Klopp favors a 4-2-3-1 but we don’t have the players(2 in central midfield exposes the defence and no wingers) to employ such a formation at the moment. The 2 in midfield need to balance attack and defence like Alonso and Mascherano. Someone like newcastle’s Sissoko could fit the bill alongside Can. This would free up the attacking players. Lucas should move to CB if he can keep up his current level. Lewandowski is not lightning quick or the best in the air but what he does have is great movement and great finishing. If Klopp decides to keep Benteke past the summer I’m hoping he can develop into that type of player. I was excited when Benteke signed because there aren’t many better strikers out there that we can get. With a better team behind him with better supply he could very well come good. Even if we don’t play with 1 up front, the “big man small man” combo has worked well for us in the past and a partnership between Sturridge and Benteke could very well blossom. (One great in the air and the other great with his feet and movement) With a better midfield to support those 2 they could get the space in the box to do some real damage. Only time will tell.

Razor You say a Benteke/Sturridge combo might work well. I agree, and also think that a combo of Benteke/Origi would work well too. Don’t forget,we also have Danny Ings coming back,so that gives us more options, and again,a Benteke/Ings combo looks pretty good too (on paper at least). If he takes his chances between now and the end of the season, Benteke might just save his Liverpool career

ST, Razor agree with both and something I said earlier in season eg when Sturridge wasn’t fit, try out Origi with Benteke.

I just can’t see it now as Klopp surely would’ve tried it previously.

It would’ve been nice to give it a try though.

Bob,I don’t know why managers seem to have gone off the idea of playing 2 up front. Leicester and Watford have proved this season that it can be effective, and for me,it would be better than having 3 number 10’s up there all getting in each other’s way,as has happened at times this season

Razor, exactly what I was thinking, just like the way Suarez and Sturridge flourished, why not Benteke and Sturridge.

I know Klopp plays 4231 or 433, but even that is flexible and can incorporate 2 strikers, just like when Sturridge has gone out wide when Firmino was in the centre – I think it was the Villa game, but I could be wrong.

Or you could even have 2 midfielders holding with 4 roving attackers in front of them e.g. Coutinho, Firmino, Benteke and Sturridge, just like 2 years ago when we challenged for the Premiership
