well that was a bit of a anti climax. No Sanchez move, lemar bid for 92 million along with him possibly turning us down. No defender no midfielder signing so we’re going with what we got until Jan at best. Lets try to make some sense of the mess. Although I would off liked a few more to be shipped out as well as join I think we have a clearer picture of what we’re going with for the season ahead. Im glad mustafi ended up staying as I rate and like him. So I can see mustafi, kos and one of monreal/holding/chambers fighting out the other position when all fully fit. I see we rejected a deal for chambers and I think he might be given a chance after holding being unimpressive and Gabriel now leaving. On the wing back role it’s quite obvious as bellerin and the hulk/Monreal. Now midfield is where I’m torn as xhaka and Ramsey ain’t working so we need to choose a combination and I think possibly playing maybe coq next to xhaka especially away from home to give him and the team the support and defensive shield they need. Further forward regardless of the saga Sanchez is a must but funny we haven’t heard much of the ozil situation hopefully we can get a buyer in Jan for him even if it’s 15 odd million, I wouldn like to see iwobi given a run in the team instead of ozil or maybe even playing Ramsey further forward behind laca. I like lacazette don’t no what happened with him not starting Against pool but with giroud and welbeck waiting in the wings I think we should have enough to mount a challenge for the top four as the league is well and truly out of our grasp.

I’d be happy we kept Chambers if I thought that Wenger was still a good judge of a player, but he’s not. As the BBC put it, the only reason Chambers didn’t go is because he’s not in the last year of his contract yet.

Problem is that not much matters until Wenger goes. He could have spent £300m in this window but would still manage to f**k up any title challenge.

I’m glad we’ve kept Sanchez – at least there’s someone at Arsenal who will give the other players a kick up the backside – something Wenger is clearly incapable of – and he’ll be the difference between just a bad season and total disaster.

Thing is, we have a good squad and can put out a very good first eleven – they just don’t seem to want to play for Wenger anymore. Best bit of business the board could have done this summer was get a new manager in. We can discuss all day long which players we should have sold, which players we should have bought, what formation we should play and which players should play where but only two things are guaranteed – Wenger will continue to screw things up and nothing will change until he f**ks off.

Seems Chambers might be used as cover in that RB/RWB position. Debuchy is a lost cause and an abysmal waste of 30m odd in fees and wages, and I really believe he has lost all confidence and motivation to play football. He’s happy picking up his pay cheque, and that’s it.

I’m happy we kept Mustafi – never particularly rated him, but I was having nightmares about us being left with Kos (Achilles), Mert (slow OAP), Holding and Chambers (both u-21) as our only CB options.

Something tells me we will revert to the old 4-2-3-1 system which will see us using 2 CBs, Ozil back in his usual position, Welbeck backing up Sanchez and Giroud backing up Lacazette. RW is still throwing up a major stink, as Walcot seems to be the only option there. We could play Lacazette there (he cut his teeth out wide before moving central) and have Giroud or Welbeck up front, or play Welbeck there as another option.

We do have options though and, as disappointing as the window was mainly for not solving our biggest issues, I don’t want to get carried away along with the hysteria of the media. We could have done much better and we could’ve made better decisions. But we have a squad of decent options in most areas:

GK does worry me as I’ve never been thrilled with Cech since he arrived, and he looks worse and worse. I feel like everything will go past him! Ospina as back-up could be worse… I’ll leave it there!

RB… I have to say I’ve been disappointed by Bellerin over the last 12 months or so. His performances have been poor, and to think he will have no one of note to challenge him… Well, it is what it is.

LB is the area we’re about the best sorted in the whole squad IMO. Two very solid performers there. Monreal isn’t suitable for all opponents, but between him and Sead we should have more than enough.

CB options might not be stellar, but we have a mix of youth and experience in there. I think it’s enough for a campaign. Better protection from midfield will make these guys look much better.

Midfield is really where I think our biggest problems are. We have to make a decision – do we play our best players on paper (Xhaka, Ramsey), or do we look for the best combination that would give optimal balance? Xhaka – Elneny? Xhaka – Coq? Ramsey – Coq? (Ramsey is too loose with the ball for this option) Do we introduce Wilshere into the mix? Would Coq – Wilshere work? Wilshere – Xhaka? Wenger has a lot of thinking to do about this one area, and I almost believe he will make the wrong decisions! I can almost say that this is the area that doomed us before the first ball was kicked this season!

