Yes I knows it’s early but this Summer could be a defining transfer window for the club with a DOF likely to be appointed and maybe a new Manager as well as possibly Hazard and Courtois leaving.
The line below from today’s Daily Express might cheer everyone up if it were proved to be true.
And Diario Gol claim Asensio and Isco have had enough and are ready to join Alvaro Morata in London if Zidane is still Madrid boss for next season.
February 10, 2018 at 6:20 pm #1597389The worry is that the club have no direction this time. i was today looking at the Arsenal squad and ours. and if you minus Hazard and Courtois they are far superior to us. imagine they have Lacazzete on the bench and we have been playing false 9 for almost 5 games? and we are far inferior to Spurs front four. and they didn’t splash the cash. its very concerning that we are looking inexperienced former player as our DF when as you say the summer is the single most important summer in our recent history. we never learn from our mistakes, every time we think we may have turned the corner we make the same mistake in the same stage. we always rush to appoint someone we believe can do some job and up-ease Roman. this time we are in danger of losing our way completely. we need to smell the rat before its too late. Isco and Asensio are not a solution to our problem. what we need is Icardi like striker who can guarantee us 20-30 goals per season. we had one but Conte forced him out. we need to find another one.
February 10, 2018 at 6:42 pm #1597411Exactly why we need a a DOF asap imo Wise fan.
February 10, 2018 at 8:21 pm #1597440Maybe Roman is losing that loving feeling. When was the last time he was at Stamford Bridge on match day. I can’t remember to be honest.
February 10, 2018 at 11:29 pm #1597462Chelsea67…my thoughts exactly. Refers back to the other thread I started, asking whether RA should consider selling up. I’m very surprised the press haven’t started rumours of that nature…considering they’ve churned out far more ludicrous stories previously.
Agree that it’s a defining summer of transfer activity for us…players, managers, directors…and who knows, possibly a new owner 😀😉
February 11, 2018 at 12:01 pm #1597565What has Roman attending matches got to do with our transfers. as you know both City and PSG have owners and i haven’t seen Sheikh attend a game for a long time. yet they splash the cash. we can’t hide behind a tree and throw a stone. our problem is poor management from top to bottom. for instance we didn’t had a DF since November last year. and we are appointing a new CEO for the first in four years. all of those roles are played by a lady called Marina. who is ruining our club’s transfers. she is even refusing to listen the coach. instead she thinks she is smarter than him. we need to solve that problem first and foremost. she seems this tendency to not back coaches that win the league.
Secondly we need to appoint an experienced DF. for instance i would like the ROMA DF. he seems to get players on the bargain. and he is one of the reason why Roma keeps on replacing stars they sell every summer. if we are getting Luis Enrique, i would say thanks ! better Conte than him. my beef with Conte is that he is reluctant to play football. all he sets up is to counter attack even relegation teams. that has to end.
Finally get a top class striker, i don’t care how much we pay as long as he is quality i’m fine. teams have Kane, Aguero. and if we want to compete with them. Morata and Giroud isn’t our answer. we need to realise to the standard of the market. we can’t get a top class striker for £30m anymore. so what happens is that we either pay what others are paying and stay competitive. or we need to find our next Harry Kane from our youth system. which i doubt will ever happen.
February 11, 2018 at 1:12 pm #1597596Have to disagree wf
Roman hasnt been to one game this season. Like the whole season. Hes always came to games every year. Think its quite telling that he hasnt. Maybe its just the shitty football we are playing thats keeping him away
February 11, 2018 at 1:27 pm #1597602We all know that in reality Chelsea is an autocracy which means between now and the start of next season Roman is going to have to step in and make a number of very important and difficult decisions.
Including to appoint or not appoint a Director of Football and if the decision is to appoint a DOF which it probably will be then he has to appoint the right one , whether to sack or retain Conte and if Conte is sacked or leaves by mutual consent assuming he lasts until the end of the season in the Summer a new Manager has to be appointed and again it has to be the right one and ideally one who won’t come under pressure after 18 months, a clear and coherent transfer policy needs to be established with a DOF and a Manager working in tandem whether that Manager be Conte or A.N. Other.
Can we successfully retain Hazard? Is probably the most important decision in respect of the current playing staff, to have any chance of convincing Hazard to stay the club must be settled and have a clear direction with all of the Manager, DOF, Owner/Board happily working in tandem with each other, then we need to sign the right players who may help convince Hazard to stay.
Even then I’m not sure Hazard hasn’t already decided he wants to go to Real which if he does means decisions need to be made as to how we replace him perhaps not directly and we will have to think carefully how we spend the circa £150/£200m we will likely get for him and whether we want to take players like Isco/Asensio from Real as part of any deal.
Rightly or wrongly the club complies 100% to FFP so whilst we might be able to spend circa £50m of our own money in the Summer the rest of our transfer budget will have to be made up from funds raised from the players that we sell.
Lastly the club have to decide who they retain and who they sell and whether a significant churn of players is good or bad for the club.
The next few months leading up to the start of the new season will define Chelsea’s future in the short to medium term City squad wise are now way out in front of us and may be uncatchable over the next few seasons in the PL especially if they continue to spend as heavily as they have although FFP 2 with club’s limited to transfer spending of 100m Euros net might change the landscape were it to be introduced.
