up that he is getting picked ahead of the likes of Rashford. It is no fault of Rooneys because he is not making the team selection.

Rooney, even though he has made a few mistakes will remain a legend. I was angry at him a few times because of his antics of asking to move away, but he has done more good than bad at the club. What made me realise is, he is an Evertonian, he left his beloved club for Manchester United and money, so why wouldn’t he do the same to United for a bigger pay packet, that is modern day football for you and some forget Denis Law did the same, yet there is a statue of him outside OT.

    Banjo-

His United career stems from 2004-2013, people forget he started at the age of 16 and has played regularly since. His body is not made for it anymore, no matter how much effort he would have put in.

CM…fair point, and I’m not trying to have a pop, but with all the stories about off-filed antics, will always think there could have been a little bit more. He always came back from pre-season/injuries a bit overweight etc… Like I said, still an all-time great but for me there is a hint of “Gazza” about him, in the “could have been a whole lot more” if his head was screwed on a bit tighter…

I agree with that Banjo. His off field antics do come in to question and he could have become better than what he actually did. I believe he could have broken the record a lot sooner too if his off field antics were fixed. In general he has done well at the club and brought some brilliant memories. He has just become over the hill and the best thing he can do now is go back to where it started for him and that is Everton IMO. I suspect he may end up in the states though.

I’d like to see him back at Everton too, if only just for the fans (although I’m guessing on that part!). Always had a bit of a soft spot for them, like with ManCity, seemingly always been in the shadow of a larger more successful club over the years (Pool>Toffee, YooUtd>City, Goonies>Spuds…for now!)

In the early days, Arsenal were using Wenger, now he’s using them. Fans can live with that because he’s owed it for what he did. But the expiry date on that is fast approaching, if not already passed. It’s what happens if you raise expectations, but can’t maintain them. Wenger has got Arsenal from point C to point B; but is he actually now preventing them from getting to point A??

As for Rooney, I’ve always believed had Fergie stayed on, he would have thrown him out the door after asking to leave for the 2nd time. And that probably would have been the best move for both parties and would have shaken both of them up. Instead, like Wenger, the club pandered to Rooney and made him untouchable, and potentially prevented them from buying a fresher alternative for his position.

ye cm but ii really cant recall any liverpool fans giving gerrard that much stick. He was supported fully until he left. Rooney seems tyo be getting all kind sof stick from everywhere mate. Gerrard was never the same after 09/10 season but he was exceptional in 13/14 when we nearly won the league. Never mind the slip!

ye he is done and should move but i think the critcism is harsh. He has been terrible for a few years now though. Its like Ronney just doesnt care. He just seems to be in his shell

When they move on they will be remembered as legends for the clubs. All players fade at the end of the career but this is never the part thats remembered. The records will be in place and this is what will be remembered. When Wenger is gone he will be the last Arsenal manager to win the league for them and the new manager will always be in this shadow for a while as I cant see them winning the league straight away.

Fair points Sean. Gerrard towards the end of his Liverpool career has been remembered differently to Rooney. Some or a lot of United fans have always felt Rooney has disrespected the club too many times to be remembered as a true great, I tend to disagree now, he has brought some brilliant memories. You can also possibly pinpoint it to Ferguson calling Rooney out when he retired, if that did not happen, then some United fans(myself included at the beginning) may have looked at it differently and given a different reaction.

Rooney is a man utd and england legend, and always will be in my eyes.

He has matured greatly this season – possibly the tail end of last season too – Mourinho seems to have improved that side of things with him (the way he conducts himself with representing Man Utd whilst not playing has improved no end and he seems to be the go-to man at the club for the other players). It’s a shame he didn’t grasp that before now.

Rooney’s main issue is that he gets the blame for Man Utd’s and England’s failings. He is a figure head and an easy target. People take their frustrations out on him.

What I would say with Rooney is that he never adapted to the modern game, he never matured that side of things on the pitch. He always wanted to play like he was 16 still. Can anyone say what his best position is these days? He is coming to the end of his career and there are still question marks as to whether he is a 9 or a 10 (or even a 6 or an 8 for LVG or Roy).

For me though, being top scorer for club and country takes some doing and deserves respect.
