Wayne Rooney’s lifestyle means he is unlikely to play into his mid 30s – and Manchester United were wrong to make him captain.

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to who it might be? I’ve always been curious to find out.

Rooney…. he’s been keeping it a secret that he’s a footballer for a couple of seasons now! 🙂

Seriously, I’ve always had a suspicion that it’s Rio Ferdinand for some reason.

United should have got rid of him the summer Ferguson retired. The only problem was Chelsea were the only club in for him. He was the one of the few only good performers under Moyes, but he slowly regressed that season. Last season he did well for a short period of time and I thought we had the old Rooney back, then his form just slumped again. This season he has been awful. There is something seriously wrong in why Rooney never gets dropped. He just walks back in to side no matter how poor he is playing, whilst others are rightfully or wrongfully dropped.

The Secret Footballer can say whatever he wants about Rooney right now because he has been playing rubbish for a while but to say he has never been a worldclass player is blasphemous in my book.

Rooney was devastating in his prime, a pitbull off it’s leash. He destroyed Arsenal, Liverpool, AC Milan, Manchester City, and every other team of relevance to United fans at crucial moments several times.

It is completely myopic to rubbish a man’s entire career because he is aging badly. I don’t care if he drinks beer, he still was a fabulous footballer – “worldclass” by anyone’s definition.

Actually, since Paul Gascoigne is rubbish now why don’t we write off his prime as well – he had a fair few pints didn’t he??

CM I think Rooney’s days playing as a striker are behind him, however I can see him playing in midfield, and I think that might prolong his career. Maybe van Gaal puts him back in because there’s nobody else that he thinks is better than Rooney at playing that role. I think letting Hernandez go was a real mistake, and even David De Gea said similar in the press. He was a real poacher for you. Sky Sports News were reporting yesterday that Moussa Dembele (the Fulham striker, not the midfielder at Tottenham) is ‘on United’s radar’. If that’s true, I would be worried if I was a United fan. Surely, you’d want someone a bit more experienced to come in and hit the ground running straight away?

Thre is a spelling mistake in the title. The second word is spelt with an ‘a.’

Hatters, you need to lighten up. He says he doesn’t think he is world class. That is hardly rubbishing his whole career. Alot of people do not think Rooney was world class.

You should probably stop calling it the “Secret Footballer” column. It’s Dave Kitson, and it is the worst kept secret on earth.

Probably needs a manager that will push him and play him where he needs to be played. Paul Gascoigne would’ve been a legend if he’d closed Fergie over Tottenham.
