I really cannot think of anyone else with the exception of Howe.

If they want to go English then there really is no-one else.

He has done well results wise without really getting the team playing so far, but it is early days.

Other than Howe who currently doesn’t seem to want it who else is there that is English which is seemingly the FA requirement.

Give Southgate a go with a break clause after the World Cup he’s been around the FA for a while and knows how it all works and has managed many of these players at U21 level he can’t do any worse than those who have gone before him.

it shows the state of english football when southgate is the only choice. Its crazy , absolutley crazy that he is even thought of as england manager but there is no one else. The lack of choices is scary.

at the end of the day , england are a terrible side. They have so many average players and the fact southgate is going to be the new england manager is laughable

Sean, according to SSN’s Le Saux and Wilkinson are just advisers to a 3 man FA selection committee of Ashworth,Clarke and Glenn.

Sean, its all a bit of a red herring anyway mate I would be amazed if Southgate doesn’t get it.

Howe would be crazy to even contemplate taking it. The paper’s will push him as a good candidate then within days of getting it they would turn on him and say he lacks the top level experience and lack of trophies etc. He wouldn’t have a chance.

Southgate might be the best choice since people already think he isn’t the right person so the only way is up ?

I think England could do with a low expectations manager on a modest salary.

Mind you the team is still being overrated. John Stones was turned inside out relativity easy by Ispas. This in addition to his multiple Man City errors, im really confused as to why gets all these plaudits. There are much better defenders in the premiership, let alone Europe.

If you dont hold the ‘star’ players accountable, nothing will ever change. England tend to glorify the players, and crucify the manager, as if not winning with England is a scandal and should be considered a managerial failure.

Why not just give it to Redknapp. Not his biggest fan, but better than Southgate and Pardew. I would go with Howe, but this potentially could lead to career suicide.

Sean – You say england are a terrible side full of average players. Surely this would make us an average side rather than terrible.

harry, sorry terrible is to strong a word. Average is right. I like to see them do well as i support an english club but they are just desparate to watch and are so over hyped by the media its unreal

Hahaha just yanking your chain sean. I knew what you mean’t. We are bang average, but I think the team realises that now, where as before with the Gerrards and the Lampards and the Rios and Terrys there was too much ego. I genuinely believe this group can go far as long as they stay grounded. As Portugal and Greece have proven in the past, you don’t need the best players on paper to win things.

The Jury is still out for me. 3 poor performances leading up to last nights game and although we played well for the majority of the game last night the collapse at the end concerns me. The obvious question of course who else is there. I would say no to Eddie Howe. Whilst he has done a good job at Bournemouth he has had the financial backing to achieve this (although I wouldn’t rule him out in the future). I would rather see Sean Dyche given the chance if we were to go down that route.

I still would like to see someone like Klinsmann given the role. Greatly experienced at international level, the Germans credit him for their revival and he is doing a very good job in the states. Speaks fluent English and knows our game well.

My biggest concern though still lays with the FA. I just have zero trust in them to do the right thing.

NOLU, Southgate wouldn’t be my choice and I agree if it wasn’t for the criteria of “it has to be an Englishman” put in place by the FA then that leaves a very very small pool to fish in and leaves out the likes of Klinsman for consideration.

I like the look of Howe but seemingly he’s ruled himself out and after that nobody else has the international experience and experience of working with the majority of these players that Southgate has.