RW, as I said, is an area of clear weakness with Walcott as the only option. If he plays like he started last season, who knows? But Welbeck can possibly play there…

AM – Iwobi backs up Ozil. Really lost the taste for Ozil over the last year or so, but it still goes without saying that if we have sharp shooters in and around him, he will create for them. I would like Iwobi to be cheeky and try to see whether he can make a good case for himself this season, what with this being Ozil’s final season with us. What a disappointment, Ozil… Right up (or down?) there with Davor Suker, Baptista, Arshavin and Gervinho for me!

LW – All depends on how professional Sánchez is. Can he replicate his form of last season? Welbeck or Iwobi backing him up is not too bad.

ST – Lacazette and Giroud, with Welbeck our utility forward a possible (albeit underwhelming) option.

Is this a squad that can get us back into the CL places? Wenger’s taken a massive 60m gamble on that. I would imagine it’s the biggest of his life. I hope for our sake (the fans) that he called it right but… I don’t see it!

Your right we have what we have and while there are areas for debate personally for me we cannot seriously play Walcott if he never started the season can we….

go with three centre mids…1 striker and two players who appear and create from anywhere…stucking rigid is costing us dearly as we are leaving holes all over the park…we in my opinion need 3 centre mids and one of them needs to be defensive minded….play Sanchez/Ozil/Lacazette as top 3…then three mids behind them…Bellerin/Kolasinac supplying width and two centre backs who stay…so we really have 3 centre backs but one of them is def mid who can pick a pass…but we dont have that…so back to drawing board…and for me its like that with whatever formation base I look at we are on paper 1 player short of it being able to work…note I say work…maybe not to the we will win the league/europa league etc level but just being able to function…with limited gaps appearing that can be exploited…

I see nothing but despair this season, even more than the preceding ones and that’s saying something. As experts have said all the teams ahead of us have strengthened as have United and Everton who finished behind us, so we have regressed. The lies peddled by the spin machines at our club take the biscuit, as does Wenger’s deplorable lies and antics these past few weeks. How many times has he said “Sanchez is not for sale?” Then last week, he said the Lemar deal was “dead” as Monaco were asking more and more and finally at £80m, Wenger stopped. Now, at the last minute, he tries to ship out Sanchez and then supposedly bid £92m for a player who had said he preferred Liverpool last week! These lies fool no-one. No bid was made, does anyone think Wenger would bid that high? It’s all a sham as now AFC can say Monaco turned us down after we made such a high bid. Henry said players don’t want to come here and the good ones that do will leave at the end of their contract. It comes to something when a United cast-off, Evans, turns us down in the belief that he would warm the bench at City. Wenger makes my stomach turn, how he can get out of bed and look at himself believing he’s doing/ has done a good job for the past 10 years is astonishing. I now think he’s not very well, dementia seems to have set in for good and it will only get worse.

As with everyone here our biggest worry is centre mid. If xhaka can’t tackle or is Immobile you might as well play Wiltshire in that role as he has the same faults and both can pass. Xhaka Ramsey worked at the end of last season so there should be no reason why it can’t work again this season it’s a lack of team player discipline and people not doing their jobs. As every one says my biggest worry is centre mid if the Ramsey xhaka does not work then I don’t have a clue. My preference is play coq and xhaka with Ramsey and drop Ozil, especially away but he will never do that!

Jeff, I read somewhere we actually had a negotiating team at Monaco making a half ass attempt at signing Lemar. When Monaco called our bluff and accepted the bid we claimed there was no time to complete the deal and walked away. I wouldn’t put it pass Wenger to pull off a stunt like this.

On paper, we can state what our best team and formation will be but when players just can’t be bothered and we leak goals like crazy, it won’t matter. This time round, we won’t have Sanchez playing like he did last season and if he follows through with his strike threat, we won’t have him at all. We have already started playing like we did last season where no one seems to care. Only difference is Wenger is playing players out of position a lot more and benching key players for no reason.

A lot who dont give an F. I dont, players dont, Kroenke dont, the board dont and Wenger dont. I think we end up on place 8 now and thats a good thing since then it matches our quality and ambition.