Whatever happens with FFP 2 though as a bare minimum Chelsea need to retain a CL place which might well require reclaiming following this season especially with a new Super Stadium on the horizon.
Some difficult stormy waters to be steered through over the next 6 months but not impossible for the club to cope with if Roman singularly and collectively makes the right decisions.
There’s much conjecture about Roman not being seen at the home games recently but as Wise Fan says do other owners attend games? The likes of Sheikh Mansour the Glazer’s, Joe Lewis, John Henry or Stan Kroenke are not seen regularly at their clubs home games in fact Sheikh Mansour I think has only ever attended one City game.
Abramovich has considerable world wide business interests , has to be politically on side in Russia, has some involvement in the Russia World Cup and is just going through a divorce albeit seemingly an amicable one and my understanding is that Roman still watches every Chelsea game no matter where he is in the world and if he’s lost his interest in the club would he be driving the new Stadium as hard as he is? I’m not sure he would.
February 12, 2018 at 7:49 am #1597953February 12, 2018 at 7:59 am #1597955I can’t believe that Icardi has £97.5m release clause and we are looking for the likes of Giroud and Crouch?

February 12, 2018 at 1:36 pm #1598196If I remember correctly, Roman was heavily involved in the Russian WC bid and I believe was going to be involved to ensure that it was a success
We do know that he stepped in when Emenalo left the Club so he is keeping tabs on things but more at arms length but if it is because of the WC preparations then I think that to a degree that makes some sense…?
I think most seasons we feel are defining ones and yet we continue to remain in a top position and compete at every level. There will be a lot of managerial changes this Summer, there always are after a WC and some countries to meet expectations. I also see/expect some managerial changes as well but possibly not as much as many would envisage (certainly in England where everyone in the top 6 is settled apart from Chelsea..?)
As always time will tell but for now I prefer to focus on the immediate future and hope that between the board, the manager and the players we get these problems resolved and get back to winning ways. KTBFFH
February 12, 2018 at 9:57 pm #1598438I think we should try to buy Wilfried Zaha. Probably to replace one of Willian or Pedro, who have never been consistent. Of course our main priority would be to keep both Hazard and Courtois.
February 13, 2018 at 8:16 am #1598496Personally, I think Zaha is very hit and miss and I am not convinced he would be an addition to our team. Yes he has pace but when I see him at Palace I think he is a selfish player who feels that the team evolves around him and far from convinced that he would make the transition to a much bigger team with better players
Would not sell Willian as for me, he still delivers
Do agree that Pedro has had a poor season and although he does run around like a headless chicken or a terrier, there is very little end product these days (though he could still be a decent squad player for us). KTBFFH
February 13, 2018 at 8:32 am #1598507Hopefully we can keep Hazard but if we don’t make that top 4 which is looking increasingly more difficult it will be hard. Not concerned if Courtious leaves concedes too many goals. I think Pedro and Luiz are sure to leave plus a few more.
February 13, 2018 at 2:40 pm #1598706I cannot say to finish in the top 4 is a must. Take example of Arsenal, where they were still be able to keep Sanchez (at least for awhile at that time), Ozil and even to buy Aubameyang just last month.
It’s great not to miss the Champions League, but we did that once and we still kept our stars. I just hope that Hazard really loves Chelsea as he responded never when being asked by a fan if he intended to leave Chelsea. If we lose Hazard, I don’t know how we’ll replace him. It’s already tough to buy even not so world class players like Belotti or Lukaku for example. And I certainly can’t see players of Hazard’s calibre (Bale, Neymar …) coming to Chelsea.
Courtois on the contrary has always stated that he would like to return to Madrid one day as he has his kids there. It will be difficult but moreover expensive to replace him. But there are good candidates like Donnaruma, Oblak, Arreola, etc. But again, I would prefer him to stay for more 3-4 more years as I rate him as one of the best GKs in the world (probably de Gea is the best now but Courtois not far) and he proves to be important for the team by saving us points.
CFC1905: Zaha is a hit and miss at Palace, but if combined with Hazard, I can see they’re being lethal. He is THE star at Palace but he won’t be the only one anymore should he join a big team. The technique is there, the speed is there, again what’s lacking is consistency. Probably by pairing him with world class players, he can become world class too.
February 13, 2018 at 2:45 pm #1598708Aindro nah mate if we miss out on top 4 either hazard or coutious will be off. Most likely hazard. Cant see roman letting both them go as that would be a massive hole. Even top 4 might not be able to keep hazard
February 13, 2018 at 2:47 pm #1598709Touch and go whether Hazard goes imo whether we achieve CL football or not but no CL football next season won’t help to make him stay. Also Real were his dream club to play for and at 27 time is running out for him.
CL football next season, a new big fat extended contract, managerial stability at both team and DOF level and a couple of exciting first team starter signings might help persuade him. Big asks though.
February 13, 2018 at 2:50 pm #1598711Lol 9 of the 4 things mentioned we currently havent got any of them
February 13, 2018 at 2:51 pm #1598712Lol 9 of the 5 things mentioned we currently havent got any of them. We still havent offered him one which is mindblowing. Transfers will be awful as ever. Conte wont be here and cl football is unlikely
