a fully fit sturridge is our best player. If he can stay fit then he has to stay.

i cant believe some of the negative comments about him recently. He has been out for a year and a half nearly. He is not going to be fully match fit and sharp for at least another few weeks. 7 games and 3 goals isnt to bad for a chap that is working his way back to full fitness.

If this story is accurate then PSG paying £50m for Sturridge is akin to PSG paying £50m for David Luiz given Sturridge’s injury record.

If Sturridge could stay fit Liverpool shouldn’t go anywhere near it but if he can’t and history seems to reflect that then Liverpool would be bonkers to turn it down.

Though I would be amazed if any club would pay that amount for a player who has been so continuously injured without there were several staged payments based on Sturridge remaining fit.

£20m up front maybe and 3 staged payments from there based on him remaining fit across x number of games over 3 seasons might make more sense.

I agree with Nine. If he can stay injury free for a certain length of time, then we should tell PSG to jog on,as we know he will score goals when fit. If his body keeps breaking down, then take the £50m,and go for someone like Aubameyang. £50m for a player that we signed for £12m,and has the injury problems Sturridge has had,is great business, and I think FSG,and probably Klopp, would take it,if he can’t stay fit

s/t, when push comes to shove mate I would be amazed if even PSG are silly enough to offer £50m for a player who has spent most of his time in the last two seasons injured.

If they were silly enough though hopefully Chelsea built in a sell on clause when they sold Sturridge to Liverpool.?

I’d be incredibly surprised too Nine, but PSG aren’t scared about splashing the cash, look what they paid for Luiz and Di Maria. Either way,Liverpool win. If he stays,we have a guaranteed goalscorer, a matchwinner (when he’s fit). If he goes,Liverpool will make a massive profit, and hopefully spend the money wisely

Let’s say we do sell him for £50mil who do you buy to replace him??
    Who’s out there??

Our recent transfer history is poor. We have not bought well generally. We currently sit 9th in the table. Optimistically 6th is prob the best we can hope for. I’m sure sure some of our resident mathematicians will point out we can finish higher but going by our form this season 6th seems about right.

Which top notch striker are we gonna attract with no European football and have generally been finishing about 6th in the league for the past 6/7 seasons??

Chelsea, Utd, Arsenal, Spurs will all be in the market for a new striker too (not to mention clubs abroad) so even if there was this top notch striker out there, available is he gonna choose us over others??

Klopps definitely a factor that will help attract players but is it enough.

I’d suggest holding on to Sturridge for at least another season to see if he can recapture the form he showed in his first 18 months with us.
At the min he’s still rusty but he’s still has the qualities there for all to see and still has a 1 in 2 strike rate. Not too shabby at all.
Let’s not be too hasty. He’s our only genuine top quality player at the min.

If the likes of Lacazette were available it’d be worth considering because it’d be rare to get offered 50 million for Sturridge these days with his injuries. Also can see Benteke being sold so that’d put quite a bit of money in the kitty for replacements. It’ll be interesting to see what Klopp does this summer because I’m sure he’s already planned a lot.

If it’s true about the 100 million available to spend and then a fair few players being sold that’ll bump up the spending quite a bit because even some of the deadwood are worth some decent money.

Last summer when we were debating Benteke I wanted us to buy either Aubameyang or Lacazette. Both available for around £30-35mil. My preference was Aubameyang as he could play thru the middle or off to one side and was extremely quick. He signed a new contract and has been tearing the Bundesliga up ever since. Prob worth £60mil or more now and there would be a big list of clubs interested if he were available.
Lacazette is an interesting option however his form has dipped a bit this season compared to last. He also signed a new contract last summer which ends in 2019. 31 goals last season compared to 15 (so far) this season. Was last season just a favourable blip? Would he settle well in Liverpool? Would he even come to Liverpool without European football or a decent chance of winning the league?

It’s looking likely that Benteke will be leaving us so do we want to sell both Benteke AND Sturridge and gamble on 2 strikers coming in who may or may not hit the ground running?
I’d hold on to Sturridge and wait and see. However bringing Lacazette in to replace Benteke may be a good option to take. If we don’t make any European football do we need to replace Benteke at all as we would have Sturridge, Ings, Origi and Firmino to compete in the league and domestic cups??
Could save us money which could be put to good use elsewhere or just saved for when a top notch player does become available.

