Very difficult game this weekend and a far sterner test than Manu in my opinion
Have no idea how many changes they made midweek but they just about scrapped through due to a wonder goal but have to admit that they looked organised and fairly comfortable against City last weekend. They are pacey, can score goals and defensively they do not give much away
So why are they not top of the table..?
They can be got at and man for man we have the better players. We will need to be on top of our game and assuming that they are all fit I would prefer to go with the 11 that beat ManU. That looked a very well balanced side who looked capable at the back, solid in the middle and creative up front
If we could come away with 3 points then I think it would be seen as a good turning point for the season and you could even consider us as contenders. Soton will take plenty of points of good teams so we will have to have the right attitude and be fully focussed throughout the game but in that respect it seems to me that Conte is on the money and is capable of getting the players in the correct frame of mind. Must admit that I quietly fancy our chances…? KTBFFHOctober 28, 2016 at 1:49 pm #1290084
According to Conte we have no fresh injury worries and hew confirmed that Ivanovic is fit and available for selection on Sunday. KTBFFHOctober 28, 2016 at 3:40 pm #1290342
CFC1905: hopefully Iva won’t start. We should not change the backline: Iva-Luiz-Cahill. It will be a tough match, soccernet.com and teamtalk both sites predicted a draw.October 28, 2016 at 3:41 pm #1290345
Azpi-Luiz-Cahill I meant. I typed too quickOctober 28, 2016 at 4:14 pm #1290435
While we can all agree that Ivanovic has not been playing well for months now it would be interesting to see how he adapts to a back 3
Personally, I would not want him to start this weekend and have stated my preference would be for the same 11 as started against ManU, however, Ivanovic is a CB by trade and if nothing else could provide decent cover (especially when most pundits seem to feel that JT was off the pace midweek so possibly not suited to a back 3..?)
BTW – I also noticed that Zouma played 45 minutes midweek. He gave away a penalty but must be very ring rusty so maybe to be expected. Have not read or heard of any negative impact after the game so hope that he continues with his comeback and can be available sooner rather than later). KTBFFHOctober 28, 2016 at 4:51 pm #1290495
Tough game, and I would not expect the staring 11 to be too different to that which played Man Utd. Maybe Ivan will make the bench, but I think I would even be surprised at that. Willian for Pedro maybe – but maybe not after reports of his performance against West Ham. A draw would not be a disaster, but would love the three points, and I wouldn’t put it past us! C’MON THE CHELS!!!!!!!!!!!October 28, 2016 at 6:30 pm #1290615
Cant belive ivan is been mentioned anywhere near the first team. Proven the slowest defender we have. And conte has came out and said both sided defenders need to be pacey. He wont start. Conte isnt that stupid. Ever since been dropped we havent concededOctober 28, 2016 at 6:54 pm #1290654
Tough game away to inform Southampton who are full of confidence after a good point away to City and a league cup success against Sunderland. but still i expect us to be more competitive than we were against Westham on Wednesday.
My team for Southampton game will be, Courtois,
Azpilicueta – Luiz – Cahill,
Moses – Kante – Matic – Alonso,
Pedro – Costa – Hazard.October 28, 2016 at 6:57 pm #1290657
Tough game given Southampton have lost but one game of their last ten across all competitions.
I would happily accept a draw now but I’m obviously hoping for the win.
I would go with the team that beat United with Willian on the bench given what he’s been through and is still going through.October 28, 2016 at 8:47 pm #1290741
Azpilicueta – Luiz – Cahill,

It will be another game where we may nick the 3 points if Conte picks the right team. its clear that Southampton main goal threats are Austin, Tadic and Redmond, if our defence can deal with them. then i expect us to be comfortable and i have every confidence that we will score if Conte picks the strike force that faced United and Leicester.
Willian should be on the bench rightfully or wrongfully, that is where he and Oscar belongs. Terry should also make way as this sytem never suits him. he is slow and has got no match fitness. if we approach like we did in our last two PL games. then i expect an afternoon of enjoyment. but anything can happen and Conte may well pick the wrong team.October 30, 2016 at 3:05 pm #1293537
Unchanged team from the United game. Fingers crossed.?October 30, 2016 at 3:12 pm #1293549
Happy to see an unchanged team from the Utd game, I only saw patches of the West Hame game from midweek due to an unreliable stream and none of the guys that came in did enough to force a way into this game.
Really tough game today, was very impressed with Soton against City, very well organised, plenty of bite of midfield and pace up top. Fancy us to get at least a draw today though, come on the blues!October 30, 2016 at 6:05 pm #1293774
The same starting 11, the same formation, another clean sheet, another Costa goal, another 3 points. A week to prepare for Everton at home. Another very attainable win. Love it.October 30, 2016 at 6:14 pm #1293810
Great win , well done boys, loved it.
On a negative I sure hope that substation of ivanovic for Moses is not a sign he starts next week, please conte no no no
As it also probably means chalobah goes down the pecking order.October 30, 2016 at 6:25 pm #1293831
Good performance again, defensively sound, Matic reborn and two lovely goals too.
Pylon, I’m fairly sure that the Ivanovic substitution was tactical and bar any injuries we will see another unchanged team v Everton certainly defensively.October 30, 2016 at 6:31 pm #1293849
Tough game. Buzzing with the win
I really think if we can find another player to replace william/ pedro in the free roam creative postion who will score and assist we can definitley get 4th spot. Got far to much realience on costa and hazard.October 30, 2016 at 6:39 pm #1293864
Seriously impressive away performance. Hazard’s goal reminiscent of Zola in his pomp against United. It’s great to be a Chelsea supporter right now.October 30, 2016 at 6:48 pm #1293906
We had tactical substations in all our last four PL games which did not include ivanovic because he was out injured, which means whoever it might be gets a run out likes of chalobah
TBH surprised he was even on the bench, considering the run of games without himOctober 30, 2016 at 9:45 pm #1294107
Wonderful ! that is how it feels now. Absolutely JT and others have a fight in their hands to get back in to ther starting line up. this team has created a wonderful momentum and it will be a grave mistake to break it up.
The form of Hazard is particularly pleasing. its now clear that he is finally enjoying his football. he will be the difference between between success failure in our pursuit of top 4. his fitness will be crucial and scoring 3 successive games in a row will only do a world of good for him.
And Costa is always reliable when he is in the mood. credit to Conte for curbing his fights with the defenders. and you can clearly see the impact of that. hand on heart at one stage he has to sit out.
Moses? what player we have in our hands with him. him and Pedro will likely block Willian’s return to the team any time soon if they are fit and play like they are playing.
And finally, How foolish looking are those who brought that Conte to be sacked betting? they must be regretting about that.