This transfer window proves we are the laughing stock of English football. Only one man to blame and that is the selfish ignorant fool who manages/dictates the club.
I believe the Lemar bid was just a decoy and to make it seem like something was happening. 92 million.. sorry he is not worth that and goes against all of the morals of this joke of a manager. BUT Wenger and co still try to pull the wool over our eyes and make out they are trying. If reports are to true, we accepted the Sanchez bid when the liar was sure he would not sell, nor to a rival. Why wait until the day to do this ffs! Sanchez wants to go, we all knew that. Sell and then buy BEFORE the last day. But no.. the joke that is Arsene FC seems to continue and they failed. We are like a spare at a wedding these days. Pool have jumped above us in attraction and can you blame the players.
Sick and tired of this fool making me feel like this.
How much more do we have to put up with…

2 more years I am afraid Romford Pele. I think they have all lost the plot at Arsenal. Why supposedly 92M for Lemar when we all know our defense and CM are shit. As Shifty keeps saying, it will get much worse with this team of con men running the club. One thing I am sure though: someone like Tuchel will get more out of this lot than Wanker. This lot of tossers need a disciplinarian who will kick them when they faff around. I am afraid our downward spiral is well underway now. I really hope I am wrong. On another note, if Bollox fancied Pool so much, how committed does anyone think he was on Sunday?

I won’t expect we will be top 4 on this season and next season. So long as Wenger is in charge, we won’t have chance at all. I expect we will be in top 10 (I hope). Be honest, I don’t want Wenger to spend 92M for Lemar because Wenger doesn’t know how to perform Lemar. Take a look what happen our players. No matter who he signed, they never played well after couple of games. The problem is that his system is no longer good enough for us and players. I prefer to save all money and sack Wenger so we need to let new manager to sign new players.

I don’t tend to agree with some posters that the players have given up playing for Wenger, not playing well will only harm themeselves and considering most are close to or already are in the final years of their contract it wouldn’t make sense to down tools and go thru the motions as what will this achieve we all know Wenger ain’t going no where for the next two years,Unless PSG come calling. personally I think we have a good starting 11 and even squad for that matter but I would say we are behind the Manchester clubs, pool the chavs and spuds so we all know the best we can hope for is a top four tilt. We can’t expect to compete with the likes of them clubs minus maybe pool and spuds although both had a bit of a dash in the transfer market. Even Everton outspent us in fact we were one of the few clubs that actually made a profit. i just hope competing in the europa (hopefully less taxing games) so we can play a few more fringe players so we can comsentrate a little more on the league. But knowing US I think we might even make a hash of that. so let’s hope Sanchez, ozil and co pull their sleeves up as there out to impress any new suitors, lacazette should look to impress as it’s his first season along with the hulk. Mustafi could still be playing with a move in mind and the likes of holding/chambers iwobi/welbeck/coq along with giroud will want to win a starting berth. So let’s get behind the team until the circus comes to town again in Jan.

Momo, you can’t tell me the players this season have played for Wenger. They seem like they can’t be bothered, especially the Liverpool game. There were many games last season where Wenger was under a lot of pressure and you could see that they couldn’t care less and didn’t want to fight. I know it makes no sense as it damages their careers. The only player who it affected was Sanchez and he got alienated by the other players for that. Now he is probably the least motivated out of the lot.

    Sorry guys, we are stuffed.

We should have seen the writing on the wall. Wenger has destroyed this club, abet with more than able assistance from the board. The owner is a money man and doesn’t care about soccer, Arsenal or England. Just the bottom line on a spreadsheet.
The Problems we see, are there on the field. We cannot defend, we cannot manage a midfield and we have lost the countering ability we were once known for. In fact we are now caught with our own party trick.
The backbone and pride has disappeared, leaving confusion, fear and loss of self belief.
Bad management of the team is the cause here, poor tactics, ridiculous player positioning and total lack of understanding of game plan to combat opposition.
We never get the best out of our players, they don’t improve, they stagnate. They are demotivated by the club and in their own self belief. Frustrated by the Lack of management and lulled into a false sense of security, to cover their lack of achievement and failure.
This club, once great is no more. No longer the “Pride of North London”. A laughing stock in the whole football world.
Wenger MUST go. He adds nothing in any department, to better the predicament. I cannot stress enough, the destruction he is doing to all facets in Arsenal. I do agree, he is not alone. The others mentioned above just allow him to operate with impunity. They also must face the music.
STEP ONE: Wenger must go NOW. I said previously, the transfer window will show us the true situation. Sanchez will never play for Arsenal again. He might be on the field, which I doubt, but never give 100%. We have seen already, the club being snubbed. It will only get worse.
People are saying challenge for top 4, don’t make me laugh. If we’re mid table, I’ll be happy. In fact, with this defense and the set up provided by “Le Boss” we could easily be in the relegation battle come end of the year.

    WENGER OUT NOW. GFL.

Honestly, there really is nothing to look forward to.Wenger has clearly lost the dressing room.Yet,it is the first time in the history of football that a club has gotten rid(or trying to) of the players rather than the manager.

    Only at Arsenal.