We CANNOT sell Sturridge before buying a top quality striker. We are NOT Barcelona, we always CANNOT get our top target even we can afford the transfer fee and meet the player’s wages requirement.

We cannot sell Sturridge unless we can sign a proven striker, say Aubameyang, Lewandowski etc.(unlikely)

We probably can attract some potential strikers like Lacazette etc. Can those potential players help the team to turn the around? Even Klopp & the player himself does not know. Once the new striker becomes Benteke 2.0, we will continue to struggle.

So, sell Benteke but keep Sturridge, then try to sign the best striker that we can. It will be most safe for us.

Ginger, you took the words right out of my mouth. We will not get Aubameyang.

People need to consider who we will be able to get in. Money is nothing if we can’t get the right players in.

Keep Sturridge, add to him and get back into the CL and then go out and replace him if required.

Sean, defo agree, he’s had a lot of unfair criticism.

Keep Sturridge. He’s a brilliant player, just coming back into finding his fitness. I do feel like he looks like he’s holding back ever so slightly when he plays, not sure if that is the fitness thing or just mentally he’s worried about another break down. I hope he has a good and injury free run in to the end of the season, and a good Euros and comes back to Liverpool next season fit, confident and ready to start banging in goals for us.

In Origi and Ings we have two very good, young and determined deputy’s who I’d trust to come on as subs, play in the cups etc and try to force their way into the 1st 11. I think they fit Klopp’s style.

We have Firmino as another option there, however I do think selling Benteke and Balotelli and losing the potential of Sinclair means we should look at another top drawer striker – I’m not sure who but yeah Aubameyang would be a dream signing as would Lacazette based upon reports I’ve read over the past 2 years on the two…I have to admit I don’t watch much foreign football and so haven’t actually watched either play too many times. Whoever it is needs to be a mobile striker, quick, aggressive on the front foot and a goalscorer with a good accuracy and strike conversion record.

I might sound like a broken record over here but we can not sell our first team players. It does not matter if its Lallana, Lovren or Sturridge. The club has to stop selling our first team players. Sterling, Suarez, Torres, Masch the list goes on and on. Even flops like Carroll, we only went out and got Balotelli, Lambert and Benteke. We could have kept Carroll, he would have scored about 10 goals a season for us and saved us the transfer fees of Balotelli, Lambert and Benteke.

I’m sorry but a fully fit Sturridge is more than £50m. If he keeps fit from now till the beginning of the season we have to keep. He’s too good.

Besides, we’ve bought 2 strikers in our last 2 windows and look at them now…

@notoriousbingo they are confused. They think it’s as simple as buying a new player but we’ve been doing that for years and been stuck in the same place. There were actually talks about selling Coutinho on here one time lol

If 50 million is accurate, with his injury record, we should consider it strongly. We took 50 million for Torres, but failed to replace him immediately with Carroll. Torres was a better striker for us over 4 seasons than Sturridge. There might be an immediate replacement for him in Icardi, or even Walcott, if we need premiership experience. Studge injury record is a big risk & it’s only because of it the amount of the deal is attractive. YNWA

If he’s fit enough to pass a fitness test for a £50m transfer, then he’s fit enough to be our main striker.

However, it may not come down to whether we want him to stay or not. If he wants to go, passes a fitness test and there is £50m on the table, then gut feel says that Klopp will wave goodbye and bank the cash.

Why bank the cash?… test Athletico’s resolve for Antoine Griezmann??? 50 million is a substantial sum which could tempt them.

Take the £50m and make a bid for Lukaku. We’ve done worse by buying Balotelli, Borini,Lambert,Benteke. Test Everton’s resolve by bidding the whole £50m. If he can score 20+ goals playing for that shite, then he will surely keep banging them in for us. Before people say we’ve got no chance, who else could we get who basically guarantees goals? Benzema? No. Cavani? No. Lewandowski? No. Aubameyang? Doubtful. Lukaku is young, ambitious, knows the league, and all the top sides in England would take him, even Man City. He’d be ideal for us
