Stefan, I was thinking the same re Mangala although he was left wanting last season but we were in for him previously and he does have pace.
The suggestion of Benteke came up a while back which sent one or two on here into orbit but bar last season where he has had problems at Liverpool a lot of them not of his making prior to that his goal scoring record in the PL is at least on par with Lukaku.
We’d get the both of them for £15m less than the alleged Lukaku fee too.?
August 10, 2016 at 8:10 am #1155243Kone from Sunderland smacks a bit of desperation but he did well for Sunderland 2nd half of last season and he is PL proven???
August 10, 2016 at 8:12 am #1155252Stefan – it seems that whichever defender we seem to want the parent club decide that the guy is not for sale. Not much you can do about that if you have a chosen target
Maybe the Koulibaly deal will go through but again we are being pushed close to 50m so is he really worth it..?
You mention Mangala and I have also mentioned Fonte and I could even consider Jonny Evans but the point is that there are decent CB’s in the EPL with experience (I would have taken Ashley Willians and he could have been a captain as well..?)
Benteke is a decent call IMO. He always scored against us when he was at Villa but never got much of a chance at Liverpopl. He would provide a decent option to Costa and would make Michy work to oust him and is a different type of player to what we have plus of course knows the EPL
Just think that sometimes we are blind to what is in front of us…? KTBFFH
August 10, 2016 at 8:19 am #1155261Seeing as though it looks like Costa is staying, and we have already signed Batshuayi, I’m really not sure we need another striker – and if we do, we need to go for someone from the top drawer.
Nothing wrong with Benteke, but I would rather we gave Traore a decent chance.
August 10, 2016 at 8:57 am #1155333BL,I agree strengthening defensively should be the priority.

August 10, 2016 at 9:01 am #1155351the dutch guy at Southampton Van Dijk is better than all the others being mentioned currently in the EPL, would rather we went for him
August 10, 2016 at 9:06 am #1155363I agree Van Dijk is OK,but NOT Chelsea material I think.
Will probably be on Koeman’s list to replace Stones @ Everton.August 10, 2016 at 9:50 am #1155444How is that, when we are mentioning Mangala, who has been let go by Man City.
Kone currently at Sunderland, and a few others.
I mentioned him purely as we look to be struggling getting who we really want.Just hope the club know what they are doing, all the main players are tying up their targets, and we are been left floundering again.
Pound to a penny Conte never agreed or thought he would be going into the new season with the back four we currently are left with.August 10, 2016 at 10:20 am #1155516Kone johnny evans williams mangala are all not good enough. If we want to win tbe leauge and get back into high cl places we need absolute quality.
Van dijk is a good call as we have no out and out lb.
We have to go all out and get koulibaly. Him and zouma
August 10, 2016 at 10:46 am #1155591I agree, phwepsi. None of those players mentioned are a real improvement on what we already have, we would just be adding numbers.
If Juventus really want Matic that bad then we should really test their resolve and go all out for Bonnuci. Tell them they can forget Matic otherwise. Maybe we should be the ones playing hardball for once.
August 10, 2016 at 12:20 pm #1155831I disagree that none of them are better than what we have but also agree not totally convinced they are Chelsea quality. Good call on the guy at Soton (I think he was at Celtic before) but surely Williams is the cover for Stones so do not see Everton going back for him
No idea how much he would cost but worth a punt. KTBFFH
August 10, 2016 at 2:01 pm #1156065Koulibaly’s future to be sorted out within the next few days according to his Agent Bruno Satin.
Will he stay or will he come??
August 10, 2016 at 2:23 pm #1156128I don’t think Napoli are willing to lose 1 more player. They don’t need money, they have 75 m from the sale of Higuain.
August 10, 2016 at 2:30 pm #1156140Wigan allegedly offer £3m for Patrick Bamford?
August 10, 2016 at 3:02 pm #1156215Bamford has to be worth a little more than that, surely? I know he hasn’t reached the heights expected, but he is a young and English. That alone seems to make you worth at least £5m!

So what now? If we want what we need which is a world class centre back. Its time to just accepct it and pay up for one
The matic bonucci thing will never happen. Our club isnt known for smart desicions and will probably accept that usless zaza. Who will just flop completely
Bit of a mess at the minute all round with alot of players leaving + loans and nothing coming in
August 10, 2016 at 3:58 pm #1156359its impossible – there are no great defenders around except for Bonucci and a couple of others-starting the season with Ivanoich, Terry and Cahill is suicidal, yes they were great players but almost totally burned out now. Conte or the club or whoever it is probably thought it would be no problem to sign on a couple of top quality defenders and now its too late or is it not.
August 10, 2016 at 4:08 pm #1156392Its not to late but its gunan cost a fortune so the club and fans mayswel just accept it
