thought Rudiger was very good last night against a Chilean team that virtually dominated the game.
July 3, 2017 at 10:15 am #1500641notnice… I reckon would be a very very good signing at the back. Effectively CFC, if he signs, will be paying 12 million for German international center back taking into the equation the Ake sale.. is he better than Ake, You’d have to suggest so, but a little further along in his development than Ake. 15 more games at international level and has that valuable experience and exposure to European football.
Also, given we were linked to him last summer, you have to say this is likely to be a Conte target. Will be happy to get him on board. Wiki is suggesting the player has had his medical and has already called him a chelsea player. (never trust wiki) but fingers crossed.
July 3, 2017 at 11:37 am #1500678notnice – I posted last week that I was not impressed but agree with you that last night he looked a much more accomplished player
Did not appreciate that we were linked with him last season and thought he was just another option as Bonucci and VanDijk were effectively ruled out but at least this would indicate we have seen him before and potentially a Conte choice which is always good. Seems as though City are going to try and muscle in on him but have already seen a mock up of Rudiger in the new Chelsea shirt so am assuming we are still in with a shout
When you consider some of the other players we are linked to (Sandro..?) this seems to have happened very quickly which surprises me as he was involved in the Confederations Cup. Hope it goes through smoothly to clam the doom and gloom merchants on here…!! KTBFFH
July 3, 2017 at 12:09 pm #1500704Rudiger has said he will make his desicion on his future later this week. He hasnt made up his mind yet. I dont think its as close to a done deal as people think
July 3, 2017 at 3:15 pm #1500800Just seen JT in the Villa strip sent a shiver down my spine, I don’t blame him but would of been nice to finish his career in blue
July 3, 2017 at 3:48 pm #1500815It had been some time since I last saw Rudiger when I read the somewhat dismissive judgements of those who had seen him in a Confederations Cup game earlier; the views seemed out of character from what I had seen in league games….so I watched the CC Final. The first thing to say is that what was predominantly a German ‘B’ team was swamped by Chile who would not have been flattered by a two goal margin win. That they didn’t achieve this was down to poor finishing, some excellent goal-keeping but, as much as anything, a staunch defence in which Rudiger played up to, at least my, expectations…one last ditch tackle being particularly memorable. As ever, you need more than one game to make judgement on a player, particularly if you intend buying him.
July 3, 2017 at 3:51 pm #1500820Let us not get carried away, while Rudiger looked dominant. i wish to remind you that Chile doesn’t had a tall and powerful out and out CF to cause trouble for him. but in the PL that will be different and he will face a lot of striker who can take him to the cleaners. so those who are hyping him need to cease until he joins and proves his worth in the PL.
Secondly today is 3rd July and so far Caballero is our only signing and there is a possibility that he may be our only. on the other hand one of our bright young players in Chalobah wants to leave in order to seek first team football elsewhere. yet we are begging Nainggolan to join us. this is terrible. a 21 year old player who was one of our very little success in the academy have no given up. and we want to replace him with a 29 yr old. much we wanted the 21 yr old defender replaced with 30 yr old defender. remember Chalobah costs us nothing, while Nainggolan is said to possibly cost us £40m. which could have invested elsewhere in the squad like strikers.
July 3, 2017 at 5:02 pm #1500838Amz, like you I would feel a lot more comfortable about everything if and when Conte puts pen to paper on his new contract I said a while back that signing Conte to a new long term contract would be our most important signing of the summer and I still believe that to be the case.
Hopefully it will get done when Conte gets back to Cobham from Italy if it doesn’t then we should all worry.
On new signings unfortunately its never done until you read its done on the club site although I do expect some new signings over the next week or so lets hope we get the important ones over the line soon but just to prove we cant believe too much of what we read in the press following the rumours of a few days ago that Chelsea were signing Lukaku against Conte’s wishes today the rumours are that Conte has ordered the club to sign Lukaku whatever the cost. 🙂
July 3, 2017 at 5:12 pm #1500840devchels, it was weird seeing JT holding up a Villa shirt wasn’t it.
I’m pleased though JT wont play against Chelsea at least this season. 🙂
Wish him well though hope he stays injury free and he takes Villa up.
