far far too much for a player we once owned, rather go for Dybala or Belotti – they score against all kinds of opposition – big teams or small teams
February 9, 2017 at 3:47 pm #1432586The next time Lukaku moves it will be in the last year of his contract because no one is going to pay that Everton’s ransom

Pick out your top 3
My top 3 would be:
CB to replace Azpilicueta (i really really like Azpilicueta, great defender but we have been caught out a few times with crosses. I’d move Azpi to the WB role and have healthy competition with Moses.
Transfer target: Van Djik
CM to replace Matic (this is the most important area for us as currently between Kante and Matic, there aren’t many forward (creative) passes being made).
Transfer target: Veratti
CF to fight with Costa for that number 9 position (it’s very rare you have 2 quality strikers in your squad that will be happy for a few seasons so we shall see what Conte has planned)
transfer target: Icardi
February 13, 2017 at 12:31 pm #1434644one thing for sure we will need a couple of good buys for Conte to take us to the next level as the prospects of facing more difficult opposition next season in the CL.
February 13, 2017 at 1:46 pm #1434680notnice – agreed. No place for sentiment and some of those who have done well this season as part of the overall unit sadly are lacking and simply are not CL standard. Not to say they cannot remain as decent squad players but would not be first choice for the big games. KTBFFH
February 13, 2017 at 3:42 pm #1434760We need a goalscoring centre midfielder. Possibly 2 strikers if costa leaves. A centre back and a wingback who preferably can play on either side
February 13, 2017 at 3:43 pm #1434761Icardi would be great but morata looks more likely
February 13, 2017 at 5:00 pm #1434810Wouldn’t mind Morata
February 14, 2017 at 8:46 pm #1435382Watching PSG Barca
Two things
Veratti, watched him a quite few times now and he is some player, would luv to see him at chelsea next season
No doubt we will qualify for the CL next season, but watching these two teams, we will seriously need some better quality to compete beyond the group stages.February 14, 2017 at 9:05 pm #1435388pylon, I agree with you on both counts.
February 15, 2017 at 7:08 am #1435479Even if we do win it this season and I expect it to be very close as we drop points along thew way as will other teams hopefully, we will have to strengthen all round, we need more height in those 3 centre back roles, another wingback with the ability to cross decently and backtrack, another top quality attacking midfielder someone better that Pedro or Willian, another striker as Costa cannot expect to play in every game unless Batshuayi ramps up his goal scoring but then he needs game time as well, hopefully Courtious will stay otherwise there also we will need a top quality keeper and finally the position that actually is key as this is where the game is controlled, someone to command the area along side Kante. Not saying all these need to be bought as we have several young players who can challenge, I hear van Ginkel is creating a massive impression in Holland, thats just one but obviously there will have to be proven top purchases as well.
February 15, 2017 at 8:41 am #1435519notnice – I think more fans are now appreciating that although our squad is good for this season if we expect to retain the EPL next year (is that premature..?) and also challenge for the CL then improvements have to be made. This is where my historical comments about playing Zouma and moving Dave have been coming from
If the reports are true then Costa will be signing a new 5 year contract but that would still mean cover is required and so far Michy has not proved he can do the job (IMO). Abrahams and Solanke could only be considered as 3rd choice (personally at least one of them should go on loan anyway) so we do need Michy to step up or we have to buy
MvG was playing really well at PSV, got himself injured and has now returned and continued where he left off. He appears to be instrumental in all their games and scores freely as well. My guess is we wanted confirmation regarding his fitness as he has suffered many injuries for such a young player but I feel certain he is one that Conte will look at and I would not be surprised if he replaced RLC in the squad for example
Changes will need to be made and players will move on but with the likes of Zouma, Christensen and MvG (to name but a few) to come back we can still bolster the squad without having to buy a multitude of new players (IMO). KTBFFH
February 15, 2017 at 9:17 am #1435550I don’t know how we haven’t went for Draxler yet kept faith with wide men who are below him quality wise. having watched him destroy Jordi Alba last night i couldn’t imagine who how we haven’t went for him. it was regrettable decision whoever made. last summer was reported that we were considering going for Di Maria. and there skeptics about his signature and his adaptability to this league. last night he has demonstrated what we have been missing for a longtime. a left footed player with pace and technique and with good set piece skills.
February 15, 2017 at 9:30 am #1435555Nothing wrong with Pedro/Willian. I think that it’s actually Costa that breaks down attacking moves.
Stil think Van Djik, Veratti and Icardi would be great signings to fight for CL spots as well as some players coming back from their loan spells
February 15, 2017 at 9:40 am #1435573Amz Pedro and Willian are obviously very good players but if we are to challenge on all fronts we will need more quality in attack and yes I do agree Costa also needs to do the business in every game as he has just signed a new contract making him our highest earning player.
February 15, 2017 at 9:44 am #1435576I know the thought of signing new players is exciting for supporters, but I think we need to calm down here a bit. We are eight points clear of second in the PL with 13 games to go. That suggests to me the current squad is not entirely without merit and I would say on this season’s form, six of our starting 11 would walk into any side in the world – outside of the two Spanish giants, what other sides could say that? Of course, we can always improve and to compete in the CL next season we will have to with two or three players, in terms of both quality and depth of squad, but really guys, I don’t think the wholesale changes some are suggesting are anywhere near necessary.
February 15, 2017 at 10:32 am #1435605I’m not suggesting wholesale changes. 3 quality additions are needed to fight on all fronts
Van Djik is reletively decent in the air and can play out from the back very well. This in turn gives moses competition with Azpi for the right wing back role.
Veratti to replace Matic (more squad depth in CM)
Icardi to share burden with Costa
February 15, 2017 at 11:15 am #1435632AMZ – who do you expect Van Djik to replace bearing in mind we do have Zouma and chrsitensen on our books and in the wings..?
February 15, 2017 at 11:17 am #1435636I would argue that many teams over many years looked at Drexler and none decided it was worth the gamble. One decent game against a very poor Barca does not mean the decision was correct
Same with DiMaria. He has hardly set the world alight since he moved to PSG and he went through a phase where his own fans wanted him out. Last night he showed what he is capable of but we also saw glimpses of that at ManU…? KTBFFH
