Blacky – Wazza’s win rate is actually amazing this season! Shame he hasn’t played more as we probably would have turned all those home draws into wins!!!
We don’t need a “big upgrade” to every single area of the team mate. We’re unbeaten in 22 games in the league, we just need a few more players to turn our dominance into goals and we’ll be flying next season.
Assuming everyone stays we’ve got DDG, Valencia, Bailly, Rojo and Shaw if he sorts his form out. Think that’s an acceptable back line?
Pogba, Herrera, Miki and Zlatan rotating with Rashford leaves 2 positions. Martial should have the left wing if he can get back to the form of last season. Which leaves us the No. 10 – where personally I’d love to see Griezman.
Unless tomorrow want to replace Pogba, Herrera, Miki and Zlatan then I’d say we’re looking at 2-3 players in the summer.

JM – So what do you want to do with Miki? Bin him off and find another winger and give him one season to be a world beater and if not then get rid of him too?

Not saying that happpy, just saying he hasn’t actually nailed a regular place down mate. We know Mourinho sometimes buys then changes his mind about players. Just don’t be surprised if Miki doesn’t last that long.

Watching Real v Bayern last night you can see that the general quality is lacking at Utd in terms of being at the elite level of European football. But how much does the quality in some players make the other players in the team play/look better? Does Alaba look good because he’s a good player or does he just look good because he’s surrounded by great players? Is Casimero a good player or does he just look good along side Kroos and Modric? Boateng looked poor at City yet he looks world class at Bayern.

@happy – Just in case you haven’t noticed it yet,we have a problem at LB because Jose doesn’t rate Blind or Shaw and Darmian is just a shit temporary alternative,a problem at CB because tweedle dee and tweedle dum are both totally inept, injury prone failures,a problem in midfield because other than Pogba and Herrera (just about) there is basically no-one else who is fit for purpose,a problem up front because even if Zlatan stays there is still only 19 yr old Rashford to rely on as your mate Waza is a goner,a problem on the wings because Martial is playing like he wants out,Mourinho is right on his case as a result and the only other ‘proper’ alternatives are Lingard and Young who are both shite.
That is every area of the team that has big deficiencies that need to be addressed for us to be more than just top four challengers again next season.Sure Griezman would make us better but what you are failing to grasp is that every single one of our main challengers are going to significantly strengthen their squads,so if we just sit around and do what you and @libanski suggest we will still be 15 points or more away from the top of the league come this time next year.Thats is the reality of it,simple as that.
As for your mate Rooney, how’s his goal ratio going mate?.Only two EPL goals all season and not one from open play since the opening game of the season.Fuck me,if David Bellion or Bebe had still been here they would have done better than that pathetic total.Good job you chickened out of another bet with me or you would have had your arse tanned yet again, haha!.

Blacky – Ha, fucking hell mate! Either the gin out here in Lanzagrotty is truly watered down or you have essentially just said we’re “good to go” on De Gea, Bailly, Valencia, Pogba, Herrera, Miki and Zlatan/Rashford! I’ll take that all day long from you! Are we really only 4 players away from being a top side again? Blimey!!
As for Rooney, well – he stopped making me money (and friends!!) a long time ago!!! ???

Haha not quite mate, just outlining what we need to get us realistically challenging for EPL titles, rather than just fighting for top 4 places again.
Mourinho will have to pull some real belters out of the bag before we can even dream of going any further.
Having said that,I am certainly not advocating that any of the players you mentioned above should be discarded because there are far more pressing matters than any of those guys to address first.

Watching Monaco tonight, I’d have at least 5 of them. Mendy at left back is a fucking monster. And in the other game I just love watching Dybala. How the fuck did we just watch when he went from Palermo to Juve?

@jm1502 – Let’s face it mate most of the forward players on view from both teams tonight would greatly enhance our squad.Mbappe is a freak,Lemar was excellent tonight,Dembele is just brilliant,Pulisic is going to be top class.Bakayoko also impressed me tonight and Mendy is a beast going forward, but looks a bit clumsy when going the other way and got absolutely destroyed by Dembele for Dortmund’s goal.
Either way, when you watch the way both Monaco and Dortmund attack, the speed of their play and they way they interchange positions it only highlights just how far behind we have fallen.

Providing De Gea doesn’t go we need a CB,LB, CM and ST (Griezmann).

We would have De Gea, Valencia, Bailly, CB, LB, Pogba, Mhkitarian, CM, Martial,Griezmann and Rashford.

I cannot see us getting rid of them all in one window but with the right signings we could mount a challenge. If Shaw could pull his finger out we could add another midfielder instead.

But how much does the quality in some players make the other players in the team play/look better?

@manthistle – Ha ha ha. We’ve heard this old chesnut from you many a time in praise of Carrick.

You would have us believe in the days Carrick played alongside the likes of Rio, Vidic, Giggs, Scholes, Ronnie etc. it was only because of Carrick’s presence in the team that they played/looked so good.

Lets be clear. Quality is quality and mediocrity is mediocrity. Its as clear as day and night. A great player in a great side will be more likely to be on the winning side and amass medals. The team will have more of the ball, but he will get less of the ball but be marked less. In a mediocre side, he will be the focus, get passed the ball every opportunity, be man marked and lose games because its all on him. True a great player performs better in a great team, and a great team makes it easier for a mediocre player to hide.

In Carricks case, when playing in a great team he seemed decent. As those great players left and he found himself in a mediocre team, what happened. Your statement was shown to be true. He didn’t look so good then. As the focus and responsibility fell more on him, he didn’t play/look anywhere near as good.

happy-That is a very good thing mate, not rushing into making a stupid £30m bid for Sissoko, getting the player, and ending up with a lemon!.That is why clubs have people watching players for very long time before putting an offer on the table.Having said that,i still think we should bid for J.Clasie and F.Torres.

jm1502 – Mendy is a good player but he was skinned by Dembele for the Dortmund goal. I’d have to see more of him to be convince but going forward he is fantastic.
