Good thing. Wish him the best, of course, but his stay with us never amounted to little else other than frustration and a shadow of suspecting the player of coming to United simply to pick up an oversized paycheck in the winter of his career. Had high hopes to begin with, but he never really made a lasting mark on the team.
Shouldn’t have been purchased in the first place given his age and injury issues; gave what he could in the matches he was called upon and can’t really blame him on choosing to join United when offered the chance given Bayern Munich didn’t want him anymore – not really his fault, I blame Woodard and LVG for yet another poor transfer decision.
No doubt our “hard nosed money man” Chief Exec has given him a nice little payoff to tear up the remaining months of his contract as well!.Close the door on your way out Dick ‘effin Turpin!.
I must say, I never like it when managers sign and oldie who played for them at a past club. It smacks of old pals act helping out a friend. In the case of Zlatan it may have worked out but nonetheless I dont like it. Old Trafford should not be a retirement home.
Schneiderlin and Bastian gone, Carrick probably retiring, all we need now is Fellaini to be sold and we can all look forward to a new midfield next season.
To be fair I think he came with the right intentions, I don’t think it was ever about the paycheque for Bastian. However, he was a player past his peak carrying a series of debilitating injuries who was always going to struggle to adapt to the PL under the circumstances. I wouldn’t say good riddance but goodbye, hopefully he’ll be more at home in the MLS and we can use his wages on someone else now.
killyboye-Good FUCKING riddance indeed,we should all say it.Now the club should do the same with Rooney and Ibra,amongst others, and use the money saved on their wages and get a very good striker like Lukaku.
jm, lets not be too ambitious! I’d keep Herrera as a squad player but don’t think I’d keep his mate Mata tbh. Whatever happens, we certainly need 2 cm’s.
@redblood
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not sorry to see him go. He’s been a drain on the resources of the club for too long now. My point is that I think that when he came he genuinely thought he’d play more, it turns out he didn’t but the length of contract given to him was always a risk given his history and Bayern’s willingness to sell him, given his achievements, should have set off alarm bells in the CFO’s office when the funds were being arranged. A player of his stature should have cost double or triple what we paid and only LVG and Wudwud are to blame for bringing him in. I’ve no doubt the club overpaid him but that’s as much Wudwud’s fault as Schweini’s. He also didn’t cover himself in glory by jetting back to Munich every chance he got while injured as well as making himself available to the national team when he barely played for us. Not sorry to see him go but he was badly managed both on and off the field by both LVG and Jose.
