Should be a good game for us this weekend with the chance to confirm our lead and hopefully extend it further
Swansea have reacted well to the appointment of Clement and of course with his history he may feel he has some inside knowledge of how to play Chelsea and what to expect from us. All that being said he realistically knows that they should not get much from the game so I fully expect them to be as tight and compact at the back as possible and rely on set pieces or breaks to try and get a goal
We know what we have to do and I believe that Costa has 7 goals in 4 games against Swansea so hopefully that run will continue. I am reading, but to be confirmed officially, that Luiz will play although his knee is far from fully recovered
I think we have to play our strongest team (why wouldn’t we…?) and be patient and focussed. If we can do that then player for player we are a better team and should create chances to open them up. Just have to be wary of pushing to hard if the goals don’t come to not leave ourselves open at the back
Regardless, I can only see a Chelsea victory to put more pressure on our rivals. KTBFFH
February 24, 2017 at 9:29 am #1439695A very hard game but a win would have a major psychological boost given that the two Manchester Clubs and Arsenal all have there PL games postponed, and Liverpool have what now could be a particularly difficult trip to Leicester! Points on the board are preferable to games in hand!!!
February 24, 2017 at 11:17 am #1439763Swansea were a mess, but unfortunately they seem to be pretty good now by starting to win. We drew this season there, hopefully we’ll win this match at the Bridge.
Swansea would apply the same tactics as Burnley last time I guess. They have tall striker in Llorente and probably they’ll try to take advantage of Azpi’s lack of height.February 24, 2017 at 11:22 am #1439770Depends if Sigurdssen turns up… If he does, they’ll score… If Costa turns up.. they lose but Costa hasn’t been at the club since January really… So be good to see if he’s still in the blue zone…
February 24, 2017 at 11:59 am #1439785Good point regarding putting Llorente on Dave…?
We are also going to try and equal a Club record of 12 consecutive winds in all competitions at the Bridge
tough no doubt but we would be disappointed without a victory..>? KTBFFH
February 24, 2017 at 2:38 pm #1439883A must win game for Chelsea we must not give City or anyone else a sniff so 3 points are imperative.
February 24, 2017 at 3:10 pm #1439910Apparently we are not carrying any injuries. KTBFFH
February 25, 2017 at 3:39 pm #1440231Good to see Cescs positive response to the rumours concerning his ‘apparent departure’ Even better seeing him starting today and his response…putting us one up. That’s how you answer your critics and force a manager to start you more regularly. Let’s hope we can grab some more goals and move 3 points closer to the title.
February 25, 2017 at 3:52 pm #1440244Wtf Swansea in our penalty ONCE and scored
We were far to casual in that first half for all the ball we hadFebruary 25, 2017 at 5:11 pm #1440298Phew that was a relief
Got to say that is one of the most negative performances I can remember seeing at SB by an away team.February 25, 2017 at 6:06 pm #1440346It was not an easy match. Llorente was really able to take advantage of his height. Azpi lucky not to concede a penalty. Pedro lucky to score like that. Anyway happy with the win. Hard earned but well deserved.
We need to be careful as opponents already know how to counter our style.
February 25, 2017 at 6:10 pm #1440347Always thought we would win convincingly even after they equalised. Cesc was a monster and showed why Conte needs to now start him. We just looked so more dynamic with him pulling the strings. There’s far more fluidity in our play and the likes of Hazard, Pedro and Costa seem to thrive when Cesc turns it on. Another three points. Another step closer to the title.
February 26, 2017 at 2:33 pm #1440676Cesc yesterday was a cross between Andre Pirlo and Phil Mikelsen with a sand wedge in his hands.
I thought we played great in spurts elongating that is the task now.
Defensively we still look a tad vulnerable to the high ball and we were a mess for the Llorente goal with Moses marking him. Why????? But I’m sure Conte will have picked up on that.
The most important thing was the 3 points but we will have to defend better v West Ham especially in the air if Carroll plays. Good to see Diego back on the score sheet again too.
February 27, 2017 at 12:53 am #1441025Agreed, Carroll will pose a lot of difficulty to our defense. I am just wondering why Conte does not try to start Zouma or Terry against Swansea. We know that they rely on Llorente’s height. But above all: I just feel that opponents start to know how to play against Chelsea. Burnley was successful to get a draw and Swansea posed a lot of difficulty last time, even at the Bridge
February 27, 2017 at 8:43 am #1441071Solid enough game and created enough chances to have won by a country mile.Terrible defending for the Llorente goal and totally agree this is where we continue to look vulnerable (which I have mentioned many times now) and someone like Carroll will have a field day if he plays next week and we defend like that
Was not convinced by the penalty claim as Dave was so close, however, his arm was extended and you have seen them given…
Other than that thought we did well enough with all the attacking players looking good and creating havoc. It will be more difficult in other games but they were very negative and in the end you have to beat who is in front of you. Good 3 points for me and now time to focus on Wham. KTBFFH
February 27, 2017 at 10:33 am #1441151been trying to get into the forums for weeks-not sure if I will be able to get in again tomorrow or after as normally it sends me to word press which then bluntly tells you the sites are not accessible for whatever reason, getting back to the game once again the high ball or crosses have been our biggest weakness this season, every-time there is a free kick or corner I fear the worst, not sure what can be done about it, if you bring in more height then you sacrifice speed and skill. Still its 3 very vital points in the bag cause we have to beat the lower teams.
February 27, 2017 at 10:59 am #1441169thing is chaps, we are not going to keep clean sheets week in week out, and yes we may have a weekness, and teams will be coached to perhaps play on it, expected really
However if you consider how crap we were last season when we looked like conceding every game from various attacks on goal.
We are pretty solid this season and we need to just focus on that, and agree more height would not really make any difference, certainly didnt in the Wolves game.
And Saturday, a combination of thinking the whistle would blow hebace players swithing off was really the cause, not convinced Swansea would of gone that route, straght ball into the box if they also thought they had more time, was a bit of a punt really.February 27, 2017 at 12:28 pm #1441248ROA – I guess it depends on who you bring in doesn’t it? I am still of the opinion that if Zouma returns to the player he was when he kept Cahill out of the team then you have the pace, power and (some) skill which for a young player is a good combination
Obviously only time will tell on that one
My personal feeling was simply that the defence did not get themselves organised in time so no one marked or ran with Llorente…? KTBFFH
February 27, 2017 at 1:33 pm #1441318We didn’t look that defensively sound v Wolves but that was down to a completely new back 3 and Pedro playing left wing back.
I thought though we looked a bit better to the aerial assault v Wolves than we have.
I think it is something that Conte will be thinking about because of Carroll the problem is solving one problem if it did solve it might open up other problems.
But Conte could bring in JT or Zouma to help counter Carroll and move Azpi to wing back and he might also bring Matic back in neither are easy decisions to make though especially given how well Cesc played.
Conte though wont like the fact that Moses was left marking Llorente.
February 27, 2017 at 1:48 pm #14413339
Seem to recall Carroll giving JT a torrid time when he was at liverpool, in particular one cup final.
Still see this defence thing as a complete red herring, we have the best goal difference in the PL.
As stated before, JT & Zouma were the defence whe we were so shite last season, so really do not get this.
Forget Andy Carrol, on his day and if the delivery is right he will out jump any PL defender, thing is, he has more bad days than good, and selecting a team purely based around him playing is very unlikley, Conte will stick as is, and rightly so. -