July 3, 2017 at 6:07 pm #1500847Wise-fan: I agree that we should give opportunity to Chalobah. We are still assuming that Bakayoko will join us (no further news so far), but if we sell Matic, then Chalobah should not be sold IMO. Again let’s see as Matic posed in our new uniform, I don’t think Chelsea have any intention to sell him.
I found this transfer market frustrating and extremely slow, reminded a bit of summer 2 years ago where we ended up with Djilobodji and Michael Hector, but hope that things will accelerate a bit more this week. But other rivals haven’t done much neither. City signed 2 players, GK where they badly need it and a playmaker in Bernardo Silva, which they don’t need it too badly as they have good midfield core. Man Utd signed Lindelof. Liverpool signed ex our player Salah. But that’s it. No big signings so far from Arsenal nor Tottenham. While I expect City to be the main contender for next season as they have money to buy whomever they want, Tottenham cannot be underestimated as they have a solid English core players in Alli, Kane, Rose and Walker/Davies. They showed what they could do last season.
I do hope that we’ll have more British players. If we buy Rudiger (not as close as the papers say I believe as he still can choose City over us), and he is to replace Cahill: we’ll have no Englishmen in our starting 11. How sad as an English club.
July 3, 2017 at 6:12 pm #1500850Well knock me over with a feather, how very noble of Terry opting to sign for Villa on a one season long contract over staying in the EPL with Swansea because he couldn’t bear to face Chelsea!.Contrast that to Lamps who’s loyalty was to himself and was unperturbed about turning out for Man.City when his tenure ended with us!.
July 4, 2017 at 2:15 am #1500927Aindro is bang on. Good post mate.
July 4, 2017 at 3:37 am #1500929What happens if we draw Villa in one of the domestic cups. Hoping JT has a clause built in to the contract that he will be sidelined in such a situation. Watching him line up against us would be more unpalatable than when Lamps played us in my opinion. Surely it couldn’t happen. Pray that the Cup draw gods are on our side with that one 🙂
July 4, 2017 at 8:04 am #1500941Aindro – why do you assume that Rudiger would replace Cahill. My recollection from the end of the season was that Conte was stating that Cahill could easily become our next captain once JT left…? KTBFFH
July 4, 2017 at 8:12 am #1500943The most important signing which I, and others, have stated many time is Conte himself. As and when he commits then I see so many other issues falling into place
As for Chalobah I totally agree that he has done enough to warrant a place in the squad. Assuming we do get Bakoyoko then I see him and Kante as the main starters but with a back up duo of Chalboah and Fabregas that is not too shabby at all. Both of these have different qualities to their games so can bring different added value as and when they come on and if we want to rewst both of the “main” starters then they are more than capable of playing together and doing well (IMO). KTBFFH
July 4, 2017 at 8:13 am #1500944Personally it would not bother me in the slightest if we did draw Villa in a cup and in fact I think I would welcome it as it provides just another chance to show JT our appreciation of his loyal service to Chelsea and that he is far from forgotten. KTBFFH
July 4, 2017 at 8:46 am #15009591905 I agree mate, I actually think it would be pretty cool to face Villa in a cup game, especially at the Bridge. Terry would get one hell of a welcome, and his move doesn’t have the same sour taste as Franks did.
July 4, 2017 at 8:53 am #1500961This summer transfer window has been slow for all clubs.
Makes the lack of transfer activity by us a bit easier to accept.
July 4, 2017 at 9:14 am #1500972I really didnt want to look at the pictures of JT in villa’s colours yesterday… I hope that he can cope with the speed of the championship because there are some very pacy players in the division. I think it would have been easier to see him in the US or something but mark of the player he still wants competitive league football.
Best of luck to the leader and legend… still gutted that he and lamps had to retire…
July 4, 2017 at 9:15 am #1500973John Terry said this in his Astonvilla unveiling. “Monaco have a couple of youngsters and everybody is saying how good they are.Believe me, we have got better players at Chelsea.”
even JT feels we should give our young players a better chance rather than go after expensive oldies. but still there will be some who will disagree with JT. and i respect their opinion after all. but once the legend who has been there and done it is saying this. then i see no reason why the club should pursue the lines of Bonucci and Nainggolan. full stop there. -
