No, we’re not getting Cilla Black for a half time singalong! First surprise was the team. No Rondon or Chadli BUT two wingers in McLean and Phillips. With the new double act of Tony (1-0) Pulis and Gary (1-0) Megson I was expecting a dour defensive display but we actually saw some football in the first half. Instead of the usual welly up to Rondon balls were (mostly) played along the ground to Rodriguez who was playing on the shoulder of the last man. 1-0 at half time and it should have been more. Foster was a spectator for most of the game unlike Begovic who earned his wages! Livermore was not my favourite player last season but he seemed to be playing a more advanced role today. It’s only the first game of the season so I’m not going to get too excited as we still need a creative midfielder. Let’s also hope that either Evans or McA get fit cause I think that we may be losing Dawson for a few games for his silly stamp on Ake which the ref missed.

The SKY highlights (Yes I signed up again like a mug) were encouraging. We created a few chances which is good, but I still dont like us with 3 defensive midfielders. We really need someone playing behind the lone striker. It appears that Chadli’s days are numbered. Not many players come back after falling out with TP. I know that TP said it was sorted amicably at the time, but I think TP was p*ssed off with Chadli for not going to Austria. If we can get £25m I think its very good business – As long as we sign a creative replacement!!! Time is slowly running out for us, and as the deadline gets closer, clubs are going to know we are desperate, so will hold out for top dollar. Last weeks comments about getting 5 players in is looking a little far fetched at the moment. Megson hinted that deals were close, but as yet no new additions. The bargain sales are just around the corner!!

The crumbs! That’s what TP calls ’em. As my dear brother who was at Saturday’s match says, (and I intimated in my last post) the Neymar transfer has triggered a domino effect, and the only thing holding this up is the Coutinho business. He leaves Liverpool, they sign Sigurdson, then Swansea sign Chadli and we sign Barry and hopefully a couple more younger players.

As for the Bournemouth game, my report suggested that Rodriguez was busy and menacing in the first half, and it was a shame that TP moved him into a more defensive position in the second. Livermore was excellent…Phillips too…and Hegazi could be a real steal. That TP started Field and then brought on Harper suggests that they are his type of player….not Ward-like, but guys who give 100% all of the time.

The Burnley game is going to be interesting. They will be nervously confident, but will fearing a banana skin and this might suit us well.
